This presentation will cover work models and some statistical data about the
IX.br locations.

IX.br – Project
IX.br (Brazil Internet Exchange) is the project of the Brazilian Internet Steering
Committee (CGI.br) that provides the necessary infrastructure for the direct
interconnection between the diverse networks that operate in a metropolitan
region.
IX.br project started in 2004, NIC.br to deploy and maintain all IX locations.
IX.br has a partnership to support its operation with entities that host PIX on all
locations, like RNP.

All IX.br Locations are Isolated
The main purpose for IX.br locations is to allow the local traffic to
stay in the location.
NIC.br does not intend to interconnect IX.br Locations.
IX.br project stimulates and supports inter locations transport services done
by participants companies.
IX.br have defined some transport modes in order to optimize common
resources and reduce costs that are already in production.

At the beginning of the project, all locations were installed with the
standard type but we needed more agility and resource optimization.

Since 2016, the last version 2.0, we deploy a lot of new services, already
tested in the biggest locations, like flows / quarentine enviroment / VPN /
etc.

Many services are concentrated in São Paulo, again, resource
optimization and faster processing.

For all versions is necessary one switch with Base-T interfaces for
management and interconnect the services and one switch with optical
interfaces to connected the participants.
Nowadays in medium and small locations the network is a layer2
network.

IX.br – IX Fórum 12 – São Paulo, Brazil
The IX Fórum 12 event will take place in São Paulo, Brazil on the 11th and 12th of December 2018.
IX Fórum normal audience is composed by Brazilian Autonomous Systems (AS) and PTTMetro/PTT.br IX participants (some of them are international companies).
The event will be translated between Portuguese and English.
The event will be part of the Brazilian Internet Infrastructure week together with an GTER/GTS (Network Engineering, Operation and Security Working Groups).
