Gimnazjum Publiczne im. Andrzeja Wajdy w Rudnikach

Location Our school is located in the municipality of Rudniki in Krakowsko-

Częstochowska upland. Rudniki is a small village in the south-west of Poland, 50 kilometres from Częstochowa – a catholic pilgrimage center for the people from all over the world and 100 kilometres from Wrocław -one of the largest and most modern cities in Poland. Our Town is near the River Warta.

Patron The patron of the school is a prominent Polish film director - Andrzej Wajda. He is

well-known both in Poland and abroad. He was awarded an Oscar in 2000.Andrzej Wajda visited our school a few times and often writes letters to us.

History At the beginning , the school was situated in the manor house in Rudniki. It was built in 1666 and was used as a school until 1958. The school had 443 students and only 10 teachers in 1936. When the Second World War began the school was closed. In October 1939, the teachers returned to school, but after a few days they were forced to flee and start underground education known as secret learning. In 1945 the school was re-established. Conditions were very difficult because there was no exercise books, school benches and other equipment. In 1958 a new school building was built. It was the first school with a gym in the area! Since 2000, the schoolbuilding was converted in the Andrzej Wajda Junior High School. From the school year 2002/2003 the school has been functioning very well and is one of thebest schools in the province.
