- Awarded to Refining Associates

(Canada) Ltd (70,826 sqkm)

- Kyushu acquired the latter’s interest;

subsequently BP and UCPI held the

interest (UCPI as Operator)

- UCPI drilled 4 wells in 1970 and shot

4288 km 2D seismic (1966-1973)

- 1974 Ashland farmed-in and drilled

Makassar Straits-1 gas discovery (tested 9.2 mmscfd)

- 1975 Elf Aquitaine farmed-in and

drilled 2 wells in 1976 and PSC

terminated in Dec 1978

Phase II: 1978 – 1997

- No exploration activity

Four (4) phase of exploration

history:

Phase III: 1997 – 2003

-Gulf Indonesia signed the

Sebuku Block in 1997

- Reprocessed and shot 2D

seismic (1998 – 1999)

- Drilled Pangkat-1 oil discovery

in Dec 2000 (tested 100 bopd)

Phase IV: 2003 up to now- PEARL took over in June 2003

- Reprocessed and shot 2D

seismic (2003 – 2004)

- Re-interpret the area prior to

drilling an exploratory well in

� Rifting occurred in Paleocene/early Eocene time

and rifts were infilled mostly by lacustrine and fluvio-deltaic sediments later becoming marine;

post-rift is dominated by marine influence as indicated by widespread carbonate and marine

shale deposition.

� Main reservoirs are Eocene SS of Lower Tanjung

Fm equivalent and E. Oligocene – E. Miocene Berai Limestone; secondary reservoir is Mid-Late

Miocene Warukin SS & Carbonates and Tertiary/Pre-Tertiary Basement rocks.

� Main source rock is Eocene shales and coals

deposited in lacustrine and fluvio-deltaic

environments.

� Shales of Tanjung, Berai, Warukin and Dahor Fms act as seals.

� Trapping mechanism mostly structural closures,

some bounded by faults, as well as reefs.

� Hydrocarbon migration probably began in

Oligo/Miocene time.

Kesimpulan

• Petroleum sistem pada cekungan asem-asem yaitu:� Source Rock : Source Rock Utama Formasi Tanjung pada

Batulempung dengan jenis kerogen didominasi oleh gas rawaninertinit vitrinit.

� Reservoir Rock : Reservior rock utamanya adalah FormasiTanjung dengan Porositas 20 % hingga lebih besar 30 % danpermeabilitas 105 milidarcy sampai 212 milidarcy

� Caps Rock : Batulempung Formasi Tanjung atas

� Trap : Perangkap Hidrokarbon didominasi strukutur sesar

• Berdasarakan Hasil pemaparan makalah, maka Cekungan Asem-asem memiliki potensi Hidrokarbon yang potensial untuk terus di explorasi.
