1st Quarter 2020

In the early 1950s, Christian Nationals’ Evangelism Commission (CNEC) expanded

southwards from China to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and other parts of Southeast Asia. The post-war period of Singapore saw an influx of immigrants. There was social unrest and economic hardship. It took several years for the economy to recover and bloom. Although some churches already existed, there was a pressing need to reach out to the different ethnic groups in Singapore, as well as the region. Therefore, CNEC began training the local Christian workers to reach their own groups. Churches were multiplied through church planting. CNEC partnered with the local Christians, with the aim of fulfilling the Great Commission.

From the 1970s, Singapore gradually rose to become an economic power in Southeast Asia. The churches planted by CNEC in the early days also grew into self-sufficient and self-supporting churches. Henceforth, Singapore evolved from a mission field to a missions resource hub. CNEC accordingly changed its strategy by partnering with local churches in cross-geographical and cross-cultural missions. This partnering relationship has enabled CNEC to reach out to the vast mission fields in Southeast Asia, East Asia and Central Asia.

While CNEC began its ministry in China, it has since transformed into an international missions agency. CNEC is a member of the Global Partnership Alliance (other members are: US Partners International, Canada Partners International, UK WorldShare, Australia WorldShare and Japan WorldShare). The Global Partnership Alliance

has collectively assisted more than 60 countries and supported around 6,000 frontline Christian workers. Since 1995, each day, an average of 7 churches were planted (total 39,019 churches); 127 people came to faith in Christ (total 1,590,967); and 564 people were assisted with holistic relief and

development (total 5,415, 501). Thanks be to God. He has used

CNEC over the past 70 years to bring the good news of Jesus to the unreached. Since CNEC set foot in Singapore, it has expanded its ministries to 11 other countries: Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Philippines, two in East Asia and one Central Asia. CNEC would not have achieved this. If you have been supporting and partnering with

CNEC, we hope that this valuable partnership will continue. If you are new to CNEC, we sincerely hope that you will consider becoming our missions partner. You can refer to the following ways of supporting and partnering with CNEC:

churches supporting mission fields through CNEC as a mission agency.

The second model is a partnership between the sponsoring churches and CNEC to collaborate with the mission fields.

In 1952, Christian Nationals’ Evangelism Commission (CNEC) set up its base in Singapore. It had since expanded its missions ministry to 11 countries in Southeast Asia. Taking a holistic approach in its gospel outreach strategy, CNEC has planted more than 300 churches and numerous house churches in various mission fields. It has sponsored over 300 Christian workers, 609 seminary students, 3 drug rehabilitation centers, 10 Bible Colleges and Schools of Missions, 6 university student centers, 5 diaspora ministries and 8 micro-enterprise projects. Through its ministry, CNEC has reached out to 84 ethnic people groups.

CNEC is grateful for your faithful support over the years. With the enormous needs in the mission fields amidst a more challenging global situation, we earnestly hope that you will continue to partner with CNEC to fulfill the Great Commission. There are various ways you can participate:

1. Be a partner 成为我们的伙伴We invite you to be our ministry partner. Please

prayerfully consider supporting CNEC on a monthly or yearly basis. Let us advance the gospel and share in God’s grace.

口I/Our church would like to be your missions partner by contributing $ monthly/yearly.

2.Be a sponsor of our ministries 支持我们的事工We hope more churches and individuals will consider

sponsoring various CNEC ministries including children homes, Bible Colleges, School of Missions, student centers, tuition centers, Christian workers/pastors in the mission fields, seminary students, orphans and other projects.

口I would like to make a one-time / monthly contribution of $ to support ministry.

3. Be an advocate 成为我们的事工推介者To enable more churches and Christians to know

and support the work of CNEC, we need our partnering churches to help promote CNEC ministries. We hope your church will give us the opportunity to share about CNEC.

口I would like to help CNEC promote its ministries. Please provide the relevant information.

4. Be a prayer warrior 成为我们的祷告勇士In addition to the above, we need prayer warriors to

continually pray for our missional work. The unwavering prayer support from our sponsors has enabled CNEC to continue serving the needs of our mission fields. You can participate in missions through intercessory prayer.

口I would like to pray for CNEC’s missional work. Please keep me updated with your prayer letters.

