Girl Scout camping… is an experience that provides creative, educational opportunities in groups living in the outdoors. Its purpose is to use the Girl Scout Program, trained leadership, and the resources of the natural surroundings to contribute to each camper’s mental, social, physical, and spiritual growth.

Day camp… is an experience for girls from different troops and groups to meet outdoors each day. Girls attend as individual campers and are placed in units according to their grade in the fall. Experience day camp and make new friends!

Resident camp… is a camping experience for girls to live in the outdoors for three or more days. Girls from different troops and/or groups sign up as individual campers and are placed in units according to their desired program activity. Girls and their counselors plan activities, taking advantage of the opportunities available to them.

Troops Love Camping (TLC)... is an experience for the whole troop! Want to share summer camp with your Girl Scout friends? Then this is defi nitely for you! We will supply food, supplies, and activities for your troop.

Camp Gallahue consists of more than 800 acres of relaxing property in Brown County, near Morgantown, IN. The camp is located about 30 minutes northeast of Bloomington and just over an hour south of the Indianapolis service center. The property includes beautiful hills, an abundance of trees, and a lake.

Sycamore Valley sits on 160 acres of land and is located on SR 26, seven miles east of Lafayette on the Wildcat Creek. The two sleeping units include A-frame cabins (Unit 1) and eagles nests – cabins on stilts (Unit 2). Sycamore Valley also has an in-ground pool with modern shower house. Girls may participate in several different learning opportunities on our 37-foot climbing wall and 300-foot zip line, as well as our low ropes course.

Camp Dellwood in Marion County is 141 acres of wooded farmland. Six platform tent units and three buildings provide sleeping quarters for over 200 girls a week. A swimming pool permits summer waterfront activities. The camp is located approximately 10 miles west of downtown Indianapolis. We recommend new day camp volunteers attend this open house to become familiar with the property.

Send a girl to campCamp scholarshipsIt is our goal to continue to provide opportunities for girls who want to go to camp. Camp scholarships provide this life-changing experience for girls who may not otherwise be able to participate because of their economic circumstances. Contributions to camp scholarships make it possible for all girls throughout the 45 counties we serve to attend camp and have the same opportunities and experiences regardless of their ability to pay. In addition camp scholarships help underwrite the cost of camp activities, keeping fees low for all girls.

With your help, we will continue to give Girl Scouts the opportunities they need to become the leaders they want to be today, and the leaders our community needs them to be tomorrow.

Join the staff of IU's College of Informatics to explore various areas of computer technology in a week-long overnight camp on campus! Work hands-on in the college labs as you learn from faculty about how information technology is used in science, art, and visual communications. After fun hands-on classes all day, enjoy activities in the evening such as bowling, movies, swimming, games, and more.

Indiana University Resident Camp: E-TextilesGrades: 6, 7, 8Offi ce Code: 2053

Girl Scouts of Central Indiana is teaming up with Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing to offer an opportunity for you to jump into the exciting world of E-Textiles. You will create an electronic textile of your choosing that will take an input (e.g., temperature) and produce an output (e.g., LEDs lighting up). Through hands-on activities you will gain an understanding of new printing technology, 3D visualization, basic electronic circuitry, basic programming, sewing, prototyping, and the iterative design cycle. The camp will culminate in a fashion show where you with get the chance to show off your new creations to your parents, guardians, families and friends. The fashion show and family/friends

program will take place on Thursday, July 16, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by a luncheon.

Campers will stay on the beautiful Indiana University Campus in one of the dorms and experience what it is like to be a college student.

Marian University Resident Camp: Girls Exploring Medical Sciences (G.E.M.S.)Grades: 8, 9, 10Offi ce Code: 2053

Are you fascinated in biology class about how the human body works? Do you fi nd yourself drawn to the “Untold Stories of the ER” TV shows? Then this camp based in Marian University’s new College of Osteopathic Medicine is for you! We will spend time learning about various medical specialties and have lots of hand-on activities such as learning how to cast on a broken arm, how to evaluate a new-born baby, see how the heart works and maybe even get to hold a heart specimen! We will even spend a day learning about how medicines are developed and produced at Eli Lilly & Co! Come spend a week learning what it might be like as a medical student! …is an experience for girls from different troops and groups to meet outdoors each day. Girls attend as individual campers and are placed in units according to their grade in the fall.

