What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic Violence is a pattern of abuse in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate

partner.

Domestic Violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person.

FORMS OF ABUSE

Sexual Abuse is a form of physical abuse

Any situation in which you are forced to participate in

unwanted, unsafe or degrading sexual activity is sexual abuse.

Emotional Abuse is to chip away feelings of self-worth and independence. Scars of emotional abuse are very real and they run

deep.

Economic/ Financial Abuse is a subtle form of emotional

abuse. It can be as simple as preventing you from working or as big as sabotaging your job.

becoming victims2. ¨ Every year more than 3 million children

witness domestic violence in their homes.3. ¨ More than 60% of domestic violence

incidents happen at home.

5. According to US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Domestic Violence is the third leading cause of homelessness among families.
