posting information on an

educational blog, website, or

forum.

•Make sure that sources are

reliable before trusting their

information.

•Support your opinion with

undeniable evidence from your

reading and research.

•Present yourself as a young

professional.

•Be a trend-setter!

•Have an opinion that does

not simply repeat ideas

others have already said;

add your personal twist to

the discussion.

•Take academic risks!

•Study reliable information

that’s already available

and build upon it.

•Read the entire text.

•Study your notes.

•Learn from your peers.

•Keep an open mind.

•Pay special attention to the experts of the field.

(teachers, professional critics, scholars, etc.)

•Anticipate a question and prepare an answer.

•Remember that “pride comes before a fall.”

well I packed my suitcase if I

you have to say.

•You must post online work

on time, especially if others

must view and respond to it.

• Avoid insults, sarcasm, and

• When you disagree with an

opinion, make sure the

speaker feels enlightened

by your statement instead

of slapped by it.

• Your comments should pull

students together instead

of push students out the

door.

•Avoid typing in ALL CAPS.

•Avoid an overuse of

•Avoid excessive underlining or

bold-faced words when they may

be interpreted as a “slap.”

•EX: As I’ve stated for the tenth

time, you need to come after

school if you still need help.

•Avoid an informal use of symbols.

•EX: Why in the @!?#! would

you disagree?

• Be prepared.

• Finish your

assignments.

• Learn as much as

possible.

•Show your interest by asking genuine

questions.

•Prove to others that you are trying to learn

from them.

•Compliment others while building upon their

statements.

•Keep the conversation going. Do more than

just agree. Focus on the why and the how.

•Participate with enthusiasm and tact.