Please note: This is not troop camp and the entire troop is not guaranteed to be placed together in one unit.Attend day camp and make new friends!

At day camp you’ll try new craft projects, sing, discover the wonders of the outdoors and learn how to live with nature, play games, experiment with science, math, and technology, make new friends, make lasting memories, and for one night, your unit will remain in camp together. Day camp is a great way to build your courage, confi dence, and character!

Day camp is for all girls who have completed kindergarten through 7th grade. Girl Scouts from other councils, as well as non-members, are welcome to attend day camp. Girls who are no longer active in a troop or have never been members may attend camp by paying a one time fee of $30.* For girls with a chronic illness or disability, a written statement from her physician is required and must indicate the girl can participate in routine activities without harm to herself.

*Includes Girl Scouts of the USA membership fee.

Day camp begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. All campers will have the opportunity to spend one night (Thursday) at camp. On the overnight, girls will sleep in a tent/cabin with other girls. Adults will have separate sleeping quarters. Only registered adults volunteering the entire fi ve days are allowed to stay for the overnight.

Day camp at Camp Sycamore ValleyChild care before and after hours is not provided.

Day camp is not the same as troop camping. At day camp, you and one friend will be assigned to a unit where you can work and play together all week. Each girl should list the other’s name on their registration form to guarantee placement together. Girls and parents should agree on their camper’s buddy. Often a buddy’s name is listed, but that girl already has arranged to be buddies with someone else. Placement together will not be possible if more than one name or different names are listed. Troop members attending the same session are not guaranteed the same unit assignments. All girls are placed in a unit based on the grade they will be entering in the fall.

Our camp is not open to visitors during camp sessions so that we may provide a safe and secure environment for all participants. All participants and staff must be registered prior to camp in order to attend. Please plan to visit the camps during the open house to see the units, staff and program areas.

Camp feesGirl Scouts of Central Indiana is committed to providing high-quality, affordable outdoor programming for girls. Thanks to the support of product sales and other funding to the council, we are able to keep the cost of camp sessions substantially lower than the actual cost.

Car transportationParents should plan to drive their daughter to and from camp. Campers must be dropped off at camp no earlier than 8:30 a.m. and picked up no later than 4 p.m.

MealsEach camper will bring their lunch on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We will provide the meals for the rest of the week.

Volunteer staff benefi ts• Attend day camp for free• Waive the camp fee for the girl of your choice• Receive a camp T-shirt and patch• Make a difference in a girl’s life

To waive a camp fee, volunteers must attend a pre-camp meeting, attend day camp fi ve full days (Monday through Friday), and stay on the overnight (Thursday night).

Please understand that all adult volunteers are expected to volunteer Monday through Friday and stay on the overnight (Thursday night). This is for the safety and well being of our campers. No exceptions!

Volunteer staff trainingAll day camp volunteers must attend the pre-camp meeting for the session(s) they are assigned to. At this meeting, volunteers will receive a day camp volunteer staff manual; receive unit assignments, unit lists, and unit schedules; learn about the specifi cs of the session; meet the people they will be volunteering with; and work with others to develop activities for their unit.

Older girl leadership at day camp Day camp aides have long been a part of the day camp experience. Day camp aides provide a variety of skills, talents, and support to younger campers while continuing to develop their

leadership skills in an adult supported and supervised environment.

If you want to be a day camp aide this summer, here’s what you need to do: Attend day camp Aide-in-Training week at Camp Sycamore Valley (for new day camp aides).

