Ontbloter
vasgetrek
DELIAH BRINKHUIS
Die langarmvandie gereghet nbeweer-
de ontbloter van die Strand bygekom.
Die 37-jarige man het Maandag in die
Strand-landdroshof op n aanklag van onse-
delike ontbloting verskyn.
Hy is Sondag in hegtenis geneemnadat hy
haar dogter ontbloot.
Die voorval het omstreeks 07:15 in die
Strand naby Dampark gebeur toe haar dog-
ter, n student, op pad Boland Kollege toe
was.
Volgensdiemahetdieman in n rooi, ouer
modelVolkswagenJettageryenhaardogter
Hierdie keer, s sy, was die man se broek
besluithetomdievolgendeoggendsaammet
sydogter te loopomdie ontbloter vas te trek.
Haarmanhet, soosbeplan,dieDonderdag-
oggend saammet sy dogter geloop, maar die
beweerde seksuele oortreder was toe nie
Volgens diemawas haar dogter verlig toe
in Palmstraat opgemerk.
Volgens diemeisiewas dieman reeds be-
Strand endie kollege gebel omhulle teendi
My man sou hom doodmaak as hy weer
Dis nou
seksuelemisdrywe (FCS) ondersoek.Mense
met inligting wat met die ondersoek kan
help, kan konstabel Jerome Mosia by
072 833 7735 bel.
skyn.
KLOKTORING GROET: Konstruksiewerkers staan Dinsdag hier by die NG StrandNoord se

Diehof is toe verdaag endie regshulp-

weer ingeroep en die saak is hervat.
Dieondersoekbeamptehetaandiehof

sy rug geboei kanwordvir syveiligheid
terwyl die foto geneemword. Scheepers

dit te doen, maar hulle wou nie. Hulle
het aangevoer dat hulle die beskuldigde
onder hul name by die tronkuitgeteken
het enverantwoordelik souwees indien
enigiets met hom gebeur.
Ondanks die landdros se vermanings
het hulle die hof verlaat. Scheepers het
daarnadiehofordonnansegevraomhul
Staatsaanklaer Clement Abrahams
het n ondersoekbeampte van die
Strand-polisie ontbied om die saak aan

sy verder ondersoek instel en die
gat in die muur onder die wasbak
in die kombuis ontdek.
Volgens die eienaar, Johan
Breunissen, is daar ook in Janua-
rie 2011 by die besigheid inge-
breek en sigarette ter waarde van
R80 000 gesteel. Breunissen s dat
die oortreders toe deur die gebou
se dak toegang verkry het.
N hierdie inbraak het hy vir
ekstra veiligheid, benewens die
bestaande alarmstelsel, ook die
sekuriteitraamwerk wat die in-
brekers aanvanklik probeer oop-
breek het, laat vassweis.
Breunissen is egterverstomoor
hoe die diewe in die onlangse
voorval nie die alarm laat afgaan
het nie. Volgens Breunissen ver-
moed die sekuriteitsmaatskappy
dat die inbrekers oor die vloer ge-
kruip het nadat hulle deur die
muur geklim het.
Hy sluk egter swaar aan di pil
aangesien die alarmstelsel vol-

Kloktoring van
NGkerkgesloop
ILLANA FRANTZ
Die kloktoring van die NG
KerkStrand-Noord inBrand-
straat het Dinsdag vir die
laaste keer gelui.
Planne om die bekende ba-
ken, wat in 1952 opgerig is, te
sloop het gister n werklikheid
geword.
Die besluit om die toring te
verwyder is die gevolg van n
sterk wind wat die boonste ge-
deelte van die toring in Februa-
rie vanjaar afgeruk het. Dit het
op die kerk se dak beland en
groot skade aangerig.
Die toring, wat sowat 32 m
hoog is en sowat 70 ton weeg, se
klok is Dinsdag vir 10 minute
aaneen gelui.
Volgens die kerk se skriba,
CominePienaar,wasdiebesluit
om van die toring ontslae te
raak, nie n maklike een nie.
N die skade in Februarie
het die kerkraad n ingenieur
geraadpleeg. Hy het bevind dat
om die toring te herstel nie fi-
nansieel sinvol sou wees nie.
Pienaarhetbygevoegdatdaar
mense is wat hartseer is om die
toring te verloor, maar dat die
veiligheidsrisiko wat daarmee
gepaardgaan, swaarderweegas
die sentimentele waarde.
Na verneem word sal die to-
ring in drie seksies afgebreek
word.
Pienaar het ges dat daar nog
nie besluit is wat met die klok
van die toring gaan gebeur nie,
maar daar is sprake dat dit op
die een of ander manier steeds
behoue sal bly.

