Brief HistoryNamed after Monte Jade, the highest mountain in Taiwan, the Monte Jade Science
and Technology Association was founded by a group of high-tech Chinese-American
executives in Silicon Valley, California in February 1990. The organization, subsequently
known as Monte Jade West Coast, became a model for other regional chapters bearing
the name ‘Monte Jade’, including Southeastern United States, formed in Atlanta, Georgia
on January 16, 1993.

緣起玉山科技協會是以臺灣最高峯「玉山」而命名，取其高瞻遠矚，源遠流長，光明皎潔和科
技崇高之意。這個協會，是由華裔科技專業人才和相關廠商鑑於產業科技瞬息萬變，廠商
間競爭激烈，亟需匯集華人力量，因而聯手創立本會，致力於聯合科技企業，以加速華裔
在科技實業上的創造和發展。第一個玉山協會於一九九〇年二月在矽谷創立，期藉由互助
合作的關係，彼此能交換資訊，拓展商業機會，共策前程。目前已有八個玉山協會組成，
遍佈北美各地，並且組成了聯會，以推動科技、資金、資訊和市場的整合來協助華裔進行
科技創業和投資。本地區的美東南玉山科技協會於一九九三年一月於亞特蘭大成立。

Dear Monte Jade Members, Guests, and Friends, On behalf of the Monte Jade Science and Technology Association Southeastern (MJSTASE) Chapter, I would like to thank all of you for attending the 21st MJSTASE Annual Conference and Youth Achievement Award ceremony. As you know, the conference theme this year is “Innovation, Entrepreneurship, to Win-Win”. We are very grateful and honored for the five outstanding business executives who shared their successful experiences with us during this year’s symposium. The Monte Jade Science & Technology Association is a non-profit organization established in by a group of high-tech Chinese-American executives in the Silicon Valley in 1990. MJSTASE is one of seventeen worldwide chapters of Global Monte Jade. Over the last 21 years, MJSTASE has kept the excellent tradition of promoting updated science and technology to Chinese communities in the Southeastern region. In 2013, MJSTASE has organized several science and technology events for the community including PC Clinic, ‘Big Data and Business Analytics’ Seminar, and ‘Inside Story of Influenza’ Seminar. Additionally, MJSTASE organized social events for general members and friends such as the Spring Cookout Party and MJ Annual Golf Outing. We also co-sponsored several events with other Chinese Community Associations this year. All the events were very successful and memorable. The Youths are our future. As in the past, MJSTASE organized a ‘College Application’ Seminar for high school students in metro-Atlanta area in September and we kicked off the MJ Youth Achievement Award program in August. Many outstanding high school students applied for this award. After a fair and thorough selection process, the Selection Committee chose 14 winners. We would like to congratulate all the winners and their parents. We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to those key MJ Foundation sponsors: Hsu Family Foundation, Georgia Power, IronCad, and Mr. Li K. Wang. With their generosity, we are able to excel in both quality and quantity of awards this year. We are in the process of planning the first ‘MJ Young Professional Holiday Party’ which will be held at St. Ives Country Club on 12/26/2013. We are inviting past MJ Youth Achievement Award winners to have a reunion during the holidays. More details will be announced at a later date. Time flies when you are having fun! Less than two months are left for my term. I would like to take thisopportunity to heartily thank those Board members, Operating Committee members, and Advisors, who have supported MJSTASE and our initiatives throughout the year. Without their willingness and commitment to serve MJSTSE, our job would be mission impossible. We deeply appreciate their support and have enjoyed working with each of them. Last but not least, we would like to thank all the speakers, sponsors, and guests who supported this year’sAnnual Conference. Without them, this conference would not have been successful and memorable.