This training is designed to reinforce basic skills and to give a foundation for leading and working with younger girls in the outdoors. During the week, girls will also complete the Program Aide Training. Registered Girl Scouts must have completed 7th grade. Cost is $35. The fee of the training includes materials, a day camp T-shirt and patch.

Day Camp Aide-in-Training will be offered June 8-12. Training is Monday through Friday with an overnight on Thursday night. You must complete the entire week of training, including the overnight, to be qualifi ed to become a day camp aide.

Experienced day camp aides and girls who have completed training may apply to be a day camp aide. The cost is $25 per session. The fee for day camp aides defrays meals, incidental expenses and includes a day camp T-shirt and patch.

Registering with a buddy• Girls who want to sign up for a unit together

must complete the Buddy Information section on the registration form and list each other’s name to guarantee placement together..

• Limit one buddy. Buddy must be entering the same grade in the fall. (Troops are not guaranteed to be placed in the same unit)

Multiple sessionsThere is no limit to the number of sessions each girl may attend (fi nancial assistance is available for one session only). A separate registration form is required for each session. You may make copies of the form, download it from our website, or request a copy from your service center. You do not need to submit additional copies of the health history form.

Applying for fi nancial assistance (PAG)Girl Scouts of Central Indiana is committed to providing a positive experience to every girl who wants to be a Girl Scout. Program Assistance Grants are provided so that a family’s economic status will not be a barrier to participation.

To apply, submit the Program Assistance Grant application with your camp registration form and health history form. A $10 deposit per girl is required. This deposit is not refundable unless your child cannot be placed into a session. Use a separate grant application per girl. Please do not mail in your PAG without your camp registration form. We can not process the PAG until the camp registration is received.

All applicants will be notifi ed by mail (in a separate letter from the confi rmation packet) as to the approval of the request.

All Program Assistance Grant information is kept strictly confi dential. Grants are available for one camp session per girl.

Registration closesRegistration closes 2 weeks before the beginning of each day camp session or when the session is full, whichever is fi rst.

Refund procedureThe day camp fee does not cover the entire cost of your child attending camp. The remainder is covered

by various funding sources that support Girl Scouts of Central Indiana. For this reason the refund policy is:

Refunds are given only if cancellation is received at least two weeks prior to sessions.

$25 of fee will be retained for handling charges.

Refunds are not given to no shows or campers leaving camp early due to personal reasons including homesickness, sports, family vacations, behavior, etc.

Questions and answers

1. What do I wear to day camp?Old clothes are the best and should include shorts or long pants, T-shirts or tank tops (no halters or midriffs), socks/shoes (closed-toe and heel only – no sandals), jacket or sweatshirt, raincoat or poncho if the weatherman predicts wet conditions.

What do I bring to day camp each day?Bring these items daily to camp in a backpack or similar type bag. Mark the bag with the camper’s name, unit name, and bus stop name or “car rider.”

• Hat or bandana• Swim suit and towel• Closed-toe-shoes• An extra pair of closed-toe-shoes (that you

don't mind getting wet)• A plastic grocery bag for wet close and shoes• Raincoat or rain poncho (if weather warrants it)• A water bottle (bottles with a screw on lid are

best; no bottles with straws please)• Sunscreen and insect repellent (non-aerosol)• Lunch for Monday-Wednesday

Is there anything my camper can't bring ?We do not allow any of the following at camp:

• Electronic devices (including cell phones and MP3 players)• Weapons, alcohol or tobacco products• Drugs (prescription and over-the-counter drugs must be turned in to the camp health supervisor)

If my camper has a game/event, can I pick her up and return her at anytime? We do appreciate all campers remaining at camp for the entire day. It is disruptive to your camper and the other campers in her unit, to pick her up midway through the day and bring her back.

to contact the camp director prior to or during check-in on the fi rst day. Your camper will not be able to return to camp until 8:30 a.m. the next day. Please provide a note with the day, time, reason, and who will be picking up, to the camp director on that day. If you have an evening event on the overnight, you may pick up your camper at 3:30 p.m.

