WITH  LT.  GOVERNOR  GAVIN  NEWSOM  AND  THE  TONY  AWARD-‐WINNING  CREATIVE  TEAM  OF

“FUN  HOME”    San  Francisco,  CA  –  Carole  Shorenstein  Hays  has  announced  that  San  Francisco’s  Curran  will  re-‐open  in  January  of  2017  with   the   groundbreaking   Tony   Award-‐winning  musical   Fun   Home.     The   news  was   shared   this   evening   by  Shorenstein  Hays,  live  from  the  stage  at  the  Curran,  where  the  Fun  Home  creative  team  appeared  for  an  in-‐depth  conversation  with  Gavin  Newsom,  Lieutenant  Governor  of  California.      “I  first  came  to  the  Curran  with  my  family.  I  was  10  years  old  and  I  remember  feeling  welcomed  with  open  arms.”    Shorenstein  Hays  said.  “Fun  Home  is  just  that  kind  of  musical.    It  reflects  the  open-‐hearted  spirit  I  experienced  that  first  time  I  ever  walked   into  the  Curran.    This   is  the  perfect  show  to  welcome  everyone,  one  and  all,   to  our  new  home,   and   how   fitting   that   we   will   be   sharing   this   show   with   Bay   Area   audiences   right   on   the   heels   of   the  inauguration  of  the  next  President  of  the  United  States.”    Tony  Award-‐winning  director  Sam  Gold,  who  staged  both  the  Off  Broadway  and  Broadway  productions  of  Fun  Home,  will  be  restaging  this  production  for  proscenium  theaters  like  the  Curran,  as  was  done  in  its  sold-‐out  run  at  the  Public  Theater’s  Newman  and  Shiva  Theaters..  The  Broadway  production  of  of  Fun  Home  opened  on  April  19,  2015  and  is  currently  playing  to  sold-‐out  houses  in-‐the-‐round  at  Broadway’s  Circle  in  the  Square  Theatre.      Fun  Home  will   be   the   first   event   at   the   Curran   in   2017,   a   year   that  will   feature   a   surprisingly   eclectic     array   of  programming.    Based  on  Alison  Bechdel's  best-‐selling  graphic  memoir,  Fun  Home  features  music  by  Jeanine  Tesori,  book  and  lyrics  by  Lisa  Kron  and  direction  by  Sam  Gold,  whose  work  on  this  production  earned  them  Tony  Awards  for  Best  Score,  Best  Book  and  Best  Direction.

Ticket  on-‐sale  date,  casting  and  more  will  be  announced  at  a  later  date.  For  advance  access  to  tickets,  and  to  be  the  first  to  hear  about  exciting  happenings  at  the  Curran,  sign-‐up  at  SFCURRAN.COM.        For  more  information  on  updated  tour  cities,  please  visit  www.funhomebroadway.com.      Fun  Home  introduces  us  to  Alison  at  three  different  ages,  revealing  memories  of  her  uniquely  dysfunctional  family  –  her  mother,  brothers  and  volatile,  brilliant,  enigmatic  father  –  that  connect  with  her   in  surprising  new  ways.  A

finalist  for  the  Pulitzer  Prize,  Fun  Home  is  a  refreshingly  honest,  wholly  original  musical  about  seeing  your  parents  through  grown-‐up  eyes.

Fun  Home  was  also  nominated  for  2015  Tony  Awards  for  Best  Scenic  Design  of  Musical  (David  Zinn),  Best  Lighting  Design  of  a  Musical  (Ben  Stanton)  and  Best  Orchestrations  (John  Clancy).  The  creative  team  also  includes  Danny  Mefford  (Choreography),  Kai  Harada  (Sound  Design),  and  Chris  Fenwick  (Music  Direction).

Built   in   1922,   the  Curran   has   housed   some  of   the  most   important   productions   in   history   and  has  maintained   a  reputation  over  the  course  of  its  life  as  one  of  the  greatest  venues  in  North  America.    Now,  nearly  100  years  after  it  welcomed  its  first  Bay  Area  audiences,  the  Curran  is  in  the  midst  of  a  major  restoration  and  renovation.    Under  the  curation  of  eight-‐time  Tony  Award  winner  Carole  Shorenstein  Hays,  the  Curran  will  reopen  as  a  1,600  seat  venue  in  early   2017   with   a   new  mission,   being   a   home   for   the  most   exciting   stage   works   being   conceived   and   created  anywhere  in  the  world.        For  information,  visit  SFCURRAN.COM.    For  photos  of  Fun  Home  on  Broadway:  http://www.oandmco.com/clients/fun-‐home  Username:  press  Password:  openingnight
