Cadeaux CachesCadeaux Caches’ Donna Ratajczak said the shop
has great options and gift selections.“We are a great store to shop if you are looking for
that something affordable, unique, different or that one-of-a-kind gift,” she began. “We just got back from a buying trip in New Mexico — where we trade with 12 Indian Nations for the most amazing Indian jew-elry, accessories and wall decor. The pieces are all hand crafted by American Indians with sterling silver and natural stones.”
But one-of-a-kind options don’t end there.“Another great selling Christmas idea is our Scien-
tific Toys,” she said. “The prices range from $2.50 to $99. We carry Earth Globes that show the city lights around the world, hand boilers, globes that float in mid-air, pet tornados, praxinoscopes (animators), musical ties, disappearing money banks ... just to name a few. We also have an incredible selection of Fair Trade. Our items come directly from communi-ties around the globe. Our Fair Trade selection(s) are never manufactured; all our pieces are handmade

with natural products. Our store is fully stocked with a selection of the most exquisite Himalayan Purses, Mexican Weekend Bags, Guatemalan Scented Coast-ers, Peruvian Bread Warmers, African Masks, Turk-ish Dishes, Vietnamese Instruments and Dragonflies, a bestseller, and Russian Dolls. This is just a small sample of the global collection we carry at Cadeaux Caches.”

she explained. “We carry over 30 local artists. This includes hand beaded water purses, a best seller, handmade beauty products, soap, a best seller, (shea, goat’s milk, honey, loofa), jewelry, paintings, key chains, honey, ornaments (okra, oyster, driftwood, sea glass), Old South art and local photography. At Cadeaux Caches, we pride ourselves on true original-ity — our items are handpicked from both local and global artisans. We truly embody the vision of think-ing globally and buying locally. “In addition, now through Nov 30 we are offering a free gift with a Simon Pearce purchase of $250 or more while supplies last.
“In the spirit of Fairhope’s celebration of ‘Grinch-mas’ this holiday season and for a genuine love of the arts, finefurnishings is partnering with high schools along the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay and The Exceptional Foundation of the Gulf Coast to create a condensed story board from the 1966 cartoon ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas.’ Each art club will design and create a familiar Grinch scene to be displayed in finefurnishings' window … and all scenes will be displayed along Pine Street.”

Specially-themed areas of the shop invite everyone to browse undisturbed throughout the shop with friendly service just a heartbeat away.”
Selection and shop design aside, thoughtful ser-vice puts icing on this Christmas cake.
“’Thinking baskets’ are scattered nearby to collect any selection one might be considering.”

al. We’re not out to get these fad ideas that people pop up with. For nativities, we have inexpensive to expensive and even interactive that children can play with. Our trees are good quality. When you’re ready for your forever Christmas tree, come see us. We have gorgeous wreaths and garlands. We have a lot of things that are under $5: more than 50 percent of the store — more than 300,000 items. Come in and shop us, everyone thinks we’re expensive, but we’re not.”
Beyond typical Christmas items, Heard said, “We have a great selection of Mardi Gras items.”
He also said that Christmas isn’t always about the bottom line.
“We want people to come for the enjoyment of the Christmas store,” he said. “We hope they buy stuff, but if you don’t buy and you enjoyed yourself, that’s great too.”
Two Old BroadsCharlene Patterson Rathburn of Two Old Broads
said the store combines great products with customer service.
“It’s customer service with a smile — come in, have a glass of wine with us and enjoy yourself,” she said. “We have apple cider, coffee, chardonnay …”
But variety doesn’t stop there; it applies to gift items as well.
“We have jewelry, scarves, decorations, serving
trays, men’s products, wallets and belts made from bicycle innertubes — it’s a company in Seattle who’s really into not having a landfill. It’s just kind of a funky thing for men and it helps the environment; it’s unusual and it feels like fine leather. We also have soap, gourmet items, napkin rings, original art — we’re kind of different.”
She said, “Shopping during the holidays is some-what stressful. We even have a concierge service. When you buy items with us, you leave them while you go on about your shopping. We gift wrap them, then when you’re finished, just call us and we’ll bring them to your car. It’s because parking in down-town Fairhope during the holidays is impossible.”

BCHM offers holiday blessings with celebration, memory tree
The Baldwin County Youth Orchestra announces its Christmas concert schedule
Submitted by Tammy Kinney
You are cordially invited to a Christmas Celebration at the Baldwin County Heritage Museum on Sunday Dec. 8, from 2-4 p.m. Join us for our Christmas Tree display as we celebrate the many different cultures that helped shape Baldwin County.
During this celebration, we will also host the Angel Memory Tree and lighting with entertainment and light refreshments. This tree is filled with tributes in memory or in honor of friends, family and loved ones. For a donation of $10 each, an Angel will be named and placed on the tree for the one you want to remem-ber or honor.
Submitted by Baldwin County Youth Orchestra
The Baldwin County Youth Orchestra will ring in the holiday season on Dec. 3 with special performanc-es by IMPACT Children’s Theatre Group. The group will perform “Tiramisu, with a Touch of Christmas” featuring original holiday music. Showtimes are 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
The play, written by Patti Woods, demonstrates the true meaning of Christmas in a story based in a ‘50s era diner on Christmas Eve. The play is complete with carol singing, dance tunes, and holiday music to make this production entertaining, educational and memo-rable.
The orchestra’s annual Christmas Concert will be held on Dec. 9 and will include the organizations be-ginning strings and band classes, adult strings, youth strings, wind ensemble and their premier advanced youth orchestra. The Youth Orchestra currently in-cludes string and band students from eight different Baldwin County Schools as well as some private and homeschool students.

