Тема урока

«Охрана окружающей среды»

Тип урока: обобщение и систематизация знаний Вид урока: урок-дискуссия

Цели урока:

- образовательная: совершенствовать умения и навыки практического владения английским языком по теме «Экология» по основным видам речевой деятельности: аудированию, говорению; развивать навыки самостоятельной работы;- развивающая: формировать экологическую грамотность;- воспитательная: прививать чувство любви к природе, к родному краю, воспитывать чувство ответственности, бережного отношения к природе.

Оборудование урока: лозунги «The protection of nature means the protection of our Motherland», «The Earth is our home», плакаты «Keep our environment clean», «We are in charge of our planet!», фоторепортаж «Eco problems of Our Town», аппаратура для показа слайдов.

Оформление доски: дата, тема урока «Protection of Our Environment», картинки с изображением животных и растений, занесенных в Красную книгу.

Участники дискуссии « За круглым столом»: учащиеся 10 класса в роли ученых, экологов.

Ход урока .

I.Организационный момент.

T: Comrades, today we have our last lesson about ecology. We shall discuss many important problems: how to protect nature, what we have to do to help our planet, our native town. We have invited ecologists to our lesson. They will help us in our discussing. A group of children has done a special task. I think it will be interesting to listen to them. Your home task was to try to answer some questions. Remember these questions, please.P.P. What are the most important ecological problems? Why are the people worried about the Earth? What are the eco problems caused by? How can we help our planet? What do people do to save the Earth? Who is in charge of the Earth?T. All these problems are very important and we’ll discuss them. Let’s begin.

II. Актуализация знаний.

P. I’d like to recite a poem. The Earth is a garden, It’s a beautiful place For all living creatures, For all human race. Come to the woods on a sunny day. Come to the woods some day in May. Look at the grass, at the busy bees, Look at the birds in the green, green trees.

T. Thank you. What ecological problems are people worried about?P. P. Air pollution, water pollution, land pollution, deforestation, acid rain, the greenhouse effect.T. Comrades, the protection of the Earth is global. Why are people worried about the environment? What happens on our planet?P. About two hundreds years ago man lived in harmony with nature because industry was not much developed. Nature seemed to be endless. Far from it as it turned out.

Now millions of cars and factories pollute and spoil the air we breathe in. Pollution is hanging over big cities like an ugly brown cloud. People need wood and paper, so we cut down forests.P. People build nuclear power stations and carry out nuclear tests. As a result, radiation represents one of the main problems nowadays. On the 26 th of April 1986 a catastrophe broke out 12 km off the Belorusian border. It was the major break-down of the power unit at the Chernobyl nuclear station. After the Chernobyl accident Belarus has become the zone of the ecological disaster.P. Much is spoken now about acid rains, the greenhouse effect, ozone depletion caused by wastes of industrial enterprises. How do the scientists explain global warming and what is it caused by?

Ecologist: Global warming or the «greenhouse effect» is the result of the pollution of air, land and water. The temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere has increased very much. Global warming is one of the climatic effects of polluted air. It can cause melting of polar ice, raising of the sea level and floodingP. I’d like to know why some species of animals and plants disappear from the Earth?Ec: It’s the result of the environmental pollution. Some animals disappeared, f.e. pandas which live in the jungle and white bears whichlive in the Arctic. White bears eat fish. If people pollute rivers and seas, animals die. Pollution means death to the ocean. Pollution kills whales. It kills plants and fish. Experts believe life in the ocean will be destroyed within 25 years. T: Comrades, can you give some more examples how people’s activity damages our nature?P: More than 20 years ago a pulp-and-paper factory was built on the shore of Lake Baikal. As a result, because of the water pollution more than 50% of the world’s purest water have been ruined.P: More than 30 years ago the Aral was a bright blue sea with a lot of fish. But because of the cotton plantations the Aral is in a very dangerous position now. If no immediate measures are taken, the Aral Sea will disappear by the year 2010./Демонстрация слайда «They are not to pollute»/

T: Many people are worried about ecology. They try to solve the ecological problems. How do they try to do it?P: The countries-members of the UNO have set up environmental protection agencies. They hold conferences discussing ecological problems, take practical measures to avoid ecological catastrophe.P: I’ve got a pen-friend in London. He wrote that in Britain there are a lot of environment groups: ”Friends of the Earth”, ”Greenpeace”, ”London Wildlife Trust’’. They take part in environment activities.P: In the USA there are many national parks. Yellowstone is one of the most famous of them. Although millions of people visit the park, the land is still unchanged – still a wildness. The mountains around Yellowstone are covered with evergreen forests.Ec. Russia is cooperating in the field of environmental protection with the USA, Canada, Norway and other countries. Russia and the United States are carrying out joint projects to study and protect the environmental system of the Arctic and Sub arctic regions.

III. Защита проекта « Экологические проблемы родного города»

T: We have discussed global problems. Our small Motherland is theplace we live in. Can you add some words about our district?

P. Not long ago our district was clean and healthy. But now we have the same eco problems as all over the world, although it is considered the ecological situation in our district to be quite satisfactory because there are no big plants and factories there. Our district is an agricultural one. But there are no big forests and woods there which are called « the lungs»of the planet. The Balakovo nuclear power station and the chemical plant of Gorny are situated not far of our district. They pollute the air we breathe in. It is very dangerous for people and it’s a problem to think about. T. You are right. Now some facts about the town we live in.Some schoolchildren walked through the streets of Ershov and made a photo report about eco problems of our town./Следуют выступления учащихся, подготовивших фоторепортаж об экологических проблемах Ершова./Участники дискуссии задают вопросы.Question: What is the main eco problem of Ershov? /Демонстрация слайда «Eco problems in Ershov»/

Answer: The most important of them is litter. It is everywhere. People don’t put the garbage in the garbage can. In our town there are few litter cans and people throw litter on the streets. That is why you can see a lot of litter everywhere.

Question: How to control litter?Answer: Some people never throw litter themselves, and they work together in groups to clean up the town. The schoolchildren can help to make our town cleaner.

Everyone shouldn’t leave litter on the streets, on the places of rest and our town will be cleaner.

Many people of our town take an active part in spring cleaning. Schoolchildren help them, too.

All people of our town should take care of their native town. Soon there won’t be any more places free of litter. Special organizations and specialists must be in charge of Ershov but they say they have no money for it. Not only grownups must work to do our town clean. Children can help taking part in street cleaning, collecting paper, metal, glass and plastic bottles, litter, dry grass. Our slogan is “Don’t pollute our home town!”

Question: What do you suggest doing to take care of our town? Answer: First of all you shouldn’t leave garbage on the streets and you have to stop others to do it. Pick up any litter you see and throw it in the litter bin. Don’t throw away old clothes and papers. We have to plant trees and flowers. Plant a tree in front of your house. It makes the air cleaner and our town becomes more beautiful.

IV. Подведение итогов урока.

T. I’d like to ask you how can you help to protect our environment?P.P. We shouldn’t leave fire in the forest. We must help the birds: to feed them in winter, not to damage their nests. We have to plant trees, flowers. We shouldn’t leave litter in the forests, in the streets. We shouldn’t throw litter, plastic bottles, glass bottles in the river. We can organize environment groups. We mustn’t pick wild flowers, for example, yellow tulips because they are in the Red Book. . We must save water, paper, electricity. We have to take care of our school.

T. The Earth is our home. It’s very important to save it for ourselves and for the next generations. We all must do what we can to keep our environment clean. I am sure you are real friends of our planet.
