The non-profit organization Open C.A.S.E. 303 initiated its activities on April 2013, aiming to promote culture via the unobstructed accessibility to all forms of art, structured knowledge, mind and body activities by enhancing the interdisciplinary approach to learning, education and the elimination of artificial borders and restrictions.

Open C.A.S.E. 303 Center for Art, Science & Education is glad to present the 1st Art, Science & Education (A.S.E.) Project, Open Line, inspired by Costis (Triandaphyllou) homonym exhibition.

A.S.E. Projects, Open C.A.S.E.303s main activity, raise questions about nature, life, man and his societies and search for answers through the intercourse and interaction of two human activities that seem to be discordant, however in fact they are allied: The Art and The Sciences. Each time and with the occasion of a question or a phenomenon scientists and artists meet, discuss, interact and share their thoughts and point of view with the public.

1st A.S.E. Project: Open Line sees Costis lightnings as a departure point to explore the least known aspects and effects of this natural phenomenon on life, art, science, technology and philosophy.

    Exercises on Democracy

Hollow Airport Museum, the alternative School established several years ago by Nicos Charalambidis at the abandoned Nicosias airport, bringing the Green Line to life, presents in a special booth at ART ATHINA 16-19 May 2013, a selection from the group of important artists who will participate in an extensive series of international exhibitions at a number of Museums, Galleries and other alternative exhibition venues under the curatorial of Orlando Britto Jinorio and co-curated by Maria Stathis and Sotiris Bahtsetzis.

Multilevel events lasting two years, will take place within the framework of the extended project www.whitehousebiennial.com under the general title: Exercises on Democracy.

Artists like Khaled Hourani (Palestine), Moataz Nasr (EG), Helidon Gjergji (USA-AL), Sandra Ramos (Cuba), Ilona Nemeth (Slovakia), Baptiste Debombourg (France),Txuspo Poyo (Spain), JurajDudas (Slovakia), DEMOCRACIA (Spain), Ai WeiWei (China), Olaf Nicolai (Germany), Dash Snow (USA), Driant Zeneli (AL), Nate Lowman (USA), are only a few of the headline participants in the exhibitions. Noteworthy is that at the ART ATHINA booth works of Pablo Picasso will be presented, the artist whose name and oeuvre are associated more than anyone else with Democracy and the struggles against dictatorship. The works, courtesy of the NAKAGAWA COLLECTION in Tokyo, will accompany the work Picasso in Palestine by Khaled Hourani that received the best reviews at the recent DOCUMENTA in KASSEL. On this first cycle of exhibitions for the next two years, Nicos Charalambidis gives the general title "Exercises on Democracy" inviting the artists to create works having in mind the decline of democratic values as it is linked to the global economic recession of our days. The exhibitions after ART ATHINA, 1st of June- 12th of October 2013, continued at the Open C.A.S.E. 303, inaugurating the space. A selection of Greek artists also will participate who work along a team spirit, an essential element of political art, such as Joanna Pantazopoulou, Artemis Potamianou, Dionisis Christofilogiannis, Giorgos Papadatos, Nikos Larios etc.

Future Recalls In the second decade of 21st century I and We derive their meaning from consumers human type/ social media profile and social control through the aid of sciences like statistics, genetics, epidemiology, human resourses, management, etc. respectively. Art, when it doesnt actively intervene, it takes place in the public domain and serves to channel the agony in the ideas war zone. Exhibitions title Future recalls refers to the assumptions of a dark future, assumptions that owe their existence to the anguish of a delusional present. The three exhibitions artists try to detect how our self and our inner narrative disorganizes into space, time and social process. Subject, either collective/social or individualistic, is directly or indirectly defeated into the context of globalized market, imaginative consumer manipulation, imaginary organization of the individuality and institutionalized forms of alienation. KOYMARIANOUs subject becomes disorganized, its experience seems fragmented, space loses its limits and constants. KOUMARIANOU represents this vertigo of experiences using black and white hues and featureless oppressed naked bodies, stating in the artistic way her melancholy for the loneliness of the subject. Papageorgiou deals with the mass, the population and the de-personalization. The invisible forces of discipline and control are represented human figures that dilution and thicken, figures made with homemade stamps, static or moving. In an oxymoron way mass looks lonely. The collective subject is silent, repressed into the space and crafted by individualities in matrix. SARMATZI unravel the threads of childhood and deals teratogenesis as a consequence of alienation. Sculptures made of plaster and real toys, installations and videos compose a world where innocence is oppressed, pushed by force to adulthood and like a unit to the mass. Each of her artworks, perhaps with a touch of humor, explodes to the revealing eye of the beholder.

