Cover Letter

• Summary and highlights of your Resume • Goal = Get recruiters interest• Must contain: How you found the job, why you

want to work for them, examples of your work that fit the job

• Use a template and customize it per company

Resume

• Average time a recruiter reads your CV: 7 seconds!

• Use key words and METRICS• 3 pages max • Don’t add personal data (Age, Marital Status,

Religion)• Use Active Voice (ex: Created, Led, Built, etc)• Adapt your CV for each type of job

LinkedIn

• Create a strong Summary • Have a Professional & high quality photo • Explain what you did at each job• Get recommendations in English• Add links to your portfolio / github /

bechance etc • Publish articles in English on LinkedIn Pulse

Portfolio

• Very important, not used often• Tell your professional story, use pictures and even

video• If your code is private, create open source side

projects• Adding a blog in English is GREAT• You can use about.me, Behance, github,

wordpress etc

Slack

• Most common communication tool for tech companies

• Many Slack communities exist in each city• Join the group and start interacting with people• It’s like being in the same room as people in

Remote Jobs

• More and more common• English is not that important :) • Communication with company = key• Need to be able to take coding tests • Great sites: TopTal, Scalable Path, Crew,

Angel List, Indeed, Monster and VanHack

Common Mistakes

• Applying to few jobs• Thinking the perfect job will magically appear • Not having a portfolio / Github / code or a

product• Not Networking enough • Thinking your English isn’t good enough to try• Not having a profile to jobs on VanHack :)

Success Tips

• Your English is always getting better!• Have a blog showing your skills • Be active on Social Media / Slack • Respond to questions on sites like Stack

Overflow & Quora.• Use images and videos to grab attention • Be RESPONSIVE to emails / messages
