Dean’s Notes
Inspiration can be a powerful stimulus to purpose of mind, but it requires time for this purpose to grow. In music, inspiration is the key to creating, in various forms, new works. This is fundamentally different from other fields of study, which depend on knowledge from textbooks. If inspiration is missing, music students will not be absorbed by their studies and their creative work will lack both dreams and ambition. Inspiration can be a major driving force in music education, an important stimulus to artistic development in both concrete work and abstract thinking. It can raise one’s aesthetic and intellectual level, enhancing the creative spirit. The potential of higher music education cannot be fulfilled with only textbook learning. Textbook learning must be integrated with experience in an environment that will enhance and encourage inspiration. In this way, the true spirit of the art of music can be achieved.

INTO THE WOODSTHE MUSICALWhat happens after Happily Ever After? Into the Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine This beloved musical retelling of the Grimm classics, a parade of familiar folktale figures find their way “Into the Woods” and try to get home before dark.
The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.
The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but what will become the consequences of their actions?
Into the Woods will be performed with live orchestra.
