GE traces its beginnings to Thomas A. Edison, who established Edison Electric Light Company in 1878. In 1892, a merger of Edison General Electric Company and Thomson-Houston Electric Company created General Electric Company. GE is the only company listed in the Dow Jones Industrial Index today that was also included in the original index in 1896.

On the evening of March 6,1887, a small light flickered at

Geoncheon Palace in the Gyeongbok Palace. The first light in the

country brightened the area.

"Wow!" - everyone gathered near the light gasped in surprise.

It was the first electric light ever to be lit in Korea.

An electric light engineer from the Edison Electric Light Company,

named William McKay, assembled and installed electric generators

and the light.

Around that time, Thomas Edison wrote in his journal as below:

"The light bulb that I invented lit in a mysterious royal palace

in Asia… I feel like dreaming!!"