Dear Monte Jade Members, Guests, and Friends,
On behalf of the MJSTA Scholarship Foundation of Southeastern Region, Inc., I would like to thank you for your continued support and generous contributions to the MJSTASE Youth Achievement Awards throughout the past years. Without your help, this event would not be possible.
The Foundation’s mission is not only sponsoring the Youth Achievement Award, but also creating internship programs for high school and college students during the summer break. The Foundation is also looking into the feasibility of helping the MJSTASE to have mentoring programs for young entrepreneurs in the Southeast region.
Thanks to the coordination by Monte Jade Chairman Dr. Bin Chung, Monte Jade advisors and board members, there will be a holiday party for all Youth Award winners this year. We hope this party will become a yearly tradition for all upcoming Youth Award winners.
The Board has the responsibility of selecting winners for the Youth Achievement Award based on the established criteria needed to choose the best students from within the Chinese community. Again, thank you so much for all your support; we hope that such commitment will continue on for future years to come. Continuing funding will not only allow the Board to increase the award amounts, but also to select more Award winners.
The Foundation was founded and granted a 501(C) (3) Tax Exempt Status by the IRS in 2008. Such an achievement allows for the award contributors to acquire tax benefits. Therefore, all donations will be tax deductible and will benefit the community.

Eric Wong Managing Director, Blue Ridge Capital
Douglas R. Hooker Director, Atlanta Regional Commission
Douglas Hooker is the executive director of the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), the official planning organization for the 10-county, 70-city Atlanta region.
Doug has worked for public sector and private sector organizations, among them: the City of Atlanta’s Department of Public Works (where he led the agency through the 1996 Olympic Games), the State Road & Tollway Authority (SRTA), Georgia Power, Bio-Lab, Inc., and Atkins Engineering. He is also deeply involved in the community. He serves on numerous boards, including, the Civic League for Regional Atlanta, the Council for Quality Growth, CHRIS Kids, and The Atlanta Opera. He was also appointed by Gov. Roy Barnes to serve on the inaugural board of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District.
Doug holds a BS of Mechanical Engineering and a MS in Technology & Science Policy from Georgia Tech, as well as an MBA from Emory University. He is also a graduate of Leadership Atlanta, Leadership Georgia, the Regional Leadership Institute, and the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership.

Based in Beijing and New York, Eric Wong is Managing Director at Blue Ridge Capital, where he is responsible for seeking and managing investments on behalf of the global investment fund. Prior to this, Eric advised multinationals on mergers-and-acquisitions in China with Morgan Stanley. He has also authored Harvard Business School case studies on emerging markets investing.
Outside of investments, Eric has advised the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Junior Achievement China on strategic projects. He currently serves as a Founding Board Member of Bard College Conservatory of Music. As a cellist, Eric has served as Principal Cellist of the Beijing International Chamber Orchestra and also had opportunities to perform in Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall.
In 2012, he was selected as an Asia 21 Fellow by the Asia Society’s Young Leaders Program. As an MJSTASE Youth Award recipient from 1994, Eric is honored to have the opportunity to share his experiences with the new award recipients. Eric holds an AB and an MBA from Harvard.

臧伯駿先生於2010年五月頤享百年，其外孫玉山科技協會前
理事長徐凱，感念外祖父一生之中不計自身處境，極力奉獻社會、樂善好施、掖助後進晚學，
為承續先人懿德而創設臧伯駿伉儷傑出青年獎學金，勉勵勤學之華裔學子。
臧伯駿先生山東濟寧縣人，幼年家境清苦自學而成，畢業於中央軍校，熱愛國家，曾參加
抗日戰爭轉戰南北，政府遷台後轉任公務員，服務於台灣省煙酒公賣局，一生清廉自律、樂善
好施、愛護部屬，深得部屬敬仰。夫人孫健彬女士情性賢淑、相夫教子、勤儉持家、敦親睦
鄰，年青時曾服務於青島聖功小學，遷台後專心照顧家庭，深得鄰里稱讚。伯駿先生育有三女
二男，全靠微薄薪資和夫人兼做副業維持家用並讓子女受到良好教育，其夫人之功德不可沒。
臧伯駿伉儷傑出青年獎學金
The Po Chun and Chien Pin Tsang Scholarship was established in this inaugural year of 2010 to commemorate the life of Mr. Po Chun Tsang. The scholarship was established by his grandson and former Monte Jade chairman, Kai Hsu, to continue the legacy of his grandfather’s humanitarian efforts.
Born in 1917, Mr. Tsang was a loving husband, father of five children and ten grandchildren, distinguished military officer, tireless civil servant and humble humanitarian. His life was marked by continued service to others, and always putting the needs of his colleagues, friends and family above his own. It is in this spirit that the Po Chun and Chien Pin Tsang Scholarship was created to promote these ideals in young Chinese-Americans.

