Why chapter 2?

1 Peter 2 was written to “Christian warriors” who were tempted to compromise and turn back to a less offensive lifestyle and doctrine.

1 Peter 2- “stone of stumbling”

“He will be as a sanctuary, but also a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.”

Isaiah 8:14

Like the U.S. military, Christians are guardians, offending the wicked and stumbling evil doers.

Malice: Intent to do evil

Deceit: Speaking partial, less-offensive truth

1 Peter 2:1

Hypocrisy: Conduct out-of-step with your beliefs.Envying: Desirous to be like God’s enemies

1 Peter 2:1

Evil speaking: Apologizing for, or criticizing Christianity.

1 Peter 2:1- Paraphrase“Remove yourself from evil, that is, speaking partial, less-offensive truth; acting worldly in order to impress people who love to hear you criticize the Church and apologize for the Bible.”
