A Wearable LED Matrix Sign System Which Shows a Tweet of Twitter and Its

Application to Campus Guiding and Emergency Evacuation

1. Introduction

• Many signs on our campus. • Today, we have LED matrix signs

– Easy to manage them and keep them up to date

• If they are portable and they can be located any place any time, and if they could be controlled from a remote place by a manager,

• Signage can be more useful for special events such as conferences on a campus

• Emergencies on a campus are also special events.

• Public relations in an emergency is very important. Good public relations may save people’s lives which might not be saved if there were no public relations.

• And it is hard to predict the location and the time in an emergency, so an LED matrix sign, which can be located any place any time, is also useful in an emergency.

• There are– a flexible color LED matrix[5], – an Arduino board[8], – a high-performance battery[10]– a smartphone, and we can acquire information at any

place and any time today using the smartphone. • We have developed the LED Matrix Sign System,

using the above and our previous work.

• This is– a mobile sign – it can be located any place any time,

if a person wears the sign and goes there at the time. • This can be controlled from

a remote place by a manager because its contents can be modified using Twitter.

• The manager also can know where is the LED matrix sign.– using the GPS function of the LED matrix sign – or calling the person who wears the sign.

• So the manager can update the message on the wearable LED matrix sign depending on the location of the sign.(Sorry, we can not show you the GPS function this time because we are in a building now).

3. POSSIBLE USAGES

• Signage for conferences– Temporarily → OK.– Place anywhere → OK.– Changes frequently → OK.– Easy to manage

• Signage for emergency evacuation– Can place any where, immediately -> OK.– Can move with a group of people -> OK.– Can modify immediately depend on the situation ->

OK.– The manager can know the situation, place of the

group -> OK.

5. Conclusion

• A wearable LED matrix sign system, can be controlled by Twitter.

• The usage of the system as a temporary campus signage and a public relations tool in an emergency.

• Other purposes– guiding students and staff to the appropriate places and

telling them what they should do without a loud voice, when a ceremony is held in a campus.
