It’s a pets’ world

UK: about 1 pet per household.

Members of the family

A US survey revealed that pet owners are far more likely to buy a gift for their pet (69%) than for their significant other or spouse (61%), their kids (42%),

friends (10%) or co-workers (3%).

What about Italians?

• 55.3% owns one of more pets, (+14% than in 2012).

• Dogs are preferred by families with children, while singles dig

cats.

• 1 out of 2 spends less than 30€/month on them; 1 out of 5 spends more than 51€ per

month.

We are familyIn Italy, the relationship between owner and

pet has turned to “friends”… and even “relatives”. 92% say they couldn’t live without their pet: dog owners over 55 years old say they’d do anything to bring

their pets on holiday with them. In Italy too, pets are already part of the family.

New needs for Fido

New needs arise: • pet food (the pet food market

in Italy alone is worth €1,7B) • veterinary aid • care & assistance

The “pet economy” is estimated to grow at a rate of 7% per

year during the next 20 years.

Don’t leave him alone!Nobody would want to leave their pets

alone, but there are certain cases in which you just can’t bring them with you:

don’t really like to be moved!

Where it all beganBack in 2013, me and Alice Cimini

decided to take a one-month road trip to the US. So we:

• found a flat in Brooklyn with AirBnB • rented a car with Rentalcars • decided where to dine along the way

with TripAdvisor… • …and where to sleep with Booking.

#CSWVenicewww.petme.it

There was just one thing we couldn’t find via the internet: a pet-sitter for our

two cats.

Page 12: Please Pet My Kitty

Technology + caring =

We imagined a place where pet owners were able to find the ideal sitter for their cats or dogs, but also for fishes, hamsters or esotic animals. It had to be:

free fast easy to use widespread …and, most important of all, caring.

What is PetMe?PetMe is the first Italian crowdsourcing-based

community for pet lovers, where pet owners and pet-sitters get in contact.

With almost 10.000 registered users and 6.000 pet-sitters, PetMe is the best place to find your ideal pet-sitter.

How it works

(it’s in Italian only, but we’ll soon conquer the world and go bilingual)

Give and takePetMe is a marketplace based on mutual

trust and common values. The pet owner chooses and books a pet-sitter to commit his

or her beloved pet. In return, the pet-sitter guarantees:

• expertise • dedication • peace of mind • love & passion

Lil’ takeaways• Pet owners prefer competence to friendship

or acquaintance (and spend accordingly) • Pet-sitters, even when amateurs, are caring,

professional and reliable • The petsitting need isn’t anymore seasonal,

but “instant” • Pets are like cherries: once you start looking

after one, you can’t say no to another one!

Is it about time?
