2 Morphology

The oval-shaped(椭圆的 ) egg of Ancylostoma caninum65μm×37μm, obtuse（钝的） in the ends, colourless and translucent（半透明的） .

The egg of 4-cell stage

If the sample was placed for a long time, the egg of 4-cell stage will change into 8-cells stage or mulberry-shaped(桑葚状 ).

Three Routes

• Transcolostral: Infected bitch nurse offspring the larvae

• Infection through ingestion:gut wall circulation liver heart lung alveoli coughed up and swallowed small intestine

• Infection through the skin:skin circulation heart lung alveoli coughed up and swallowed small intestine

4 Epidemiology

Ancylostoma caninum is one of the most common parasites in dogs and is widespread in the world.

Routes of infection: peroral infection( 经口传染 ) 、 by the skin(经皮肤 ) 、 via the placental(通过胎盘 ) or colostrum (初乳 )

This disease occurs most in summer.

5 Signs or Symptoms

1.Acute type:

emaciation(消瘦 ) 、 pale mucosa(黏膜苍白 ) 、 decreased appetite(食欲减退 ) 、 vomiting(呕吐 ) 、 gastricism(消化障碍 ) 、 diarrhea(下痢 ) 、 constipation(便秘 ) 、 bloody stool (粪便带血 ) 、 anaemia(贫血 )

2.Chronic type:light anaemia 、 malnutrition(营养不良 ) 、 gastrointestinal dysfunction(胃肠功能紊乱 )3.Uncinarial dermatitis(钩虫性皮炎 )

Hemorrhage(出血 ) 、 ulcer on intestinal mucosa

Dermatitis(皮炎 )

Pneumorrhagia(肺出血 ) and pneumonia(肺炎 )

8 Control1. The treatment of the dogs and cats

Drug of choice is dimphenol(二碘硝基酚 ).

Other effective drugs include

levamisole (左旋咪唑 ), albendazole(丙硫咪唑 ),

ivermectin(伊维菌素 ).

2. Comprehensive prevention (1) Treating sick dogs and cats in time and avoid feeding dogs and cats with raw foods. (2) Keep the dogtery(犬舍 ) dry, feces management（粪便处理 ), Kill eggs by boiling water and solarization. (3) Deratization(灭鼠 ).
