ATV & UTVingThe ATV/UTV trails are located mostly on land owned and managed by Langlade County. Trails are maintained by Langlade County with the exception of private property, which is maintained by local clubs. There are over 90 miles of trail connected by several routes. The trail is very scenic and traverses glacial moraines, upland hardwoods, cedar swamps and small rivers and lakes. The terrain is slightly rolling to very hilly. The trails connect to Forest, Oconto, Lincoln and Oneida County ATV trails. ATV/UTV route can be accessed from Antigo’s north side hotels. The trails open May 1 and close December 1, weather permitting. ATV/UTV TRAIL ACCESSThere are six major parking areas:1. Parrish Highland Trail area- Hwy Q, at the Oneida/Langlade County Line.- Hwy H, 2 miles south of Hwy’s 17 and Q.- Hwy T, 3 miles west of Hwy 45, Summit Lake.2. Augustyn Springs Trail area- Hwy A, 8 miles northeast of Neva from Hwy 45.3. White Lake Trail area- Sherry Rd, 1.25 miles north of Hwy 64, Polar. - Hwy M/Maple St., DowntownWhite Lake.

SnowmobilingLanglade County has more than 530 miles of snowmobile trails. It is not possible to include this large trail system on this map. A separate Langlade County snowmobile trail map is available by contacting the Langlade County Forestry Department at 715-627-6300 or visit www.langladecounty.org.

Over 530 miles of impeccably groomed trails await snowmobilers. Trails link numerous resorts, restaurants, taverns and service stations. Trails are maintained for public use by 10 local clubs and Langlade County. Trail systems in Langlade County and statewide would not be possible without the dedicated club members and the private landowners gracious enough to allow trails over their properties. Winter trails are closed to ATVs when the temperature is above 28 degrees F as damage to the packed trail can occur when temperatures rise above that point. SnowshoeingSnowshoeing is available with marked packed trails at Gartzke Flowage and Moccasin Lake. If backcountry skiing or snowshoeing is more your sport, enjoy the 130,000 acres of County forest lands, 50 miles of Langlade County Ice Age Trail, Antigo Single Track Mountain Bike Trail or the Game Lake Nature Trail in Veterans Memorial Park. Fees not required; donations appreciated.

Cross-Country SkiingGartzke Flowage Cross-Country Ski Trail: 5.5 miles long, designed for all abilities, and groomed for both classic and freestyle. Parking area, restrooms, and recreation shelters. Located 10 miles west of Antigo.

Jack Lake Cross-Country Ski Trail: 15 miles long, designed for all abilities, and Piston-Bully groomed for both classic and freestyle. Parking area, restrooms and warming shelters. Located 16 miles north of Antigo.

Kettlebowl Cross-Country Ski Trail: 4.3 miles long, includes three loops of groomed for classic and freestyle. Located in Kettlebowl Ski Area in central part of Langlade County.

Maranatha Cross Country Ski Trail: 6.7 miles of classic skiing for beginner to expert level within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Maintained by Silver Birch Ranch and is open to the public. The trail begins ½ mile east of Silver Birch Ranch located at N6120 Sawyer Lake Road (4 miles North of Langlade in the western part of Langlade County).

Moccasin Lake Cross-Country Ski Trail: 5.5 miles long, designed for all abilities, and groomed for both classic and freestyle. Parking area, restrooms, and recreation shelter. Located 3 miles west of Elcho in northwest corner of Langlade County.

Springbrook Cross Country Ski Trail: 2.06 miles of trail right in the City of Antigo, designed for beginners and groomed for both classic and freestyle. Parking available at the dead end of Virginia Street or the entrance off of Byrne Road.

Downhill SkiingKettlebowl Downhill Ski Area provides great naturally made snow slope skiing and snowboarding for the entire family. Tow rope-operated and is open every weekend during the winter when weather permits. Prices are very reasonable! Parking area, restrooms and a chalet with concessions available. Located in central part of Langlade County.

Hiking & Biking

Hiking - Langlade County boasts 50 miles of the thousand-mile Ice Age Trail, divided into five segments: the County provides maps and specific information on each of these segments. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest covers the eastern portion of Langlade County and offers many opportunities for hiking on its many forest

roads. Just west of Antigo is the Ackley Wildlife Area where hikers have great opportunities to view waterfowl, deer, and an occasional bear. Veterans Memorial Park offers many miles of well-marked nature trails that feature a loop around an underdeveloped lake and an arboretum with over 500 plant species.

Mountain Biking - New in 2017, 8.5 miles of fast, flowing mountain bike trail has been added to Jack Lake/Veterans Memorial Park, while City of Antigo Single Track Mountain Bike Trail added 1 mile of new beginner trail to the already existing mile of trail. For a challenging single track trail, try the Nicolet Roche Mountain Bike Trail, located in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. This single-track trail incorporates natural features that are sure to keep the excitement level up. Other great mountain biking can be found at Gartzke Flowage and Moccasin Lake cross-country ski trail systems.

Rafting & PaddlingNothing beats whitewater rafting or kayaking in Langlade County. The famous Wolf River, located in the eastern part of the county, is one of the best whitewater rivers in the Midwest! The Wolf offers everything from quiet calm waters in the northern section to complex rapids in the southern sections. Thrilling as it may be, the Wolf River demands great respect and paddling itself requires good judgment. The southern sections are not recommended for

children under eight or nonswimmers. To ensure an enjoyable outing, it is highly recommended to go through one of the excellent rafting outfitters in the area. If calmer waters is more your style, try kayaking or stand up paddle boarding on our many lakes.

CampingLanglade County offers it all, from primitive to RV camping. Four public campgrounds offer a host of amenities: Veterans Memorial Park located in the Langlade County Forest, Ada and Boulder Lake Campgrounds in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, and Lake Park located within the city limits of Antigo. Also throughout the county are

numerous private campgrounds and resorts. If you want solitude, and love rustic camping, the Langlade County Forest and Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest offer wilderness camping (free of charge – no amenities) anywhere, unless posted otherwise in the forest for up to 14 days. Remember to check off-road vehicle and possible fire restrictions along with awareness of the firewood rule.

Langlade County ForestThe county forest now totals over 130,000 acres providing countless hours of recreation opportunities for hikers, bikers, ATVers, snowmobilers, bird watchers, hunters and many other outdoor lovers. The county forest provides a stable basis for forest products and serves to enhance

water quality, and improve wildlife environment. In 1928, the County established the first county forest in Wisconsin leading the way for a permanent program of county forest management.

HuntingEnjoy over a quarter of a million acres of territory open for public hunting. Wildlife includes deer, bear, ruffed grouse, woodcock, squirrel, rabbit, turkey, waterfowl and predator hunting.

Chequamegon-NicoletNational Forest

The Chequamegon - Nicolet National Forest established in 1933, offers a wide range of recreational opportunities. Including hunting, fishing, camping, biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, and snowmobiling all set in 1.5 million acres of scenic areas of mature timber and dotted with thousands of lakes and rivers. The Lakewood District, which includes portions of the Wolf River Township in eastern Langlade County, features nearly 33,000 acres open for public use.
