II. Key points in the text 1. bother

1) Vt. worry, annoy or trouble, esp. in little ways 烦扰,打扰

e.g. He is very busy working and won’t allow anyone to bother him.

I’m sorry to bother you, but can you…?

It bothered me that no one took my ideas seriously.

2) V. to cause inconvenience or trouble to oneself 烦恼,操心

not bother to do sth. / doing sth.

bother with/about sth

e.g. Lots of people don’t bother to get through a marriage ceremony these days.

Never bother about people’s opinions.

3) n. trouble, or difficulty

e.g. I usually buy sliced bread– it’s less bother.

I’ll drive you back to your hotel. It’s no bother.

(used after you offer to do sth. You are emphasizing that you really want to do it and that will take very little effort. )

1) free ( 作表语 )

You’d better do some reading when you are at leisure.

2) without hurry 悠闲地 ( 作状语 )

I don’t object to gardening so long as I can do it at leisure.

Translate:

我把写信推迟到今天是为了能从容地写。

I put off writing to you till today so that I might write at leisure.

leisurely adj. (done) without haste

悠闲的,从容的 adv. (rare)

e.g. They walked along the beach at a leisurely pace.

I had a leisurely glass of beer.

e.g. The Gulf has 65 percent of the world’s oil reserves.

You should keep some money in reserve.

reserved adj. (typical of people) who do not like to talk about themselves or to show their feelings; shy