Big cities we love or hate: In this series of photos from big cities, the artist does not mention the places the photographs were taken, leaving the viewers to imagine the big city they would like to live or not to. The big city they have fallen for or they have hated.

The photos are presented in a way that the color and the sense of a big city are given but at the same time viewers are not placed in it. Their imagination is free to create the place they would like to live. City London. Isolation and loneliness. This series of black and white photos were shot in London, a little before or after dawn. They are photos with intense contrast and unnaturally big grain, which show the smoked and dull buildings of a big city. The existence of people in very few of them, depicts the isolation that the people feel in cities. Photos which bring in mind the novels of Charles Dickens with the descriptions of London of his time. : , . . , . . , , , , . . , .

The concept of city sometimes refers to something imaginary whereas other times refers to a political, realistic or even symbolic notion. In the case of the artist Alexia Spanoudaki, city is its houses. She constructs her own cities, wherein man although physically absent, his presence is implied by his home. The houses form communities of substantial existence and coexistence. Imprinting a dreamlike city, the artist attempts to approach the collective through what is familiar at an individual level.

On April 5, 2014 Open C.A.S.E. 303 presents the exhibition of Kostas Kounenaki "Tracing: memories of the Archipelago." Aegean area, both familiar and unknown, beyond the obvious attachment we have with it, is a preferential place for the renegotiation of its historical moments, using the materials that the Aegean nature offers itself. For this purpose, the map, the main representational tool of spatial correlations that are detached from the social reality, is the field -or rather the theatrical scenery- for an alternative narration of the historical moments. The window that frames the map does not functions like a window to a pre-defined space, but as a time mark and an historical memory border. Opening of exhibition will take place on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at 18:00, at Open C.A.S.E. 303, Kifissia Avenue 303. The exhibition will last from April 5 to Holy Wednesday, April 16. Spanning a broad range of the artists body of paintings from 1991 to date, Mnemotechnics of the Self, an exhibition by the Cypriot visual artist Maria Papacharalambous on the participatory platform White House Biennial at Open C.A.S.E. 303, comprises an array of selected works in a unified painting installation set.

Celebrating the supremacy of the visual media and authenticity of writing, Papacharalambous paintings should not be considered in the context of a formalistic approach, whereby the work is projected as a surface for contemplation by art connoisseurs. Painterly though they might be, yet these works do not seek to be perceived as representations, as objects of aesthetic exploration. On the contrary, they can be characterized as an instant response (rather than expression), a kind of breathing that, though insignificant and imperceptible, is what keeps us alive. Bestowing colour on what seems like existential deadlock, these survival drills must be interpreted as a counterforce against the prevailing climate of contemporary nihilism.

Painting (art) is now enriched by the leftovers of life, which take on new utility in a kind of poietic recycling. Aided by the use of unusual materials (such as stale bread), the gestural visual narrative meets posters and magazine clippings, producing a distinctive artistic archive of scraps of meaning and allusions. These works convey a most playful and light approach to art (inspired by Nietzsches gay science as the priority of life itself), a stance vis--vis life that is manifested in Papacharalambous series of paintings entitled Here and There (2010). Childrens toys are pasted on the canvas, while a dab of raw paint serving as a poignant reminder of heroic past eras of painting, such as the pompous abstract lyricism of Tachism, in the 1950s and 1960s communicates the goal of these works: to restore lost innocence in the creative process.

  • 61

In this respect, a possible classification of the artists work as nave, art brut, informel even, fails to convey much about their meaning. Similarly, exploring Papacharalambous cinematic writing in her sometimes poetic and sometimes childishly innocent videos would reveal nothing with respect to their raison dtre and goal. When the canvas becomes a pillow for dreaming (as in a series of works from 2012 on for instance), then visual art itself becomes a practice reminiscent of a playful oneiromancy. Similarly, such a tongue-in-cheek handling of the visual media does in fact confirm what the artist cites as the fundamental origin of her practice: I see everything as painting! A painterly vision of the factical world as a whole is the motivation behind this multifaceted work by Papacharalambous, in which the alchemic alteration of the material (for instance the transubstantiation of water, or of pigment) into thought meets the morphing of words and thoughts into visual material a concept that also informs another recent project by Papacharalambous on the participatory platform White House Biennial, entitled Noesis-Alchemy-Metallaxis (2014).