Symposium Speakers
Dr. Lee-Cheng (L-C) Liu CEO, EirGenix (台康生技公司)
Dr. Liu has 30 years of product, process development and
manufacturing experience in biotech, pharmaceutical
and specialty chemical industries. Prior to returning
Taiwan to start up EirGenix, Dr. Liu was the President
and COO of AnGes Inc., a late developmental stage
biotech enterprise. He joined AnGes in 2002 as a Vice
President of Product Management. He also served as
a Vice Chairman in the Supervisory Board of Avontec
GmbH, a Munich based joint venture with AnGes, from
2004 to 2010. Before his tenure with AnGes, he served
various management and professional positions to lead
product/process development at GenVec, Novartis,
W.R.Grace & Co. and Halcon SD. Dr Liu hold a doctorial
degree in Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry
from Columbia University, and a BS degree in Chemical
Engineering from National Taiwan University.
Dr. Y. C. L. Susan Wu Chairman, ERC
Dr. Y. C. L. Susan Wu is the founder of ERC (www.erc-incorporated.com) of Huntsville, Alabama and currently serves as its Chairman. ERC is an engineering and scientific services firm in the aerospace and defenses arena. Prior to establishing ERC in 1988, Dr. Wu was professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) and responsible of the large MHD (Magnetohydrodynamic) Power Conversion Programs with over 100 staff members.
She is a world-renowned expert in MHD Power Generation and has published broadly on this topic. She has won many awards including the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award from Caltech (http://connect.caltech.edu/y-c-l-susan-wu-phd-63-ae); the prestigious Faraday Medal for MHD Power Generation in 1999; the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Plasma Dynamics and Laser Award in 1994. In 1986 she received the Distinguished Achievement Award of Chinese Engineers, U. S. A.; Dr. Wu received the SWE Achievement Award in 1985 – the highest honor bestowed by the Society of Women Engineers. She received the Outstanding Educators of America Awards in 1973 and 1975; the first 3-time winner (1958, 1959 and 1962) of the Amelia Earhart Fellowships.
Dr. Wu received her B. S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Taiwan University; M. S. degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Ohio State University; and Ph. D. from Caltech (California Institute of Technology) and was the first female Ph. D. in the Aerospace program there.

Dr. Tsai was the founder of the first Chinese American Corporation in the State of Alabama in 1987. Dr. Tsai was also a founder and Chairman of the Board of Global Commerce Bank in Atlanta, Georgia. He is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Regitar U.S.A., Inc, a manufacturer, importer/exporter of auto parts and power tools.
Named an Outstanding Young Man of America in 1989 and an Outstanding Young Man of Overseas Chinese in 1991, Dr. Tsai earned his bachelor’s degree of Law and Business Administration in 1976 from National Chen-Chi University, Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China.
After completing military service from 1976-1978, he served as general manager of Stone Wall Industry Co, Ltd. He received his Master of Business Administration from Eastern New Mexico University in December 1980, and then received his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from University of Texas at Austin in May 1987.
Dr. Tsai served as Assistant Professor at Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama between 1985 and 1991. Dr. Tsai is an active member of many professional organizations including Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission Advisor, International Advisory Board member at the College of Commerce and Business Administration at the University of Alabama, a member of Auburn University at Montgomery Executive Advisory Board of Director and a member of Auburn University Research Advisory Board.
Dr. Tsai was the President of the Central Alabama Association for Chinese (CAAC) in 1987, and has served as an advisor since 1988. He received the Friend of Foreign Service Medal from Taiwan, Republic of China in 2005, and is the recipient of the 2004 and 2005 Ronald Reagan Republican Gold Medals. In 2006, Dr. Tsai received the Alabama Businessman of the Year award from the National Republican Congressional Committee. In July 2007, Dr. Tsai was the recipient of the 2007 Who’s Who in Asian American Communities (WWAAC) Honoree. In August 2007, 2008 and 2009, Regitar U.S.A., Inc. has been recognized by Inc. 500/5000 as one of the fastest growing companies in America, ranking number 58 in the Top Companies in the Computers & Electronics industry.

