Relative Temperature

Hot, Cold, Warm, or Cool

Probably the most often asked question in weather is:

"What is the temperature going to be today?"

The answer depends upon many things.

Most often, it is the time of day that has the most influence on the change

in temperature.

DAY NIGHT

The meteorologist on the news usually tells us the high and low temperatures for the

day.

The temperature changes during the day- even more if a storm comes through.

Daily Temperatures

Where does the meteorologist get the data when they report the temperature?

They read thermometers throughout the day so we know what the temperature is:

When we get up

Temperature Changes

When we leave for school While we are at

school

When we get home

When we go to bed

What feels cold?

What do you think feels “cold”?

What feels hot?

What do you think feels “hot”?

How might heat cause

change?

(Think about an ice cream cone on a hot day!)

Why is it important to know what the

temperature will be during the day?

Share your thinking.