DELIAH BRINKHUIS
A burglar who broke into the
Star Express courier company
in Gants Centre on Tuesday
made off with a computer.
According to owner Ettienne
Lezar this is the second break-in
his business had suffered in two
months. In May two computers
were stolen.
He could, however, on a previ-
ous occasion stop men who were
about to remove and steal batter-
ies fromthecompanys trucks that
were parked in front of the office.
In the most recent incident ac-
cesswasgainedbyremovingaside

On video footage that Lezar
showed DistrictMail, a flash light
is shone into the security camera
at about 01:45, followed by a slim
man, wearing white skinny jeans
and a light-grey hoody jacket,
climbing through a side window.
The burglar bars are placed on the
inside of the office floor from be-
hind the blinds. The intruder
moves straight to his right where
he takesa laptopbefore exiting the
building from where he had en-
tered.
Last week the DistrictMail also
reported on a break-in at another
Gants Centre business, Global
Screenprinters, where computer
equipment was also stolen.

Bevigilant ondustbinday
I would like to register a word of
caution to Helderberg residents
who put their wheelie bins out on
a dark winters morning before
setting off for work.
My husband opened our elec-
tronic gates and wheeled out the
dustbin at 07:10 on the prescribed
day, then went back to the garage
which is approximately three me-
tres away, to fetch the recycling
bag.
At that point he was attacked
and mugged, blindfolded, gagged,
thrown onto the floor, dragged in-
side and his hands and feet were
tied up by two assailants.
After 40minutes of selective pil-
fering, the thieves left by foot, let-
ting themselves out with the keys
to our home and the remote.
Remarkably my husband was
shaken but unhurt. Our security
response and the police arrived
within moments of being called,
followedshortlybya traumacoun-
sellor.
We were very impressed by eve-
ryones efficiency and compas-
sion, and a security guard was
posted outside until a locksmith
had changed the locks and remote
frequencies.
We are living in very challeng-
ing times and there is a great need
to be extra vigilant about our secu-
rity and safety.

Thanks to the staff at
BuildersWarehouse
Id like to send out a huge thank you to
the staff at Builders Warehouse who as-
sisted me when my boyfriend had a sei-
zure in their store.
They called the ambulance, helpedme
makehimcomfortable and evenwent as
far as ringing up the items inmy trolley
and loading them in my car.
I have never experienced such amaz-
ing service!
Id also like to thank a fellow shopper
who stayed with me, watched my bag
andevenoffered todrivemeto thehospi-
tal. I didnt manage to get her name but
I hope she reads this.
Its really nice to know that there are
still such special people in Somerset

dangers
Crime in theHelderberghas escalat-
ed to such an extent that residents
taking their wheelie bins out when
darknowfacethereal threatofbeing
attacked (see letter Be vigilant on
dustbin day on this page).
Despite more and more people
building higher walls with electric
fencing on top of them, installing se-
curity gates, cameras and alarms as
well as employing security compa-
nies, thecriminals still seemtopros-
per.
Whatmoremustwedotokeepour-
selves and families safe and out of
harms way?
TheSouthAfricanPoliceServices
and the numerous security compa-
nies operating within the Helder-
berg do their best to stem the flow
of crime, but they dont seem to be
coping.
The SAPS have asked residents to
help them fight crime by beingmore
vigilant, to join neighbourhood
watches and to report suspicious-
looking people hanging around in
their neighbourhoods.
These may seem like simplistic
steps to follow, but the SAPS have
assured residents these measures
will help them to catch criminals.
So be alert and double check your
surroundings before you step out-
side.
ABOUT THE CARTOON: The cellphone impoundment bylaw was initiated in the Helderberg on 1
July. Motorists caught using their cellphones while driving will receive a fine of R500 and their cell
phone will be confiscated. An additional R1 000 will have to be paid to retrieve you cellphone.

