ABOUT THE WRITER

The writer: John Grisham John Grisham is now widely considered to be the world’s number one best-selling author. He was born in 1955 in Arkansas, in the United States. Though his family were poor, he went to Mississippi State University and later started his own law firm. He started to write in 1984 and his first book was A Time To Kill. Though this was not successful at first, he sold his next book, The Firm, for $200,000 and the firm rights for $600,000.

He gave up his law practice immediately. He now owns a large farm in Mississippi, where he lives with his wife and tow children in a specially built Victorian-style house.

The Pelican Brief is John Grisham’s third novel and a number one best-seller throughout the world. In its first year on sale over five million copies were printed in the United States.

THE MAIN POINTS

The story begins that two judges who worked in the Supreme Court were killed by a professional killer. Darby Shaw who is a young law student investigates the murder. Then she writes a brief called The Pelican Brief with what she found. What she knows is enough to frighten “someone” badly. Enough to make them want to kill her. After her boyfriend Thomas was killed by a explosion. She begins to hide.

First, she called Garvin who is a person has seen the brief. He trusts her and wants to protect her. But she doesn’t believe him, and keeps moving. She stops her cards and withdraws most of her money. She is frightened to death. There are so many people want to find her, and both of them are FBI and killers. She can’t distinguish who is enemy. So what she should do just hide.

Because the crafty murderer had hid microphones in Gavin’s phone, they had Khamel kill Gavin and pretend him to meet with Darby. Thanks to the man who CIA had go to protect Darby, Khamel was finally killed. With being killed anytime, Darby realized she would tell what she knew as soon as possible. She chose Gray, the most famous reporter, to tell the Pelican Brief: Victor Mattiece wanted to get an oilfield worth thousands of millions of dollars, which was also home to a great many rare birds, including pelicans, so an environmental group managed to take the case all the way to the Supreme Court.

Escaping

Mattiece was so rich and crazy that he did by hook or by crook to own the oilfield; hence, he had killer assassinate Rosenberg and Jensen who were very likely to be opposite to the case. And then Darby and Gray searched for evidence and escaped from being killed together. Eventually, they succeeded and became lovers.
