INTRODUCTIONFastest car in the world.Can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in just two sec.Top speed of 288 miles/hr (463km/hr).Can apply break from this speed to standstill in less than 10 sec.Costs about 205 million $.

HISTORYThe CHIRON bears the initial of ETTORE BUGATTI the father of Italian family that build unusual high performance cars between 1909 until 1947.Later in 1998 Volkswagen bought the Rights to the brand.Chiron got its name from Bugattis famous race driver LOUIS CHIRON.Louis has won over twenty Grand prix in his entire career.

ENGINEA W16 engine is a sixteen cylinder piston internal combustion engine in a four-bank W configuration. All W16 engines consist of two 'offset double-row' banks of eight cylinders, coupled to a single crankshaftThe Volkswagen Group 8L W16 engine as configured for the Bugatti Chiron E is a 16cylinder quad-turbocharged engine with four valves per cylinder.Maximum power output is 1500horsepower, with a 1100pound-feet of torque.

W - ENGINE

In the W engines, these banks of cylinders are aligned at a V-angle of 72 degrees in relation to one another. As in the VR engine, the cylinders within each bank maintain a V-angle of 15 degrees.

WORKING

It uses four valve per cylinder,64 valves total, with four overhead camshafts, and bore stroke ratio 1:1.

The major advantage of this engine is packaging; that is it contain high number of cylinders but are compact.

TURBOCHARGERS

The Bugatti has 4 separate turbo chargers that allow the engine to be moderately sized. A turbocharger is a turbine-driven forced induction device that increases an internal combustion engine's efficiency and power output by forcing extra air into the combustion chamber.This improvement over a naturally aspirated engine's output results because the turbine can force more air, and proportionately more fuel, into the combustion chamber than atmospheric pressure alone.

COOLING SYSTEMThe engine actually produces 3000 bhp.Half of it is in the form of heat.For cooling Bugatti uses 10 radiators.Radiators are used to transfer heat energy for purpose of cooling.3 heat exchangers for the air-to-liquid intercoolers.3 engine radiators.1 for the air conditioning system.1 transmission oil radiator.1 differential oil radiator.1 engine oil radiator.

7 SPEED DUAL CLUCTH DSGDirect Shift Gearbox is abbreviated to DSG.It is two separate manual gearboxes contained within one housing and working as one unit.There are 2 input shafts, one for the in gear and one for the out gear.The two clutches acts on the each input shaft.With two separate transmission shafts two gears can be engaged at the same time.Shift is only the change of the clutch system.

HOW DCT WORKS ?

In a conventional manual transmission, there is not a continuous flow of power from the engine to the wheels.Instead, power delivery changes from ON to OFF to ON duringgearshift, causing a phenomenon known as "shift shock" or "torque interrupt.A dual-clutch transmission uses two clutches, but has no clutch pedal.Sophisticated electronics and hydraulics control the clutches, just as they do in a standard automatic transmission.In a DCT, however, the clutches operate independentlyOne clutch controls the odd gears(first, third, fifth, seventh and reverse), while the other controls the even gears (second, fourth and sixth)6 Using this arrangement, gears can be changed withoutinterrupting the power flow from the engine to the transmission.

ACCELERATIONWith 1500 horsepower(1118.55 KW) and 1100 pound ft of torque the car reaches to its top speed of 288 miles/hr (463km/hr).The chiron accelerates from 0 to 60 mile in just 2.0 sec.The rear wing adds stability to high speed run.

BRAKESMECHANICAL BRAKEThe Chirons break use crossed drilled, radially vented carbon fibre reinforced silicon (C/, SiC) composite discs manufactured by SGL Carbon which have a greater resistance to brake fade compared to cast iron.An added safety feature, an anti lock braking system (ABS) has also been installed on the handbrake.AIR BRAKE The Chiron can decelerate from 230mph to 0mph in only 7.5 seconds, largely due to the extra down force achieved with the rear wing, which is raised within 0.4 seconds to a 55 angle.

AERODYNAMICS

TYRESBugatti uses biggest tyres designed for any sportscar in the world.These tyres are 14.5 inches wide on the rear wheel, twice as much as normal car.These are handmade tyres made by rolling multiple layers of rubber over a drum.

CHASSISThe entire body of Chiron is made from carbon fibre.Unlike other cars it dont have frame in the middle of the car.The passenger compartment is built with Monocoque construction.

CONCLUSIONThis car is extremely rare piece of mechanical art.It is part aeroplane part car.The Bugatti Chiron is unique piece of engineering and an extremely expensive car (2.5 million $) that can run over 288miles/hr.The new Bugatti Chiron is expected to come by the end of next year.
