As technology continues to develop, people are changing the way they pay for things. Many of us have a cash card or a credit card, but more and more people carry a cashless card--a computerized "smart card." These lucky people never have to look for money, or cart around a heavy wallet full of coins. With these cards we are one step closer to a more convenient and cashless society. The idea behind cashless cards is to get rid of small change and to save time. Many American and British students use these cards to buy food or drinks at college cafeterias and even to ride buses. These cards also act as ID cards. Students use the cards to access buildings and computer files, or check out books from the library. College cafeteria staff say the cards have reduced waiting times at checkouts on campus. Users can put money from their bank accounts onto smart cards at special machines on or around campus. There is one big problem with smart cards. If an owner loses his or her smart card, the cash that stored on it can be used by whoever finds it. However, to protect the user, most cards have the owner's photograph on them.

的 31.aWhat is the main idea of this reading?

A major earthquake off Japan's northeast coast sets off a tsunami that brings about a nuclear crisis. Three serious disasters struck at once, leading to many issues for Japan at home as well as other countries in the world. For example, within one week of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, an American automaker temporarily closed a plant because it couldn't make vehicles without vital Japanese parts. Worries emerged that customers would have to wait even longer for the eagerly-awaited iPad 2 because Apple gets much of its memory from Japanese companies. South Korean shipbuilders that bought steel from Japan were left racing to find new sources. Another example is the meat shortages in Japan. The problem was that ships filled with American meat had to wait in the ocean close to Japan because with the unreliable electricity after the earthquake, the meat couldn't be kept frozen and would rot. The effects of the disaster are making companies all over the world rethink the way they navigate the global supply chain. As Thomas Friedman described in his book The World is Flat, today we are all interconnected. The case has proved that in the age of globalization, problems in one area of the globe can affect all others. The global supply chain is often compared to the human body. They're both complex

systems that are able to bounce back from major problems. Sometimes, however, they can be brought to their knees. In the human body, one burst blood vessel in the brain can mean a nonfunctioning body. A disaster somewhere in the world can mean supply disruption worldwide. Just as a person who has suffered a minor stroke changes his diet, companies around the world are taking another look at their business models due to the Japanese earthquake. Before, they wanted to keep stocks low to save money, but as production stops because needed parts aren't available, they're placing more importance on avoiding risk. Companies that depended on Japan's high-quality standards are also learning that they may need to develop the same production lines elsewhere. The Japanese earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear crisis have presented a great challenge to supply chain managers. In addition, the disaster arrived when the troubled world economy was finally picking up steam. As with the uncertain impact of the radiation released from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, only time will tell if this turns out to be a bump on the road to recovery or a turning point that sends the world back into economic crisis.

的 36.aWhat is the main idea of this article?

(A) Today, disruption in the supply chain can have worldwide influence.

(B) A global supply chain that is running properly isn’t that important as people thought it to be.

(C) Companies should depend less upon Japan for supplying certain goods. (D) The disaster didn’t harm Japan’s economy much. 37.aWhat does the phrase " bounce back " in the second line of the second paragraph mean?

(A) Become worse (B) Stop functioning (C) Keep developing (D) Recover 的

38.aAccording to the article, the world economy before the disaster was ____________.

(A) in recession (B) getting better (C) stable (D) prosperous 的

39.aAccording to the article, which of the following statements is TRUE?

(A) Both the world economy and the human body can be seriously damaged by some major

problems. (B) The economic crisis after the disaster is only a temporary phenomenon. (C) The world economy is permanently damaged.

(D) The global supply chain and the human body are similar in the way that each part of their

systems works independently of others. 的

40.aWhich of the followings is NOT mentioned in this reading?

(A) Companies will re-examine their business models. (B) Keeping stocks low to save money won't be the top priority for companies. (C) The same production line should be established in at least two places. (D) Good supply chain managers will be in great demand. 的
