Rate of water removal & moisture content under constant drying condition
At moisture content greater than CMC, the rate at which water is lost will be constant under constant conditions (ก %$&ก) = constant rate period. After CMC, there is no longer a continuous water layer and water from the interior must diffuse to the surface before it can be removed. Therefore, the rate of water removal decrease (falling rate period) until the sample is completely dried.

Methods of reducing drying shrinkage
• Add the non-plastic raw materials
• Coarse particle
• Molding at high pressure so that the water films are reduced to a low order.

Drier conditions influencing on drying
• Air temperature
• Relative humidity
• Air velocity
• Angle of impingement of air flow
Whiteware V drying and firing 29
Types of Dryer• Tunnel dryer: products load on cars and pass slowly through the length of the tunnel. Heat is supplied by stream coils, air heater or waste heat from the kiln.
• Cross-circulation dryers: fans or jets• Humidity dryers: tunnel dryer are divided into sections with independent heat and humidity control. Ware can be heated up rapidly in a saturated atm to reduce the viscosity of water while the temperature is maintained, the humidity is reduced as the ware passes from one section to another. Fasting drying without cracking.
• Tableware dryers: temperature of molds must not exceed 70°C
