Toyo’s Resist-Dezincification Alloy (ASTM B21-C47940)

The Toyo Bronze Valve is a patented product that completely eliminates corrosion problems due to dezincification in highly
corrosive cold or hot water supply piping as well as PVC, polyethylene and copper pipe lines.
Toyo’s resist-dezincification alloy has passed corrosion tests under Australian (AS 1056-1972), Soviet and international (ISO 6509) standards. Its superior resis-
dezincifying properties are demonstrated in the photos shown here. Photo 1 shows the cross section of a broken brass valve stem which become brittle due to
dezincification (dezincified portions are discolored). Photo 2 shows a microscopic view (x 100) of this dezincified portion; the gray sections indicate the zinc-
meltout beta layer. Photo 3, a microscopic picture (x 200) of the Toyo’s resist-dezincification alloy, clearly indicates that the alloy consists of a mono-crystalline,

General Design Specifications
�� !"#$1. Castings��ASTM B62, or so-called 85-5-5-5, is used in class 150 and lower, and high-
grade bronze of BS1400LG2.

2. Markings��The manufacturing trademark, the primary pressure (steam or cold water, oil
and gas ratings) and the legible mark of the sizes are embossed on each valve
body in conformity with the standard marking requirements of MSS SP-25.
Toyo’s bronze valves are distributed under the and RED-WHITE Brand
names all over the world.

3. End connections��End threads are constructed to meet the standard specifications most com-
monly used for various purposes, such as the American National Standard for
taper pipe threads (ANSI B2.1), known as NPT threads, British Standard taper
pipe threads (BS 21), and Deutsche Normen parallel pipe threads (DIN 259).
Solder ends conform with ANSI BS Standard for solder joint fitting
Flanged ends, including end flange dimensions and drilling, are in accordance

4. Testing��Every valve is individually tested by hydrostatic or air shell and seat tests for
casting soundness and tight closure as specified in BS5154, MSS Standard SP-
80 and JIS specifications.

5. Packing��Valves are individually bagged in sealed vinyl film in order to protect them
from dust and dirt, and packed in strong carton boxes in order to prevent

4. Markings and Identification Plates��Markings embossed on each valve body conform to the standard marking re-
quirements of MSS SP-25.
Each valve is also provided with an identification plate which indicates figure
number, size, service pressure rating, the manufacturer’s trademark, trim and
body materials and other necessary information.

Handling Precautions
3. InstallationInstall the valves so that the pipes are in a straight line, lightly fasten the
bolts on the lower part of the flange by hand, and insert the gaskets on
which lubricant (gasket paste) has been applied. The bolts on the bottom
determine and maintain the position. Attach the remaining bolts in the same
way and use sockets or wrenches of the correct size to tighten them.

5. FlushingOnce pipe installation is completed, open all valves completely and flush
the piping with air, water or steam. After flushing, close the valves com-
pletely and check that they function properly. If the valves do not close,
disassembly and inspection should be performed.

2. CenteringSupport the piping and pipe shafts so they are in a straight line. More pre-
cise centering is ncecssary for wafer type valves.

1. CleaningForeign substances such as sand, mud, scale, or molten spatter in the valve
will hamper operation and damage valve parts. Clean the interior of the
pipes with air, water or steam as necessary.

4. Bolt-Tightening ProceduresTighten the bolts using the “crossover” method. Do so repeatedly and in
order until the nuts are completely secure.

Cv ValuesThe Cv value - which is used by TOYO VALVE to indicate the capacity of a valve - is flow rate
represented in terms of U.S. gallons per minute when clear water at 60˚F (15.6˚C) flows through
a valve, while the difference in pressure between its outlet and inlet is kept at 1 Psig (0.07kgf/
cm2). The Cv value can be determined by experiment, and the relation between the Cv value and
the flow rate or pressure drop, when the fluid is water, is given by the following formula.