What do I bring if I am staying overnight on Thursday? Bring these items to camp in a duffl e bag or similar type bag on Thursday. Place all items in a trash or water-resistant bag that the camper can carry. Please label all bags with the following information (duct tape and a permanent marker works best):

Camper name (First and Last name), Unit name• Light weight sleeping bag or bedroll (blankets)• This year we are opening extra outpost units

which means that some campers will be in tents. You will be informed prior to camp if your camper will be in one of these units. The tents will be provided but bedrolls will not.

Session #1: June 3-5 • Ready, Set, Summer Sampler • $60 • Grades K-7School's out! Now is the time to get a sneak peek at what day camp at Sycamore Valley is all about. If you are ready to move and groove, get artsy, use your impagination and get messy; this is the session for you. There will NOT be an overnight in this fun day camp sampler. Daily drop-off is Wednesday, June 8 from 8:30-9 a.m. and pickup is Friday, June 12 from 3:30-4 p.m.

Session #2: June 8-12 • Movin' & Groovin' • $85 • Grades K-7 Do you like to dance? Don't worry if you don't know how, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn this week! This is your chance to have fun, play dress up, clown around, be silly and take home some new dance moves.

Roll in the mud, splatter the paint, play with your food and make other gooey arts and crafts. What are you waiting for? Come get your hands dirty, because the mess is up to you! p Resident camp at Camp Sycamore Valley… is a camping experience for girls to live in the outdoors for fi ve days. Girls from different troops and/or groups sign up as individual campers and are placed in units.

Camp sessions are open to all girls entering grades 2-8 in fall 2015. All girls who are registered Girl Scout members may attend. Girls who are no longer active in a troop or have never been members may attend camp by paying a one time fee of $30.* For girls with a chronic illness or disability, a written statement from her physician is required and must indicate the girl can participate in routine activities without harm to herself.



Resident camp staffMembers of our camp staff are enthusiastic, talented, fun-loving and caring individuals. They are selected based on their experience, ability to serve as role models and their genuine desire to work with children. Our staff is committed to creating a caring and supportive environment that respects each girl as an individual.

Staff candidates are recruited from colleges and universities, local community agencies and referrals. Individuals must be at least 18 years old and complete a thorough application process which includes a background check. The health and safety of our campers is always the fi rst priority of the staff.

Staff training prior to camp includes supervising and caring for campers, activity programming, fi rst aid and CPR, team building, and much more.

Car transportationParents should plan to drive their campers to and from camp. Drop off and pick up times are:

Monday drop off 2-3 p.m.

Friday pick up 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

How to register • Choose the camp session your camper would like to attend. Grade refers to grade camper will enter in fall 2015.

• Complete one 2015 Resident Camp Individual Registration Form for each camper and session. Please print clearly.

• If your camper wishes to attend more than one session, complete one registration form for each session.

Refund procedure The fee for resident camp is not designed to cover the entire cost of a girl’s stay at camp. The remaining cost is covered by various funding sources that support Girl Scouts. For this reason the refund policy is as follows:

• Refunds are given only if cancellation is received two weeks prior to session.

• $25 of fee will be retained for handling charges. The $10 deposit for PAG’s will not be refunded if we place your child in a program .

• Refunds will not be given to campers who are no-shows or who leave camp early . No refunds will be made for a child leaving early regardless of the reason. We will try to place your camper in another session if she cannot attend camp due to a failed lice exam. If she cannot be placed, there will be no refund.

Questions and answersCan my daughter request to go to camp with a buddy?Resident camping is about camping with friends, both old and new. Girls may request to stay in the same unit with one girl in the same session. Please write the buddy’s name in the appropriate space on the application. Requests must be mutual and only one buddy will be honored. Please mail in the two forms at the same time or we might not be able to place both girls in the same session. Because making new friends is also important, only one request per girl, per unit will be honored.

Can I take my camper out of camp to play sports? Can I pick her up early?We do appreciate all campers remaining in camp for the entire session. It is disruptive to your daughter and the other campers in her unit if you pick her up midway through her session and bring her back a day later.

