The existing playground, or sometimes a dead space

The existing playground, or sometimes almost like a dirty swimming pool

The existing garbage pond, but sometimes a playground

Experimenting with people, finding a good team

We use Hi-Tech and Low-Tech to get people’s attention

Community cleaning activities – The Low

How do you want to change the abandoned space near your house into something useful and fun?

The girls who live near the dead old playground space whose parents don’t allow them to come and play too far from their houses……

The group of boys who were always hanging around the old playground space. They are glue addicts. People said they made the space become dead so no one feels it is safe to walk pass…

MOVIE Night – The Hi-Tech

When ideas became clearer, we made it with dimensions

DISAGREEMENT- Problems of having no one taking care of it

‘I’m afraid having too many small holes will lead the kids to just put their garbage in…’

‘We shouldn’t have too many spaces that glue addicted kids can hide’

Visualising ideas on ground

We tried making Dreams into Reality

Visualising ideas on site

‘This depth is for big kids’

‘This depth is for small kids’

‘Like this, we can sit facing each other’

‘I wanna be able to walk up to the second floor’

In the end, we made this together……

Behind Stories

One girl proposed to their adults that she could organise a group of friends to save 5 baht every month for the electricity to keep the playground bright at night since the community has to pay for it and was afraid if the responsibility went to the adults, the space would be still dark.

What’s happening is……. Some adults shut down the electricity system because of some personal reasons, so the children only got to play in a bright space at night only a few times since the structure was finished….

One of the playground neighbours said she could take care of the space by locking up the space at night

What’s happening is……. The ‘public’ space has no lock.

Another neighbour got really upset about the playground renovation, she started fighting with the people who agreed to it, because she didn’t want kids to scream and shout near her house while playing.

What happened was……. The people who agreed to it were happy to fight with her and continued on making the building happen.

The community leader said he would bring this space idea to the Klong Toey local authority, to see if the community would get public light so they don’t have to pay every month and the space would

become legal and a registered public space

We use Hi-Tech and Low-Tech to get people’s attention

We call it a MOVIE NIGHT!!!

The Movie night helped us gather people and opened up more conversations…..

When the people were there, before the movie, we brought up the project ideas and updates…

The community center turned into the movie ground for everyone…..

Then lots of activities and participation came after…

We made designs using

plasticine and available materials

around the community and

came up with a 3d model

together!!!

Community designing their

playground on 3d

Community making their first community bench as a test to see how they could use recycle materials for their furniture

Teenagers helping with cutting and drilling bamboo to make community vertical garden

Community building their vertical garden structure

from bamboo, the material that could be found around their

community

After all the participation…
