A student’s guide to avoiding lame computer-related excuses.

“My printer ran out of ink”

You have a paper due tomorrow. It’s finished, you’ve proofread and revised it, had a parent or friend read it to double-check, and even read it out loud to check your fluency.

But…

Scenario

THERE IS NO INK IN THE PRINTER!

Attach your paper and email it to me.rob.granger@badger.k12.wi.us

Option 1- Email

The “e” does not stand for elephant.

You can save the file to a flash drive or burn it to a CD.

****NOTE**** There is a possibility that the file won’t open on

my computer. This is especially possible if you have a Mac or use Linux. I will try on my computer at school, and try Open Office on my home computer. If I cannot open your file, your assignment will be considered late.

Option 2- Flash Drive/CD

There are better ways.

Email with an attachment to: robgranger@markupsync.comThe document will go straight to my iPad, and I

can give you feedback straight from there.

Option 3- Markup

Look at all these wonderful web 2.0 tools you can use to share your paper with me. Most with no compatibility issues!

Option 4- The Cloud

You can easily start a blog, then copy and paste your paper into it.Just show up with the web address.Blogger.com is an easy one to use

Option 5- Blogs

This guy has at least five blogs.

Ok, I understand this happens. Let’s talk about how to work around it.

Addendum: My Computer Crashed!

Using cloud storage:You’re good!

Using a flash drive:Save often, and you’re good!

A Crashed Computer:

Mom, it’s not a touchscreen. No, Mom. Mom!

There is not an excuse for not handing in work on time. You have a variety of options, and you shouldn’t be waiting until the last minute anyway.

Bottom Line

I can start working on things as soon as they’re assigned?

As always, if you think you will have a hard time getting a project in on time, talk to me beforehand. We can figure something out.

Anticipating Problems?

This won’t be involved.