Gulf Shores announces slate of holiday events
By Blake Phelps
Whether it’s catching a hilarious holiday musical or marveling at the glow of the lighted parade, families won’t have to look very far for a little fun and excite-ment this season.
The City of Gulf Shores has announced a full slate of events planned for its annual holiday celebration and invites locals and visitors to enjoy their Christmas on the Alabama Gulf Coast.
“The City of Gulf Shores is proud to be partnering with the Alabama Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce and local businesses in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach to promote the Coastal Christmas campaign,” Grant Brown, recreation and cultural affairs director, said. “We encourage all businesses to participate by deco-rating for the season to help make our community an unforgettable holiday destination.”
Gulf Shores will kick off their holiday festivities at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center on Tuesday, Dec. 3 with A Christmas Musical Celebration starring pianist, vo-calist and musical director Brian Gurl. This five person production features a wide variety of Christmas melo-dies and holiday favorites — performed like you’ve

never heard them before — with a taste of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Broadway, Jazz and a little bit of comedy.
“The audience bet-ter get ready for a jazzy, rocky, white hot, rollick-ing good time,” Gurl said. “Greensleeves will never be the same and Jingle Bells better hang on for dear life because we’re going to melt Frosty faster than a balmy Gulf Shores afternoon.”
Free tickets for the show are available at the Activ-ity Center box office on a first come, first serve basis. The box office is located at 260 Clubhouse Drive and office hours are Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The holiday fun continues on Friday, Dec. 6 with the Gulf Shores Lighted Christmas Parade and Beach Celebration. The evening parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will feature festive lighted floats from around the region. Large crowds of spectators looking to soak up the holiday spirit are anticipated along Highway 59 as parade entries make their way from Clubhouse Drive to the Gulf Shores Public Beach.
Brian Gurl will kick off the holiday festivities with “Christ-mas Musical Celebration” at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center.

Beat the Black Friday craze by planning aheadBy Jessica JonesSpecial publications [email protected]
Dedicated shoppers understand that Black Friday sales come with a steep price tag all their own. There’s waking up in the wee-hours, stumbling through a dark house for clothes and coffee, cold morning air and long lines for door busters. Oftentimes, the day after Thanks-giving brings more negative results than indigestion and surprisingly shrunken jeans. After a morning filled with stress, wanted items are often sold out or unavail-able in your needed, size, color, theme ...But a little planning goes a long way. Some internet research or a Thanksgiving evening sitting amid sale papers can mean time well spent and deal dreams, a reality.
Step 1: Create a shopping listStart by writing down all the names of family and friends for whom you intend to buy Christmas gifts. While you may not know what item to buy them, a list of names will get your wheels turning and help guide your store map.
Step 2: Sale focusPeruse sale papers and websites to find deals that fit the likes and wants of those on your list. The Bass Pro Shops catalogue might tempt you with incredible discounts, but if your shopping list contains all women, that might not be your best bet. (Save our lovely hunt-resses and female fishing enthusiasts!) Same goes for toy stores. No matter how cute the wares, focus your at-tention on the shopping list and avoid toy stores if the children have all grown up.
Step 3: Timing is everythingOnce you’ve selected your stores, see which one opens earliest, second, third, etc. Be sure to look for door buster deals, limited availability, early bird coupons and Thanksgiving Day opportunities. Plan your trip based on opening times and most desired items. I’ve been known to make a dash by Old Time Pottery just to secure my early bird coupon, go get other door busters at different places, then come back to shop and use my discount.
Step 4: Early is everythingArriving at shops early is a good idea since many people are after the same thing you are. Lines can wrap around buildings and parking can be impossible, so get in line and prepare yourself for a long day. Eat a good breakfast, dress according to weather range, be courte-ous and try not to get trampled.
Step 5: Call in reinforcementsIf friends or family members are available, take them with you. Helpers can grab one item while you go for another. Get what’s most important first; there will be time for strolling later. If friends are as enthralled as you are, coordinate your schedules together. Maybe you can grab items for her at one store, and she can grab for you at the next.
At the end of the day, take time to soak those tired feet. Eat leftovers instead of slaving in the kitchen. And don’t forget to show off all your deal steals to your ever-so-interested spouse or call up a friend to brag. Christmas doesn’t have to break the bank, just use those marvelous multi-tasking skills and get ready for some holiday fun.
