Avi Parsha grew up in Ramle and Rehovot. After his military service in the Nahal Brigade, Avi traveled to the Far East where he worked with Nepali street children. Avi now lives in Tel Aviv where he works in telebanking at Mizrahi-Tefahot and studies economics and political science at Tel Aviv University.

Avner Gvaryahu is a second-year studentof social work in Tel Aviv. He served in a paratrooper unit and afterwards began working with “Breaking the Silence”, an organization that promotes a moral dis-cussion around the subject of service in the West Bank and Gaza. Avner is also shift manager of “Na’lagaat,” a theater group for the deaf and blind in Jaffa.

Venture: Avi and Avner are aiming to bring the “TOMS Shoes” initiative to Israel, with the “One for One” deal, where one pair of shoes is donated to a needy child for every pair bought on the TOMS website.

Gil Cohen was born in Rehovot, Israel. She holds a B.Ed in Literature and Art from David Yellin Academic College of Education and a photography diploma from the Musrara School in Jerusalem. She also has an MA in Multidisciplinary Art from Tel Aviv University. Gil is currently studying at Beit-Berl for an M.Ed in art education. Gil works as the art coordinator and teacher of Havruta School for Leadership and Culture in Emek-Hefer, and she is the co-founder, director, and co-curator of the Phantom Gallery in Tel Aviv.

Nitzan Wolanski holds a BA in Literature from the multidisciplinary program in the arts from Tel Aviv University. She studied for her MA at The Cohn Institute for the His-tory and Philosophy of Science and Ideas also at Tel Aviv University. She is the director of international relations at the Fresh Paint Contemporary Art Fair, Tel Aviv, and she is the co-founder, director, and co-curator of the Phantom Gallery in Tel Aviv.

Venture: Gil and Nitzan will start a moving gallery held in various spaces around Tel Aviv. Every few weeks, the gallery will “blink” for a week and then disappear until it reappears somewhere else in the city with a new exhibition. The venture will strengthen the relationship between art, community, and businesses.

Stephanie Tenenbaum made Aliyah from New Jersey in 2007. After two years as a Hummer instructor in the army, she has been working as a paralegal in Herzliya. She lives in Tel Aviv and enjoys running, surfing, and her dog, Oz.

Venture: To develop a group buying website selling discounted coupons for Tel Aviv businesses, a portion of whose profits will be donated to social action projects.

Abby Kolker was born in Baltimore, Maryland, but is now a proud Tel Avivian. Since university, she has worked at NGOs and human rights think tanks in Tel Avivand Buenos Aires. She is also the co-director of Camp PALS for teens with Down Syn-drome.

Kate Rosenberg grew up in Melbourne, Australia. After a few long stints in Israel and time spent in Krakow, she made Aliyah in 2008 and now lives in Tel Aviv. Kate is working toward making Israel the demo-cratic, pluralistic, and inspiring country she knows it can be.

Venture: “Tov Lada’at” will provide ho-listic support and community leadership training for African refugees and asylum seekers hoping to reach institutions of higher education in Israel.

Jesse Fox was raised in Raleigh, North Carolina and moved to Israel in his late teens. After volunteering on Kibbutzim, he went on to earn degrees from Tel Aviv Uni-versity and the Technion. Jesse has worked as a freelance journalist and blogger while volunteering with African asylum seekers. Currently, he is hoping to democratize urban planning in Tel Aviv through greater transparency. Jesse lives in Jaffa.

VENTURE: To create a more sustainable Tel Aviv-Jaffa through better urban planning. He wants to bring easily understandable information about plans and policies to the public and eventually develop these efforts into policy think tank.

Beverlyn Baer was born and raised inChicago. She attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where she majored in sociology. At the university Beverlyn participated in many community building and development volunteer projects where she saw that resources weren’t getting to poorer communities. Beverlyn holds an MA in Public Policy and Administration from the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya.

Efrat Haddad was born in Israel but grew up in several different countries. She has a B.A. in English Literature and Sociology/ Anthropology from Bar Ilan University, and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from The Hebrew University. During the last two years she has worked at the Min-istry of Health in Israel. She takes special interest in promoting and improving the health and well-being of fellow citizens, and believes that eliminating smoking and second-hand smoking is one of the top public health priorities in Israel.

John Chacksfield has worked in the UK in health services for the last 20 years. He was an occupational therapist in mental health and became a specialist in treating addictions and dual diagnosis, as well as led national interest groups in addictions and mental health. He has an MSc in Clini-cal and Public Health Aspects of Addiction from London’s Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College, University of London. Now as an international healthcare consultant, he is passionate about improving public health. He currently spends half his time in Israel and half in London, UK.

VENTURE: Efrat and John are working together to launch a quit smoking/health education/health marketing campaign in Tel Aviv, particularly targeted at parents and children.

Anat Horowitz Harel graduated from the Technion with a degree in architecture. She currently works as a regional devel-opment analyst with the Reut Institute. Previously, she worked on urban planning teams and wrote policy papers on related topics. Anat also has a rich background in informal education.

VENTURE: To expose Tel Avivians to city planning and architectural issues in daily life. At the core of the project is a city model and public exhibitions and workshops on architecture and planning.

Moran Broza was born in Israel and raised in the United States. Following a year at Rutgers University, she volunteered as a “lone soldier” in the Israeli Army where she served as a drill sergeant in basic training and an officer. She went on to travel the world, working and studying for over seven years and is now a trained chef and manager in the food and beverage industry. Venture: “Bringing Eden Back to Israel” will inspire and influence people to respect one another through respecting nature.
