In 1914, just before the commencement of the 1st World War, Alexandros Kon-stantinopoulos and Georgios Zisimatos, respectively merchant and spinner by profession, founded a company under the firm Konstantinopoulos & Zisimatos Co which focused on manufacturing and selling socks, and all kinds of knitting. Knowledgeable in the areas of production and product promotion, the company quickly developed - already in 1918 it bought the land for its headquarters. In this area were old industrial buildings of unknown use today. At company expense, the covered area was expanded to meet the needs of industry. Although the walls are made of brick of no architectural value, the wooden roof is impressive, both in its construction and quality of material, and remains intact to this day.

The company KONSTANTINOPOULOS & ZISSIMATOS Co. in 1932 bought a neigh-bouring old stone building and its surroundings (former center PRYTANEION today), which was then used as a factory .

Production and commercial business activity stopped during the Second World War, and began again with great difficulty after the end of the war.

The year 1950 it was agreed between the two parties to separate the compa-nies between movable and immovable property. During the period this separa-tion was agreed upon, the factory employed 57 permanent staff. On the premises of the old factory (built in 1918) operation of the company continued under its new name, G. ZISSIMATOS & Sons Co., which continued to evolve and change. The production of socks (cotton, mercerized, even nylon), continued until the 1960s. At that time, the business was run by the brothers Theodore and Spyridon Zisimatos, and the plant was modernized with modern looms from Germany to increase the production of quality toweling, bathrobes etc in a variety of de-signs. The products of G. ZISSIMATOS & SONS co. became known throughout the country, as evidenced by their range of clients, including customers from Evros to Crete and major hotels like the Divani-Caravel.

Until the late 1970s the company operated regularly and profitably. Unfortu-nately, with the accession of Greece to the EEC, the domestic market was flooded with similar European products of lower qualityat a lower cost. Generally, the business environment in Greece had deteriorated.

Foreseeing the impasse, Mr. Theodore Zisimatos (sole owner of G. ZISSIMATOS & Sons Co., after Spyridon Zisimatos left the company in 1983), decided in the year 1986, to close the business. The formal dissolution of the company took place in 1995.
