Winning Awards: Aung San Suu Kyi has won numerous internationalawards for her humanitarian efforts of bringing peace to her homeland ofBurma. However, she has been unable to physically receive the vast ma-

jority of these awards due to the fact that she has been under house arrestsince 1988. One of the most notable awards is the Nobel Peace Prize, which she won in 1991. Because of her lack of communication with theoutside world, she was not told that she had won the high honor until theSLORC allowed her to listen to the radio in 1995. In addition to the NobelPeace Prize, Suu Kyi has also garnered several honorary degrees fromvarious universities and institutions around the world, as well as medals ofhonor and special commendations from many cities all over the world.
