大扫除 dà sǎo chú

• This is the last night before new year. Chinese family will get together to have a lavish dinner.

• Some people stay all night to play games and watch movies to guard for the coming of the 年。

团圆饭 tuán yuán fàn The reunion dinner is very lavish with many delicious food. Some traditional food for Chinese New year are:

dumplings, spring rolls, fish, chicken, noodles, sweet rice cakes, oranges, and all kinds of candies.

红包 hóng bāo It is a custom for parents and adults to give children 红包 . 红包 is a red

envelope filled with money.

舞龙舞狮Dragon dance and lion dance are popular to celebrate Chinese New Year. The imaginary dragon and lion are the symbols of power

and authorities.

鞭炮 biān pào The firecracker is used to scare the 年 away.

灯笼 dēng lóng The lanterns are hung to scare the 年 away and also bring the good luck.