5. Be a volunteer 成为义务同工A para-church organization relies mainly on its

coworkers to operate effectively. To sustain such an organization, it must achieve maximum efficiency at the lowest cost. As CNEC comes under mounting challenges to meet the enormous needs of the mission fields, we call on more volunteers to partner with us in areas such as translation or information technology, We welcome Christians from all walks of life to contribute their skills and knowledge.

口I would like to be a volunteer. I am available to assist at CNEC office or through the internet.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the pandemic has been ravaging in different countries. It has not

only disrupted ordinary life but also caused urgent health threat. The world is caught unprepared and many have been overwhelmed by fear as they do not know how to face this pandemic. Are you also having panic attacks like them? In Matthew 24, the Lord Jesus foretold that there will be natural and human calamities that these are signs of the end of the age before His coming. He also said, “See to it that you are not alarmed.” As the end time approaches, these calamities will occur more frequently and with increasing intensity. The root cause is the fall of man. Since the fall, man has not been able to carry out his God-given responsibility to rule and manage the works of God here on earth, resulting in the devastation of the environment we depend on for survival. As stated in Romans 8:22, “the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” When disasters and persecutions come, everyone is impacted and Christians are no exception. Although we too suffer from the pandemic, we should not only take good care of ourselves, but more importantly, we have to come before the Lord in prayer and to seek to relieve the suffering caused by the pandemic. Moreover, Christians should reflect on the following:

1. From the perspective of daily living, we need to grow in trust and submission to our God in times of adversities. We should also gain insight into the spiritual lessons which God wants us to learn and see His mighty works. For “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).” God may use this pandemic to help us turn from worldly living to a life lived with spiritual values.

2. From the perspective of life, when our life undergoes testing or is being threatened, we need to re-examine our life mission. What should we really pursue before Christ returns? Are we ready to meet the glorious Lord if we die from the virus?

Seizing the opportune time means taking hold of every

opportunity to accomplish the mission God entrusted to us in our lifetime. Jesus exemplified this by aspiring to “do the works of His Father” at 12. (Luke 2:49) At 30, He proclaimed, “My food is to do the will of Him Who sent me and to finish His work.” (John 4:34) Giving up His spirit, He said, “It is finished.” (John 19:30) He has accomplished the mission entrusted by the Father.

After death and resurrection, the Lord Jesus gave the Great Commission to His living disciples and future followers. So we must take on the mission and be prepared to meet with the Lord anytime. Be it stress, or difficulties, or pandemic, we should continue to bear good testimonies for the Lord!

Appearing suddenly, the pandemic has delivered a shock to the global economy. Some Christians inevitably worry about their financial situations. Being a mission organization, we must learn to grow our faith in the face of adversity. With cities and countries going into lockdowns, our colleagues in the Singapore office cannot travel to help the frontline co-workers in the field. Thankfully, all our frontline co-workers are local pastors and the ministries have not been interrupted. However, the medical and health system out there is not capable of coping with the virus. These workers can only trust God as they continue to serve in their respective positions. At the same time, some orphanages, student centres, tutoring centres and schools have been informed by the governments to evacuate or stop operation. Obviously, these brothers and sisters in the remote mountains are facing more severe challenges. We covet your prayers to remember their struggle and needs. Let us join hands to help them go through this pandemic together!

1. Pray for the financial situation of CNEC: the economic depression brought by the pandemic will have direct impact on donations for missions;

2. Pray for the frontline co-workers: ask the Lord to watch over and protect them;

3. Pray for the children in the mountains: ask the Lord to keep them healthy physically, mentally and spiritually.

Dear Ministry Partners, We are in the heat of the Covid-19 pandemic. I

believe that by now most of us would have experienced the disruptions of daily lives and businesses related to the pandemic. While we are worried about the spread of the disease, we are also concerned with its impact on our economy and our jobs. In the current turmoil, let us not forget to turn our eyes upon Jesus and trust in His wonderful promises.

Our government has been proactive in bringing the infection under control. In contrast, many third world countries do not have efficient medical systems. They do not have any economic recovery plan and people are not receiving any subsidy from the government. The poor are struggling to survive. Let us not forget their needs.

You may notice that the third world countries have very small number of cases compared to Singapore. One of the reasons is due to the shortage of test kits. On the

other hand, it is also because of the fear of hospitalization and the medical bill. In view of the potential spread of the infection and the problems that may arise if they need to isolate, we plan to send love gift packages to these communities. The love gift package contains rice, oil, food items, soaps for hand washing and vitamins to strengthen their immunity. If you would like to help, please contact

us. Thank you!