However, if you wish to take your camper out of camp, you will need to contact the camp director prior to or during check-in on the fi rst day. Your camper will need to be picked up at 3:30 p.m. and will not be able to return to camp until 8:30 a.m. the next day.

How may I contact my camper? May I visit or call her?

Parents and other family members may visit the camps during their designated open house. We do not accept visitors during resident camp as seeing a mom or dad may spark homesickness in many campers. Also, because telephone calls from home tend to increase the likelihood of homesickness, we ask that you refrain from calling camp. We need to keep our phone lines available for business and emergency purposes. We also ask that you do not allow your daughters to bring cell phones to camp. Parents may always call camp directors for an update on their daughter.

What health precautions are taken? Is a physical exam required?All campers attending camp this summer must have a medical history form that has been signed by their doctor, which means they need to have been seen by a doctor in the last 24 months. A resident camp health history and exam form will be included in camper’s confi rmation packet.

As part of our check-in procedures, all campers must be seen at the infi rmary on opening day.We will do a head and foot check and discuss any special needs with each camper. If your daughter is on medication, her counselors will administer her medication as noted on the bottle. Campers are required to turn in all medications, both prescribed and over-the-counter, in the original containers, to the health director on opening day.

What if my daughter has special needs? At camp, we make every effort to allow all girls to enjoy our camp sessions. If you have concerns about your daughter’s ability to participate in our camp, please call us before registering her for camp. For girls with a chronic illness or disability, a written statement from her physician is required and must indicate the girl can participate in routine activities without harm to herself. Routine activities include hiking at least two miles each day, showering and changing clothes by herself, and walking up and down sizeable hills possibly in the dark with a buddy. If your daughter cannot do these activities without help, we can suggest other camp opportunities that she might enjoy. Unfortunately, we cannot offer one-on-one helpers for campers.

How often do campers swim and shower? Weather permitting, all campers have the opportunity to swim and shower every day of their session with the exception of opening and closing days.

Will my daughter need money at camp? No, she will not have the opportunity to purchase anything while at camp. Snacks are free every afternoon and she will receive her T-shirt at the end of the session.

What if my daughter gets homesick? Because homesickness is common at camp, especially for fi rst time campers, our staff members are trained to provide a caring, supportive environment for your child. Homesickness usually passes in a day or two. Your encouraging attitude both before and during camp will help prevent homesickness. Please remember that campers who overcome homesickness have met a real challenge and can feel a sense of pride in themselves. If a camper’s homesickness should persist, the parents/ guardians will be notifi ed by the camp director. More information on homesickness will be mailed with confi rmations. Campers do not have access to phones and may not bring cell phones.

What if the weather is bad?While at camp, every counselor is in touch with the camp director who has access to a weather radio. We are aware of any storms headed our way and have procedures in place to protect our campers. Some activities may be affected by weather, and in this case refunds are not issued. Please keep in mind that there is only one phone line that does need to be kept open during inclement weather in case of emergency.

What grade does my daughter need to be in to attend camp sessions at camp?The grades listed are the grades that your daughters should be going into in the fall. All campers must be in grades 2-8 to attend resident camp this summer.

How can I prepare my camper?It is important for parents to talk with their camper about what to expect at camp this summer. Be sure to emphasize the good time she will have. The American Camp Association has great resources for parents available at campparents.org.

What is camp life like?All campers are expected to participate in all-camp kapers, including making their bed, maintaining their living area, and rotating responsibilities in the dining hall. Each camper is also responsible for her own personal care and grooming. Campers will sleep either in a unit house with their counselors in a separate room nearby, or in tents with the counselors in the unit. Also, campers will earn age-level appropriate Girl Scout recognitions.

Want to share summer camp with your Girl Scout troop? Join the Camp Sycamore Valley staff and other troops for a fun fi lled troop camping experience! We will supply activities, supplies and food for your troop. You will need to provide transportation. Activities will be ran by our camp staff, so experience is not necessary.

