ο κορνήλιος καστοριάδης (κωνστα-ντινούπολη, 11 μαρτίου 1922 – παρίσι, 26 δεκεμβρίου 1997) ήταν έλληνας φιλόσοφος, οικονομολόγος, επαγ-γελματίας ψυχαναλυτής από το 1973 και διευθυντής σπουδών στην ανώτατη σχολή για τις κοινωνικές επιστήμες.συγγραφέας του έργου “η φαντασιακή θέσμιση της κοινωνίας”, διευθυντής σπουδών στην σχολή ανωτέρων σπουδών κοινωνικών επιστημών του παρισιού από το 1979, και φιλόσοφος της αυτονομί-ας, υπήρξε ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους στοχαστές του 20–ου αιώνα.

he developed an interest in politics after he came into contact with marxist thought and philosophy at the age of 13. his first active involvement in politics occurred during the metaxas regime (1937), when he joined the athenian communist youth (κομμουνιστική νεολαία αθήνας, kommounistiki neolaia athinas), a section of the young communist league of greece. in 1941 he joined the communist party of greece (kke), only to leave one year later in order to become an active trotskyist. the latter action resulted in his persecution by both the germans and the communist party. in 1944 he wrote his first essays on social science and max weber, which he published in a magazine named "archive of sociology and ethics" (αρχείον κοινωνιολογίας και ηθικής, archeion koinoniologias kai ithikis). during the december 1944 violent clashes between the communist-led elas and the papandreou government, aided by british troops, castoriadis heavily criticized the actions of the kke. after earning degrees in political science, economics and law from the university of athens, he got aboard the rms mataroa, a new zealand ocean liner, to go to paris, where he remained permanently, to continue his studies under a scholarship offered by the french institute. the same voyage — organized by octave merlier — also brought from greece to france a number of other greek writers and intellectuals, including kostas axelos, adonis a. kyrou, and kostas papaïoannou.

Un siglo después del Manifiesto Comunista, treinta años después de la Revolución rusa, después de victorias deslumbrantes y derrotas abismales, el movimiento revolucionario parece haber desaparecido... Más que nunca se trata hoy de una cuestión de "marxismo", de "socialismo", de la clase obrera y de un nuevo período histórico, pero más que nunca el verdadero marxismo ha sido burlado, el socialismo vilipendiado; más que nunca la clase obrera ha sido vendida y traicionada por aquellos que dicen ser sus representantes... Parece que el "socialismo" se hubiera realizado en países que tienen cuatrocientos millones de habitantes, Pero es un "socialismo" inesperable de los campos de concentración, de una explotación social inhumana y de una dictadura atroz, de una imbecilidad generalizada...

Habiendo partido del marxismo revolucionario, hemos llegado al punto en el que había que elegir entre seguir siendo marxistas o seguir siendo revolucionarios; Entre la fidelidad a una doctrina, que ya no anima desde hace mucho tiempo ni una reflexión ni una acción, y la fidelidad al proyecto de una transformación radical de la sociedad, que exige antes que nada que se comprenda lo que quiere transformar y que se identifique lo que, en la sociedad, contesta realmente esta sociedad y está en lucha contra su forma presente.
