What are Comenius projects? Comenius school projects have the goal to better the quality and consolidate the European dimension in education, to support the learning of foreign languages and international cooperation between schools, to

promote intercultural awareness and innovation of pedagogical methods and of informational means. These projects are promoted and financially supported by the European Commission through the National Agency of each country. They involve a large number of people: pupils, parents, teachers as well as the local community and non governmental organisations. Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, six schools representing six countries have obtained from the European Commission the necessary funding to run a Comenius project for 2 years. This is: Young People- Living and Working in Europe.

What are the objectives?

For the pupils:

to develop the creative abilities of the pupils; to learn to appreciate other nations’ cultures, feelings and life-styles by arousing curiosity regarding other

young citizens in the community, something that social and geographical environment has not always enabled them to explore;

to develop the idea of travelling, living and working abroad; to know about professional training and working possibilities in Europe; to improve cross-cultural dialogues; to involve the pupils actively in the life of the community; to develop the use of the latest information and communication technology in a common language; to increase their European culture and to raise awareness of cultural differences; to encourage and increase communication with students from other countries (exchange

of material and experiences); to practise another language; to give students working and training opportunities abroad; to diminish the students’ fear of travelling to foreign countries; to share problems in partner countries because they are getting less abstract and more concrete as they can be associated with known students;

For the teachers: to learn across the exchange of didactic experiences – joint development of didactic

materials; to establish new means of cooperation; to obtain experience in projects;

For the institution:

to promote the school within its local society and raise its status;
