2. VISAYAS The Visayas or Visayan Islands, is one of the three principalgeographical divisions of the Philippines, along with Mindanao and Luzon. It consists of several islands, primarily surrounding the Visayan Sea, although the Visayas are considered the northeast extremity of the entire Sulu Sea. Residents are known as the Visayans. The major islands of the Visayasare Panay, Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, and Samar. The region may also include the islands of Romblon andMasbate, whose population identify as Visayan. There are three administrative regions in the Visayas: WesternVisayas, Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas. The Visayas is composed of 16 provinces. 3. VISAYASWestern VisayasEastern VisayasCentral Visayas 4. Western VisayasREGION VI Western Visayas consists of the islands of Panay andthe western half of Negros. The regional center is Iloilo City. Its provinces are: Aklan Antique Capiz Guimaras Iloilo Negros Occidental 5. Central VisayasREGION VII Central Visayas includes the islands of Cebu andBohol and the eastern half of Negros. The regional center is Cebu City. Its provinces are: Bohol Cebu Negros Oriental Siquijor 6. Eastern VisayasREGION VIII Eastern Visayas consists of the islandsof Leyte and Samar. ILOILO, CAPIZ, GUIMARAS ATI HOUSEAtis House The Atis house is made of round timber, cogon grass for its roofing and its wall is made of binalantak nga bolo or small bamboos. Bamboo slats are used for the flooring. The Ati do not use nails but only ropes to secure the house. The house measures 8 by 9 square feet and it has a receiving area for visitors. The palayas or extension serves as the storage for their cooking and eating utensils as well as the cooking area of the family.
