Global Ministries Missionaries (Number per Country)
Called to serve as pastors, teachers, doctors, nurses, social workers, church planters and in a variety of other roles, more than 300 people serve as United Methodist missionaries around the world. Due to their placements in sensitive countries and to protect them in their work, not all are indicated on the map above. Church and Community Workers are missionaries devoted to working alongside people who are disenfranchised in rural and urban poor communities throughout the United States. Global Mission Fellows serve around the world, including in the U.S. through the young adult mission movement of Global Ministries.

Mission Initiative Countries
Global Ministries works collaboratively with church leaders around the world to plant new churches, especially where Methodism is nonexistent or new to a country or community. Mission Initiatives are the manifestation of what The United Methodist Church does in response to paragraphs in the Book of Discipline about “Missions.” The purpose of a mission initiative is to provide and develop ministry with a particular region whose potential and needs cannot be met within the existing structures and resources of an annual conference or district. A mission initiative may also be the initial stage toward the formation of a provisional annual conference. Current mission initiatives accompanied by Global Ministries on behalf of The United Methodist Church are in Central Africa Republic, Honduras, Laos, Mongolia and Vietnam.
UMCOR Disaster Management Offices & Health Boards (Number per Country)
Through a joint program between UMCOR and Central Conference episcopal areas, the Disaster Management offices serve as a results-based model to facilitate the UMCOR mandate of training and equipping the church in disaster response by enabling effective, efficient and ethical local disaster response. Working with the Global Health unit, UMC health boards and local communities develop strategic plans and propose integrated solutions to address issues of community health and wellness. Currently, United Methodist health boards coordinate work in Angola, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique, Peru, Philippines, Sierra Leone, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
