Elijah is one of the major prophets of the Old Testament and has a significant place amongst the rank of saints in Armenian and Eastern churches, hence he is commemorated on the Sunday following the PentecostCentury BC during the rule of King Ahab and his wife Queen Jezabel.

Then God commanded Elijah to go away and stay in KerithRavine, where he was fed by ravens and drank from the brook until it dried out. Elijah appeared before Ahab three years later and prayed to Almighty to send down fire for his sacrifice and heavy rain to end the three year long

drought. It is also told, that thanks to the divine grace the Prophet Elijah helped the widow in Zarephath making so that her bowl wouldn’t run out of flour and her jar wouldn’t run of oil, also restored the widow’s dead sun to life.the Grace of God was taken to heaven (2 Kings 2:11). In the New Testament he appears with Moses at the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Գրիգոր Լուսաւորիչը 40 կոյսերու յայտնուիլը եւ տարածուի ամբողջ շրջանի կը ցանկանայ զայն բռնութեամբ իր կինը դարձնել: Սակայն քրիստոնեայ կոյսը հաւատարիմ կը մնայհաղթանդամ արքային: Մերժուած աթ. իր 32 ընկերուհիներուն օրը Գայանէ, երկու կոյսերուերանելիներուն: Վիրապէն նոր ելած Սյանձնէ 9 օր անթաղ մնացած անոնց սուրբ նշխարանուշահոտութիւն կը բուրէին, եւ անոնկառուցուի երեք վկայարան. Առաջինը` Սերկրորդը` Ս. Գայիանէին, եւ երրորդը` հնձանի մէջ` ուր հիւանդութեան պատճառով մնաց կոյսերէն մէկոյսի անունը չէ գրառած, բայցնոյն հնձանին մէջ Լուսաւորիչը տեսաւ իր«կաթեցինէ Տիրոջ լոյսի շողերը, եւ իջաւվկայարանը ստացաւ Ս. Enraged, the king had Hripsime (and the other nuns) imprisoned and tortured them to death in Gregory from the pit. When Gregory was released from hisin Khor Virab, he collected and buried the scattered remains of holy nuns. He built chapels over their relics. The first was on the tomb of St. Hripsime, the second on that of St. Gayane and third on the tomb of the Virgin who was martyred in the wineThe church dedicated to Saint Hripsime, considered to be an architectural masterpiece. Catholicos Gomidas also wrote hymn 'Antsink Nviryalk' (Dedicated Beings) Historian Agatangeghos did nthe winepress, but it is believed to be Marianewinepress and was martyed there, not with the rest of nuns. Gregory the Illuminator had his vision,from heavens. That is why Mariane’s shrine was named St. Shoghakat. All three churches are located in the city of Etchmiadzin, Armenia, not far from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
