I. CCBEN

Who are we?

n CCBEN is the only Cambodia‘s ecotourism network established to serve, support and promote communities for poverty alleviation and conservation of nature and culture.

n Founded in 2002

n 35 members including LNGOs, INGOs, academic institutes, communities and tour companies.

n Vision: q CCBEN is a strong ecotourism network

organization dedicated to sustainable tourism development that empowers community and promotes local livelihood, conservation and visitor satisfaction.

n Mission q Strengthen the ecotourism network by serving the

need of its members, communities and visitor

q To facilitate sharing and exchange of information, experiences and resources

q To provide capacity building to its members and other relevant stakeholders

q To conduct marketing and promotion of CBT sites

q To encourage dialogue between community, private sector, civil society and relevant authority and to engage in relevant public policy formulation process

II. CB(E)T

n CB(E)T = Community-Based (Eco)tourism

n CB(E)T is a form of tourism that is initiated and managed by community in collaboration with all the stakeholders to enhance the local well-being, contribute to conservation of natural and cultural resources, education, and improve the host and guest interaction (CCBEN, June, 2009).

Main elements of CBT

q Economic perspective – poverty alleviation (well-being of the people)

q Environmental perspective – conservation of nature

q Social perspective – cultural protection, education and interaction between host and guest

q Requirements – initiated and managed by local community with stakeholders
