• WHO is in full support of the new UN Action Plan for the third decade

after Chernobyl and is committed to its implementation

• Areas of WHO activities under the Action Plan:

– Assisting the national authorities of the three most affected countries with

health-care programs and monitoring of the affected people

– Shaping and promoting the research agenda in the area of the health

consequences of the Chernobyl accident, based on the recommendations of

the Chernobyl Forum

– Dissemination of the health findings of the Chernobyl Forum

– In coordination with IAEA, UNICEF, and UNDP, contribute to the

International Chernobyl Research and Information Network (ICRIN) project

• WHO will implement a 3-yr collaborative project on ICRIN by empowering local communities through communication, education and development

• Key activities under this project include dissemination of information through development of tailored education packages and delivering them at series of seminars and workshops to the local communities:

– Decision makers, teachers, health workers, young parents, etc

• To be implemented in close cooperation with national partners and WHO Country Offices in each of three countries