Graag wil ek as permithouer om

maak teen u koerant se eensydige
berig op bladsy drie (DistriksPos,
11 Julie).
Onsword as die groot sondebok-

in die see sal wees nie.
Die idee wat deur die berig ge-
skepword, isdatons nklompskol-
gereik as sosiale ekonomiese be-
magtiging. N sy dood het my ma
aan my oorgedra.

die see gesit.
In die berig word geen melding
gemaakvanhoedie StadKaapstad
die natuur, veral die seelewe langs
die Valsbaai-kus, verkrag nie.
Gedurende 2012 en vroeg in 2013
was daar verskeie rioolstortings
in die Strand waar miljoene liter
rouriool indieSoetwaterrivierge-
loop het en by Greenways in die
see gestort het.
Ook het daar riool in die storm-
waterstelsel by Onverwachtstraat
beland wat ook in die see beland
het.
Die riviermond by Macassar
word as die broeiplek van die wit
steenbras bestempel omdat die vis
opdie garnalevoed.Maardit isnie
meer so nie, want daar is niemeer
garnale te vind nie. Dit as gevolg
see uit.
Die berig praat ook nie van hen-
gelaarswatmet hulle 4x4-voertuie
die kus te Macassar asook die dui-
ne stukkend ry nie.
Ek hoop ons kant van die saak
sal dieselfde dekking geniet as die
van die hengelaars.

Dankie vir u brief mnr. Jacobs.
braswat indienetgevang is, nbedreigde

OnMonday 15 July I had an emer-
gency operation at MediClinic
Vergelegen and I can only heap
praise on the exceptional treat-
ment I received from admissions,
the nursing staff inWardG and es-
pecially Dr Keet.
Six years ago I had three opera-
tions close together which left me
traumatised. The doctors and staff
were sympathetic to my last expe-
riencemincredible in their under-
standing and in quellingmy fears.
Just before the operation I told
the surgeon, Dr Beyers and anaes-
thetist, Dr Keet that I had every
confidence in them, but as the fol-
lowing day was my birthday and
the next morning I expected them
inmyroomtosinghappybirthday.
The next day they were there
with good news that all had gone
well.Unfortunately they said their
talents lay elsewhere, not in sing-
ing but they had come to wish me
well on my birthday.
The ward staff then came in to
give me a slice of lemon meringue
pie with a candle to celebrate my
birthday.Sixyears later Imust say
the food has improved and it was
a pleasure at every meal to enjoy
the fare that helped me recover.
To Dr Beyers and Dr Keet plus
sister Jones and her staff in Ward

One evening I watched the sadly familiar

into the path of the strolling public.
The owner, being singled out by the trium-

Dierevergiftiger, neemgerusvan joueiemedisyne
Mia.
erge hart kloppings begin kry, verward
raakenstelselmatigbeginverlamraak.
dier nie in die geval my kat Mia.
Nou wil ek by u weet, skinder diere van
n mens? Beswadder hul n mens? Steel hul-
le, pleeg hulle bedrog?
Alhierdiegedrag isdeelvandiemensdom
Indien n dier so nwrewel in jou binneste
wakker maak dat jy hom moet vergiftig,
gaan sien die eienaar en tree soos n be-
skaafde, welopgevoede mens op!
Wanneer n kat of hond u eiendom betree
en n brief in jou tuin los, vra die eienaar
omdit te komskoonmaak. Spuit die dier nat
met n tuinslang. Kry Citronella-olie, ver-
loos!
Meneer of Mevrou, ek vertrou julle sal n
rustige nagrus h aangesien julle in jul doel

