Dr. Lisa S. Coico is the 12th President of The City College of New York and the first City University 

of New York graduate to lead City College. Since joining City College in 2010, Dr. Coico has 

overseen a resurgence in academic excellence, student engagement and faculty enhancement 

for the benefit of its diverse student population. Through a comprehensive program emanating 

from her vast experience and embracing the input of students, staff, faculty, alumni, community 

leaders, and others, President Coico has significantly upgraded the quality of the academic 

experience and student life as a whole at City College.  

Major research projects throughout the STEM areas have been nurtured and increased academic emphasis on the 

extensive undergraduate and graduate offerings in liberal arts have attracted an increasingly high quality of 

students and faculty alike. 

Juana Reina's work is distinguished by more than 30 years of experience as a senior student 

affairs officer in various higher education sectors including allied health, four‐year public and 

private colleges, community colleges and the ivy leagues. Her work is informed by over 25 years 

of service to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, where she is an accreditation 

evaluator for all aspects of student affairs at both two and four year institutions.  

At City College, Vice President Reina has reorganized the Division of Student Affairs and has 

worked with talented colleagues and students to create programs aimed at fostering the professional development 

of the whole student, providing holistic support for student wellbeing in challenging times, and at increasing 

engagement among students, their families, staff and faculty. The work of the Division is based on a commitment 

to the idea that experiences outside the classroom are valuable opportunities for learning, personal and 

professional growth that can aid retention and foster academic success. 

                                   The City College of New York Athletics Department is proud to announce Dr. Kevin Abdur‐               

                                   Rahman as Director of Athletics.  Dr. Abdur‐Rahman began his 21 years of service at City College 

                                   as the Director of the Herman Goldman Center for Sports & Recreation, our former athletic  

                                   field.  In 1994 he founded the Wingate Fitness Center, which was the first state of the art fitness 

                                   facility on the campus of the City College of New York.  Dr. Kevin Abdur‐Rahman is a  

                                   Philadelphia native who grew up in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.  He is a 1970  

                                   graduate of Germantown High School.  He began his career working with young people in the 

mid‐1980's by becoming a community organizer for an agency called Crisis Intervention Network.  Crisis 

Intervention was founded to address the problems of gang violence in the city of Philadelphia.  He received a 

Master of Human Services degree from Lincoln University and a Doctor of Education degree from Temple 

University.  In 1988 Dr. Rahman founded a delinquency prevention program called Total Response, Inc.  Total 

Response was a non‐profit organization committed to the development and coordination of youth motivational 

programs, using athletics as a methodology.  Dr. Rahman served as an assistant with the Simon Gratz H.S. men's 

basketball team. This experience led to the subject of his doctoral dissertation.

Men’s Soccer Program Overview and Highlights

The City College of New York men's soccer team has put itself in position for a highly successful 2014 

season, a year removed from shocking all of CUNY with a run to the conference championship finals. Head 

coach Robert Ignaccolo returns several top returning veterans, complimented by one of the best recruiting 

classes in CCNY history. Returning forward Matthew Mbamelu, midfielders Felipe Maidana and Fanhor 

Sanchez, and defender Dylan Faughey are looking to step into leadership roles this year. The Beavers got a 

taste of what it took to win a championship last season, and they stand ready to take the next step in 

2014. Maxwell Berkow, coming off a phenomenal freshman year that saw him win CUNYAC Rookie of the 

Year honors, will hold down the goalkeeper's position. Berkow posted four shutouts with a conference‐

best 1.25 goals‐against average and a .851 save percentage in 2013. Key recruits this season include 

defender Joseph Lo Bosco, midfielder Krystian Koniarz and forward Matthew Ebalu are all expected to 

provide an instant impact. 

Head Men’s Soccer Coach: Roberto Ignaccolo

Recently completed his 8th season as head men’s soccer 

coach and academic coordinator.  Since joining the Beavers 

in 2007, Ignaccolo has coached several City University of 

New York Athletic Conference All‐Stars and Player of the 

Years.  Ignaccolo brings over 20 years of soccer experience 

to the CCNY Men's Program and puts an emphasis on being a 

complete student‐athlete.

Women’s Soccer Program Overview and Highlights

The City College of New York women's soccer team is preparing for their sixth season under Head Coach 

Don Manfria. Leading the young Beavers is senior forward and team captain Yanique Newman. Newman 

finished second in the conference last season in goals, assists and points, en route to being selected as a 

CUNYAC First‐team All‐Star. CCNY will have several impressive recruits to fill out their roster, including 

talented midfielder Tatiana Franco. Transfer defender Anna Elias is expected to stabilize the back line. Two 

of last year's graduating seniors, team captain and defender Heather Ruger and record‐breaking 

goalkeeper Nicole Carroll, formed the heart of the team that won the CUNYAC Championship in 2012. 

