CRANE VINEYARD ST HELENA, NAPA VALLEY COMPOSITION: 92% Cabernet Sauvignon 3% Cabernet Franc 5% Merlot ALCOHOL: 14.8% APPELLATION: Salvestrin ~ Dr. Crane Vineyard St. Helena, Napa Valley HARVEST DATE: September 2014 RELEASE DATE: July 2017 AGING: 22 Months COOPERAGE: 65% French, 35% American 60% New Oak At first this wine is all about fruit; ripe dark cherry and blackberry are framed by toasty oak with hints of coffee, tea and vanilla. The dark fruit is vibrant on entry, which leads to a full rich mouth coating mid palate and nicely balanced fine tannin. The intensity and concentration flow seamlessly to notes of ripe fruit and barrel tones that linger pleasantly for an extended period, inviting one back to the glass! This wine will drink beautifully now and over the next 10+ years.

Salvestrin 2012 Estate 3D Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon $145 bottle

e Debate - Robert McKay2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoer Dr. Crane Vineyard$180 bottle

Dr. George Belden Crane settled in St. Helena in the 1850’s and began planting grapevines by 1859. He purchased approximately 300 acres on what is now the south end of town. By the 1870’s Crane had planted about 100 acres of vineyard and built a winery. e winery was on land that is now occupied by St. Helena High School. Dr. Crane was known as a pioneering viticulturist and was the rst to plant European varietals in Napa Valley. Crane died in 1898 and the property was owned/operated by family until the 1920’s. At that point it began to be cut up and sold o.

John and Emma Salvestrin arrived in California from Italy in the mid 1910’s and settled in St. Helena in the mid 20’s. ey were able to save up enough for a down

payment and purchase Dr. Crane’s original home and 23 acres of his original vineyard in 1932. ey lived in the home and farmed the land their entire life. In 1949 St. Helena High School “needed” to expand and took through eminent domain 3 acres of the land behind where our winery stands now. e Salvestrin family has been farming this land for three generations and have been making wine commercially since 1994. Also, in 1994 they were able to purchase an adjacent parcel of Crane vineyard, nearly 7 acres where they live now.

Andy Beckstoer purchased a neighboring parcel nearby in the early 90’s which was part of Dr. Crane’s land and has since marketed the grapes as Dr. Crane Vineyard. Salvestrin has marketed grapes

to Robert Biale Vineyard as the Old Crane Ranch, from the 90’s until just a couple years ago.

2012 is the rst vintage using Salvestrin-Dr. Crane Vineyard as a vineyard designation on the 3D Cabernet Sauvignon. e grapes come from the same vineyard they always have and now include the designation of the good Doctor.

Please enjoy this wonderful expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from a historic pedigreed vineyard and a family passionate about the land, the history and producing world-class wine.

Salute! The Salvestrin Famiy

A little St. Helena (Salvestrin/Dr. Crane) history:

Wines produced from vines planted in the original vineyard are some of the most celebrated and collected wines today. Of these few wines, only Salvestrin Dr. Crane wines are produced and bottled at the winery on the original Estate of the Doctor. Other producers purchase their grapes from growers who have been farming the vineyard for much less than the 3 generations and over 85 years that the Salvestrins have tended to the original Dr. Crane vineyard, property and home. e press consistently rates Salvestrin Estate wines with high scores and the value that the Salvestrins oer by being the only owners who produce wine from this heralded vineyard is evident. Salvestrin Dr. Crane wines are not only craed by Rich Salvestrin himself, he and his family are true stewards of the vineyard and the legacy of Dr. Crane.