Please sort outwaterproblem inGordonsBay
Firstly, Iwould like to thankJohanMiddleton
for helping to sort out the walkway problem
in Gordons Bay - 10 out of 10, and the thanks
of all who use the walkway along the beach
front.
One oversight - the steps across the water-
fall drain is not wheelchair-friendly, but I
suppose we should be grateful.
Again we have a problem, but this time a
health risk to all Gordons Bay residents.
For the last month or two, from the start of
the rainy season, the water quality has gone
from bad to atrocious and is totally undrink-
able thats if you dont mind drinking water
that tastes like Bexadust or heavy chlorine
(which I am sure is just to cover the Bexadust
smell and taste).
I sayBexadust, because it is thesmell Iknow
fromdustingroses this couldbeanother type
of chemical that is used on apple trees or the
like.
Even showering or bathing in this water is
probably a danger, especially to the aged and
the young.
A lot of people are getting sick with diar-
rhoea, intestinal worms, unusually very bad
headaches and the only difference to the peo-
ples day to day lives and diets is the water
quality.
This could land up getting far worse. As to
our knowledge, no one has yet died, but then
we dont really know, do we?
My call to the powers that be is this: please
get this problemsortedout asquicklyaspossi-
ble. No other area has been affected as badly
as ours (again not that we are aware of) and
it seems to me that there is a lack of control
at the water works and they seem unable (or
unwilling) to sort the problem out.
Please let us not get as bad as Gauteng or
theLimpopoProvinceas farasbadwaterqual-
ity is concerned. We really dont need this to
add to our problems.
I amapensioner and I amspending approxi-
mately R10 to R15 a day for clean drinkingwa-
ter from Spar (they are smiling though).
The government does not payme enough to
buy water to drink which I should be getting
from my tap. This is not right. I am not the
only one moaning, believe me.

Ratels: Velskoen, of te wel Fanie
Ferreira, is op pad na Ratels, n
somerskool op n wildsplaas in die
Laeveld. Dis waar n groep jong
mense uit alle lae van die samele
wing bymekaarkom om meer oor
hulself, die lewe en die natuur te
leer.
Maar as hulle gedink het dit gaan
n lekker kuierpaartie wees, maak
hulle n groot fout. Want sommer
gou kry hulle te doen met gewe
tenlose wildstropers en word hul le
wens en die bestaan van die skool
bedreig.
hond Vlooi. Hy was nog nooit so
lank op sy eie nie. En sal die vlot
hou?

Hubertas Journey: After the nights
grazing, Nosibanzi led his herd
back into the river. The water felt
strange. Choppy waves were ris
ing, slapping against their bellies,
the sand was shifting under their
feet. Suddenly Nosibanzi saw a
wall of water seething towards
them. His bellow of warning was
drowned as a dark tide lifted them
all and swept them out through the
river mouth into the sea.
Less Than Zero: Filled with relent
less drinking in seamy bars and
glamourous nightclubs, wild, drug
fuelled parties and dispassionate
sexual encounters, Less Than Zero
narrated by Clay, an eighteen
yearold student returning home to
Los Angeles for Christmas is a
fierce coming of age story, justifia
bly celebrated for its unflinching
depiction of hedonistic youth, its
brutal portrayal of the inexorable
consequences of such moral de
pravity and its authors refusal to
chastise such behaviour.
Hartepad: Watter soort pad is dan
nou n hartepad? Is dit bloot n
pad van die hart? Of het dit wel
met n ware hardepad te doen? Dit
is n mengsel van albei, want reis
is blootstellend. Jy ervaar die on
gerief, maar as jy terugkom, ont
hou jy net die uniekheid, die mooi
heid, die betekenisvolheid van dit
waaraan jy blootgestel was. Elke
storie is n reisstorie, maar vat jou

SPREADING LOVE: The Grade 13 pupils of Beaumont Primary
joined hands on their playground to sing happy birthday to Madiba
and to pray for all South African pupils who are less fortunate than
themselves. Beaumont spokesperson Carol Viljoen said, Instead of
doing one project as a school, it was decided to spread the circle of
caring wider. Each Beaumont family was asked to do something for
67 minutes on the day after school and pupils shared in class what
they had done; from visiting the old age home, helping at the SPCA,
taking food to the car guards, picking up 67 pieces of litter on the
beach and painting the church office wall. Viljoen said the teachers
were touched by the level of caring that occurs in our community.