Ruger and Carroll will be joining Manfria on the bench this year as first year assistant coaches. 

Head Women’s Soccer Coach: Don Manfria

Recently completed his 6th season as head women’s soccer 

coach and is currently in his first season as the equipment 

manager and concessions supervisor at CCNY.  Manfria 

earned his first ever CUNYAC Coach of the Year honors after 

a record setting 2012 season that saw the Beavers set new 

school records in wins, goals, shutouts and assists.

Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Program Overview and Highlights

The City College of New York men's and women's cross country teams are prepared for the 2014 season, 

bolstered by the addition of talented new recruits as well as returning veterans. The women’s team will be 

led by team captain and 2013 CUNYAC All‐Star Zulena Saravia. Joining her will be senior Christin Hu, 

recipient of last season's Sportsmanship award, and Katiuska Sosa. Katelynn Kozak, an All‐Star in Indoor 

Track & Field last year, joins the program. Cassie Gibbons and Christine Escobar are two of four freshmen 

expected to have an immediate impact. On the men's side, the rookie quartet of Rowan Cruickshank, 

Thomas Sullivan, Samuel Gotts and Joseph Benson are expected to help the Beavers compete for years to 

come. They'll look for leadership from Fernando Meza, Jonathan Elysee and Janssel Nunez. The program 

will also host their 2nd Annual CCNY Classic on October 12th at Van Cortlandt Park. 

 

Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Coach: Hugh Reid

Hugh Reid has served as head coach of the City College of New York track and field program and cross‐country teams since the fall of 2010.  CCNY’s track and field program has been the cream of the CUNYAC since Reid’s arrival, winning the men’s indoor and outdoor conference championships three times each (2011, 2012, 2013) while securing the women’s indoor conference championship in 2011 and 2013 and outdoor championship in 2011.

Assistant Coach: Mark Hurst

Mark Hurst has been an assistant coach of the City College of New York track and field and cross‐country teams since the Fall of 2009.  In that time, Hurst has helped develop three All‐Americans, along with a multitude of CUNYAC and CTC champions. Prior to coming the CCNY, Hurst was an assistant coach at Hunter College, where he helped train several conference all‐stars.

Head Women’s Coach: Dalliana Toussaint

Dalliana Toussaint became the Head Coach of the City 

College of New York women’s volleyball program in the 

Fall of 2014.  

Toussaint, a CCNY alumni (Class of 2013) had a stellar 

four‐year career with the Beavers, playing 143 matches 

over the course of her time at CCNY and accumulating 

1124 career kills, 1423 digs, 187 service aces, 33 solo 

blocks and 70 block assists. Toussaint was a three time 

CUNYAC All‐Star, earning Conference Player of the Year 

honors as a senior. Toussaint  also won the 2012 CUNYAC 

Sportsmanship Award. As a freshman, she helped the 

Beavers win the 2009 CUNYAC Championship 

Tournament, their last conference crown. She won the 

Ben Wallack Award in 2013 as the top female CCNY 

student‐athlete. 

When not coaching the team, Toussaint works as an 

office manager in the CCNY Athletics department. She is 

studying to earn her Master’s Degree in Speech Therapy 

at Lehman College. 

Women’s Volleyball Program Overview and Highlights

The City College of New York women's volleyball team is looking to turn the program around 

under first year Head coach and former CCNY star player Dalliana Toussaint. "I am very excited to 

be coaching this year, especially for the school I played for." Toussaint said. "CCNY has a few 

returning players that I'm definitely excited to see improve and bring this team to a new level. 

Things will start out slow, but Leticia [Marotti] and Saye [Joseph] will definitely bring their all this 

year, and with incoming freshman Irish [Iyyadurai], I know that we will end this season well."   

Last year was a fantastic first season for Leticia Marotti, as the transfer earned CUNYAC Player of 

the Year honors after averaging 3.67 kills and 2.69 digs per set. Fellow standout Saye‐Chantl 

Joseph averaged 2.17 kills and 1.29 digs per set. Senior Kathlen Dos Santos steps into the setter 

role, looking to spark the Beaver attack.  

Freshman Irishvarsha Iyyadurai is expected to crack the CCNY rotation immediately, and will give 

the program a foundation to build upon moving forward. Toussaint herself was a four year 

standout for the Beavers from 2009 to 2012, during which she totaled 1124 kills and was voted 

conference Player of the Year her senior season.
