1. 드럼이란?
; 음악에 있어서의 기본적인 틀, 즉 rhythm을 만든다.
2. 드럼의 각부명칭
Bass Drum 드럼 중 가장 낮은 음 “쿵”하는 소리. Rhythm 에서 ‘강’박 역할. Snare Drum 밑에 면에 snappy 라는 쇠줄이 달린 작은북. Rhythm 에서 ‘약’박 역할.
Hi-Hat Rhythm 을 이끌어 나가는 역할. 두 장의 심벌이 위 아래로 겹쳐있음. 발 페달로 open 또는 close 시켜서 사용함.
Tom Tom Bass Drum 과 Snare Drum 사이의 음역대를 가지는 드럼. Fill-in 시 사용.
Cymbal a. Ride – Hi-Hat 과 비슷한 역할로 리듬을 이끌어 나간다. b. Crash – 보통 Bass Drum 과 함께 쓰여 리듬에 악센트를 줄 때 사용.

3. Metronome(박자계)
; Rhythm의 빠르기를 정하는 기준을 나타내는 박자측정기.

4. Grip – Stick을 쥐는 방법
; Regular grip, Matched grip등이 있다. 그러나 각각의 grip 또한 drummer 마다 다르다.
☞ Stick을 쥐어봅시다
a. Stick의 전체길이의 ⅓지점을 선택한다. (⅓지점이 Bounce가 가장 좋은 지점)
b. 검지의 첫 번째 마디와 엄지 손가락으로 ⅓지점을 아래의 그림(a)와 같이 잡는다.
(실제 Stick을 잡는 손가락은 엄지와 검지이다)
c. 나머지 손가락은 그림(b)와 같이 손가락을 Stick 위에 살짝 얹어 놓는다.
(나머지 손가락은 Stick이 움직일 때 자연스럽게 같이 움직인다)
d. 그림(c)와 같이 Stick을 쥔 손에 공간을 만든다. (Stick을 가볍게 쥐도록 함)
e. 그림(d)와 같이 손등을 하늘로 보도록 위치한다. (손목이 자연스럽게 상하로 움직이도록)
f. 어깨와 팔에 힘을 빼고 자연스럽게 그림(d)와 같이 자세를 잡는다.

☞ 자세잡기
a. <4-Grip> 에서와 같은 방법으로 Stick을 잡는다.
b. 허리를 굽히지 않고 똑바로 세운다.
c. 팔과 몸 사이에 주먹 하나 정도의 거리를 둔다.
d. 어깨와 팔꿈치에 힘을 주지 말고 자연스럽게 만든다.
☞ 4 beats 연습 – 한 박자에 오른발 왼발도 동시에 밟으며 연습한다.