【 挑戰全球病毒的顯微偵探 】
走進謝醫師的書房，書架上包羅萬象的書籍，
其中數以百冊的國家地理雜誌最為吸晴。雖然專攻
生物醫學，業餘時廣涉文學史地社會科學，造就了
這位病理學專家的多元興趣及人文素養。
在美國聯邦疾病疾病管制局（CDC）擔任醫官
（Medical Officer），一待就是廿年。站在捍衛人
類健康的第一線，每當全球任何一地爆發傳染病疫
情，謝文儒立即趕到疫區最前線，在最短的時間內
尋找發病的原因，避免疫情擴大。工作危險度高，
極具挑戰性。「只要事先做好防護工作，保護好自
己，被感染的機會並不高」，謝文儒以十分自信的
口吻談及自己的工作。「就好比打仗，我們的敵人
是病毒，找出對付的方法，防止擴散，就是我們的
任務。有時又好比警探，把握各種証據，組織研
判，精準地抓出元凶，也就是病毒。」
謝文儒實地參與調查的疫情非常多，包括1997年獅子山共和國發生的拉薩出血熱、1998年台灣
腸病毒71型、2001年佛州與康乃狄克州吸入性炭疽
病、2003年越南與台灣的嚴重急性呼吸道症候群
（SARS，或稱非典）、2004年佛羅里達州的狂牛
病、2007年德州邊境監獄的腦炎等等。
出自醫生世家，也是三代單傳。謝文儒選擇可
以拯救大衆甚至全世界的病理診斷，放棄較為安定
的臨床醫療工作。「醫生的對象是單一病人，我的
工作更具挑戰性，對象是全人類。」
出任務時，分秒必爭，經常不眠不休，壓力極
大。謝文儒個性外向，喜歡旅行、看電影、看書等
心靈鍛鍊，以舒解工作帶來的壓力。他自小隨父親
學習劍道，本身有劍道四段，也練就他對工作的韌
性及抗壓性。
他提醒想入行學醫的青年學子，學醫是一輩子
的路，一定要確認自己的興趣及方向，無論是臨床
或走研究路線，只要努力，都有回報。
謝醫生加入美東南區玉山科技協會未滿一年，
曾擔任玉山講座「談流感那些事兒」主講人，並期
許日後能多為玉山效力。

畢業於台北醫學院，曾任台灣國泰綜合醫院內科總醫師與感染症專科醫生。來美後，在哈佛大學取得公共衛生碩士學位，以及 Vanderbilt 大學醫學院微生物免疫學博士，並在 Vanderbilt 醫學中心完成臨床病理和解剖病理的住院醫師訓練。育有二子一女，與夫人鄭佩周女士現居亞特蘭大。