Open C.A.S.E 303 is pleased to present the solo exhibition of Alexandros Maganiotis entitled id: Mythologies of (un)consciousness. It groups together for the first time three series of recent work: the Alphabet, A disturbance of Memory and Goethes Werther.

Maganiotiss work intertwines with the real and the imaginary, the structure and its degradation combining in the same frame realistic and surreal elements, thus creating bipolar relationships and strong contrasts, simultaneously using humour and irony in his works.

In this exhibition, a major question is raised; whether identity as a cultural structure is synthesized through the endless, imaginary or not, engagements and interpretations of the conscious and the subconscious.

In his work, Maganiotis's link with architecture as a science is evident. Beginning with the structured form he embarks on a process of deconstructed forms (from the world around him) that can be clearly traced. Through paradox and imagery, and through the communion of antithetical images, he re-negotiates the nowadays dominant model of the conventional and challenges what is considered as establishment.

Hollow Men by T. S. Elliot Mistah Kurtzhe dead. A penny for the Old Guy I We are the hollow men We are the stuffed men Leaning together Headpiece filled with straw. Alas! Our dried voices, when We whisper together Are quiet and meaningless As wind in dry grass Or rats' feet over broken glass In our dry cellar Shape without form, shade without colour, Paralysed force, gesture without motion; Those who have crossed With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom Remember usif at allnot as lost Violent souls, but only As the hollow men The stuffed men. II Eyes I dare not meet in dreams In death's dream kingdom These do not appear: There, the eyes are Sunlight on a broken column There, is a tree swinging And voices are In the wind's singing More distant and more solemn Than a fading star. Let me be no nearer In death's dream kingdom Let me also wear Such deliberate disguises Rat's coat, crowskin, crossed staves In a field Behaving as the wind behaves No nearer Not that final meeting In the twilight kingdom III This is the dead land This is cactus land Here the stone images Are raised, here they receive The supplication of a dead man's hand Under the twinkle of a fading star. Is it like this In death's other kingdom Waking alone

At the hour when we are Trembling with tenderness Lips that would kiss Form prayers to broken stone. IV The eyes are not here There are no eyes here In this valley of dying stars In this hollow valley This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms In this last of meeting places We grope together And avoid speech Gathered on this beach of the tumid river Sightless, unless The eyes reappear As the perpetual star Multifoliate rose Of death's twilight kingdom The hope only Of empty men. V Here we go round the prickly pear Prickly pear prickly pear Here we go round the prickly pear At five o'clock in the morning. Between the idea And the reality Between the motion And the act Falls the Shadow For Thine is the Kingdom Between the conception And the creation Between the emotion And the response Falls the Shadow Life is very long Between the desire And the spasm Between the potency And the existence Between the essence And the descent Falls the Shadow For Thine is the Kingdom For Thine is Life is For Thine is the This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but a whimper.

In Open Line Costis (Triandaphyllou) defines artistically the dynamics of the lightnings energy line.

Costis art resembles a continuous and incessant line. From his first artwork that emerged from Undergrounds social upheaval, both visual and verbal poetry, and theory to his well-known linear lightnings. During his first artistic -paper- period, Costis draw his canvases over and over with uninterrupted lines that sometimes remain abstract and chaotic and at other times they take Costis famous shape of the lunatic [] The lunatic line will be transformed to an electric pulse, in the same way that psychedelic Costis will become the electric Costis.

E L E C T R O G R A M Video Costis (Triandaphyllou) Music - Costas Mantzoros The E l e c t r o g r a m video focuses on those wondrous lines which hover in our eyes for some moments after seeing an electronically produced streak of lightning in the works of Costis. In the course of the construction of his works, these lines guide him

in the depiction of electric fields through his electric drawing or in his combining of conductible and non-conductible materials, so that the spark of the electric discharge, the lightning, may reveal itself, take shape, and even, with luck, attain its greatest freedom on the graphic surface. Perpetually changing patterns, random yet striking, impress upon our memory a map, a significant alphabet of non-material points, which the lightning reveals. The music travels along with the imagery, but it does not react to it in any immediate, obvious ways nor does it try to emulate its manner of operation. It is a white continuum white as in white page as well as in white noise a drone, out of which diverse, barely felt aural events may appear like far away gleams, distant echoes of the visual material. - () -

The word mindscape is defined as a mental or psychological scene or area of the imagination.

The word scape that is contained (which derives from the greek word ) is deliberately separated, because, beyond the meaning of landscape, in its archaic form it would also denote escape, elusion and deliverance.
