Yto Barrada

Barrada is a French artist who works with a variety of different mediums such as photography, film, sculpture, prints and installations. She initially studied History and Political Science before moving on to studying Photography at International Centre of Photography, New York.

Her work The Strait Project is very understated without dramatics to represent everyday life in the town. It reflects on her hometown and the struggle people face trying to cross the Strait from Tangier. The Strait is the body of water connecting the Mediterranean and Atlantic oceans, it marks a line between the richer North and the poorer South.