【把握方向，自信的往前走】
女強人三個字，不太容易與金白雪連在一
起。她總是温和地微笑，不卑不慍與人交談。
但是在職場上，專注、認真，對公司的經營有
清楚的想法及堅持。
來自中國北京，大陸開放之初來到美國，
在喬治亞大學習得電腦學位後即進入職場。從
基層幹起，憑著超人的毅力及智慧，很快進階
到管理八十餘人的高層主管。二OO一年的一次
機會中與人合創 IronCAD, 負責開發及銷售
工程設計不可缺的電子設計軟件 IronCAD。至
今巿場遍及歐洲、日本、韓國及印度，更準備
進軍東歐、東南亞及俄羅斯。她更成功地與中
國知名的軟體設計公司數碼大方（CAXA）合
作。不但受到中國政府的重視，也為中國未來
的「智造」提供概念及方向。
做為公司的負責人，金白雪相當重視員
工。IronCad 的員工都有股份，大家一塊打
拼，創造更大的機會，這也是公司能吸引人才
的主因之一。
也是台灣媳婦。八零年代大陸與台灣通婚
的例子不多，與夫婿董曜瑜的結合也有波折。
她第一次到台灣彰化婆家時，竟有派出所派員
關懷，當時的心情至今難忘。
雖然今年才入玉山理事會，金白雪與玉山
的淵源深厚。董曜瑜曾任美東南玉山科技協會
第四任理事長，對玉山，她是情有獨鍾。
一提起夫婿董曜瑜和一雙兒女，金白雪眼
神就泛起光彩。瞬間從公司執行長又回到賢妻
良母的身分。

出生台中梧棲的鄉下小孩王德，廿二歲自
明志工專畢業以後，就有了創業的經驗。而後
於一九八九年在美創立 Color Imaging 公司，
以研發及生產印表機及複印機的碳粉為主要業
務。如今銷售版圖橫跨全球五十餘國，員工超
過一百人，年營業額逾千萬，是全世界最大的
碳粉供應商之一。
王德非常懂得用人。雖名為總裁，手下有
個高效率的執行團隊，王德的主要任務是「腦
力激盪」研發新產品、新配方、新技術，在競
爭激烈的環境中不斷擴張業務。更重要的是新
產品技術專利的維護。
王德講究喝茶。在座落於 Norcross 的辦公
大樓，王德擁有十分寛敞的辦公室及一間專用
會議室和一套專門泡茶的工具。許多新點子都
是在茶葉的淸香中催生的。為了環保，王德想
出回收碳粉盒的設計，獲得客戶熱烈迴響，是
王博士引以為傲的創新。
心向台灣。王德的願景是擴展公司全球業
務，提供台灣大學生到世界各地 Color Imaging 分公司實習的機會，瞭解各地語言文化及商
機，提昇國際視野，為帶動臺灣經濟的全球化
努力。
在亞特蘭大僑界，大家對王德是熟悉的。
他曾任僑務委員，台灣商會會長等要職。二千
年加入玉山科技協會，二OO三年出任理事長，
支援多項玉山活動。他希望今年的玉山能整合
過去的青年獎得主，提供一個交流的平台，延
續華裔傳承進而回饋社會。
家庭，一直是王德的重心。四個子女是他
的驕傲。今年春天，牽手卅餘年的妻子病逝，
王德擦乾眼淚，毅然負起父兼母職的重任。

Kai Hsu was born in Taiwan and came to United States when he was four years old. At his upcoming new office campus on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, he talked about his entrepreneurial experience and vision using fluent Mandarin Chinese.
In 2004, he joined HotSauce Technologies which is a software company specializing in restaurant operations management. Currently, it has about 50 employees and 3500 customers most in the US. As the CEO, Kai Hsu is well liked by his employees because of his energetic, passionate, and amiable nature. For his customers, he has been able to identify emerging market trends and provide them with the most advanced software so that the restaurants can deliver high quality and efficient services to their clients. He hopes with HotSauce’s software, many more restaurants will be able to transition from the traditional family-style operations to the commercial-quality operations.
Kai Hsu said he is honored to be a Chinese American, and he is also proud of Chinese culture. In today’s global world, he said there is no need to overzealously chase American culture. Keeping one’s own heritage is more deserving of respect.
His connection to the Monte Jade started in year 2000. Kai took the advantage of attending a Young Monte Jade event in Taiwan. Through campus visitations and group-building
interactions, he confirmed his entrepreneurial ambition. So when the HotSauce Technologies’ opportunity arose in 2004, he jumped on it.
Two years ago, Kai’s grandfather passed away. In memory of his personal idol, Kai set up the Po Chun and Chien Pin Tsang Scholarship through Monte Jade to award exemplary Monte Jade youths in need. He hopes to expand the scholarship program to all Atlanta Chinese communities.
