Thank you for your commitment and allthat was accomplished in 2014. We havestarted the 2015 year with a calendar full ofevents. I would like to say welcome andthank you to all of the new officers for yourwillingness to be in service and to serve.

Local Officers Training will be held January24, 2015 at Quinby United MethodistChurch, Quinby, South Carolina. We lookforward to seeing all of the new officers aswell as past officers at training. It is especially

important that all presidents and treasurersbe in attendance.

This issue of the Flame has a number of im-portant forms that you will need to share withthe ladies in your units or other interestedpersons. Please ensure that everyone knowsabout all local and conference upcomingevents.

I am your Social Action Coordinatorand I am wishing you all a safe andhappy holiday season. As SocialAction Coordinator, I will help tomake you aware of injustice prac-tices and issues that concernwomen, children, and youth; andthere are many. The District haschosen three goals and they are asfollows: Domestic Violence, Read-ing to our preschool and elemen-tary level students, and HumanTrafficking.

A new year has begun; let us make2015 a year of ACTION. This will

start with ourOfficers Train-ing on January24, 2015.Please make anote of this dateand make plans toattend. The FlorenceDistrict can not be effec-tive without you, we needeach other.

s of December 1st I joined a wonderfulgroup of women as one of your past presi-dents! It has been an invigorating, challeng-ing, rewarding and exciting 4 years and thetime has flown by. I have grown both men-tally and spiritually and feel a deeper rela-tionship with myLord and Savior,Jesus Christ. It isimpossible to tellyou how muchyour love andsupport hasmeant to me. Ihave been hon-ored be-yondwords to serve asyour presidentand certainlyhope that I havefulfilled my dutiesto you and toGod in the bestpossible way. Asthe President ofthe South Car-olina Conferenceof United Methodist Women, I served onseveral South Carolina Annual ConferenceCommittees as your representative. I learnedso much about the wider Church and aboutthe relationship between Clergy and Laityand about how the “Church” is NOT abuilding, but we are ALL the Church; theBride of Christ. I have learned that I witnessto Christ and the wonderful message of sal-vation every day of my life by how I live outmy conviction. I have learned that being aleader in Christ’s image means serving and Ihave enjoyed the opportunities to servealong with you. The Mission trips, the fel-lowship meals, the invitations to speak atyour churches and in your Districts have allhelped me to grow and I am deeply grateful

for the having been given the opportunity toserve as your President.So now I pledge to you that I will follow inthe steps of the other Past Presidents and willcontinue to be active in United MethodistWomen. I expect to see you at Legislative

Day, at SpiritualGrowth Re-treat, atCome Together/BeTogether, at Missionu and at AnnualConference. I thinkour system oftenure is a goodone and we arestronger by beingable to adapt to dif-ferent leadershipstyles and differentopportunities forgrowth. I know thatyou will be activein your support ofthe incoming Mis-sion Team. Pleasegive all of the newteam your love and

encouragement. Be active at all levels ofUMW. We are only as strong as our weakestlink. I know that Marlene will be a wonder-ful President and we are extremely fortunateto have a woman of her caliber to lead us.