Troops will stay for three days and two nights. This is perfect for new troops who have not experienced campr or for those proofs that prefer to experience summer camp together. Troops will participate in many hands-on activities and enjoy crafts, outdoor cooking, swimming and other camp experiences. Join us for fun with other troops around Indiana!

LeadershipEach troop provides its own leadership through parents, leaders, and other family members. All adults must be registered Girl Scouts. A minimum of two adults must be in camp at all times. At least one must be 21 years of age; others may be 18 or older. Troops must meet adult to girl ratio per Safety-Wise.

During your stay we will provide activities and meals throughout the day and evening. The leaders’ responsibility will consist of supervising the girls at various activities, escorting them to the different places in camp, and providing programming for a small amount of down time.

Family Camp at Camp Na Wa KwaJune 19-21

Here is a special opportunity for all Girl Scouts in central Indiana and their families!

You are invited to get away from the crowds and busy highways to explore the beautiful campgrounds at Camp NaWaKwa. You’ll share a wonderful family experience, meet other Girl Scout families, and make new friends! We have planned some activities to complement your weekend of leisure.

Get away from the city lights and noises to enjoy a quiet weekend at Camp NaWaKwa, located 10

minutes from Lieber State Park and Cagles Mill Lake.

Lifeguards will be on duty at the swimming pool and for canoeing on the lake. Other activity options include the climbing wall, zip line, archery, and hiking along the fossil beds.

Because we do not have unit houses at NaWaKwa, we will also offer an option to eat in our dining hall.

…is an experience for girls from different troops and groups to meet outdoors each day. Girls attend as individual campers and are placed in units according to their grade in the fall. Please remember this is not troop camp and the entire troop will not be placed together in one unit. Attend day camp and make new friends!

At day camp you’ll try new craft projects, sing, discover the wonders of the outdoors and learn how to live with nature, play games, experiment with science, math, and technology, make new friends, make lasting memories, and for one night, your unit will remain in camp together. Bus transportation will not be offered Thursday night or Friday morning if you choose not to spend the night. Day camp is a great way to build your courage, confi dence, and character!

Day camp is for all girls in grades K-7. Girl Scouts from other councils, as well as non-members, are welcome to attend day camp. Girls regardless of their ability, may attend the session of their choice at camp. Girls who are no longer active in a troop or have never been members may attend camp by paying a one time fee of $30.* For girls with a chronic illness or disability, a written statement from her physician is required and must indicate the girl can participate in routine activities without harm to herself.



There are day camp aide opportunities for girls entering grades 8 through 12. A day camp aide assists the adults in leading a unit of girls at camp.

Volunteers make up most of the day camp staff.

Positions that are held by volunteers include directors, assistant directors, craft leaders, unit leaders, and assistant unit leaders. Won’t you please consider becoming a volunteer this summer? The camps also employ paid, seasonal personnel such as: health care supervisor, lifeguards, kitchen staff, tag-a-long unit staff, day camp aide instructors, bus monitors, and Math and Science Center staff.

Day camp begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. All campers will have the opportunity to spend one night (Thursday) at camp. On the overnight, girls will sleep in a tent/cabin with other girls. Adults will have separate sleeping quarters. Only registered adults volunteering the entire 5 days are allowed to stay for the overnight. Child care before and after hours is not provided.

Day camp is not the same as troop camping. At day camp, you and one friend will be assigned to a unit where you can work and play together all week. Each girl should list the other’s name on their registration form to guarantee placement together. Girls and parents should agree on their camper’s buddy. Often a buddy’s name is listed, but that girl already has arranged to be buddies with someone else. Placement together will not be possible if more than one name or different names are listed. Troops are not guaranteed to be placed together. Troop members attending the same session are not guaranteed the same unit assignments. All girls are placed in a unit based on the grade they will be entering in the fall. Camp buddies should be in the same grade.

Our camp is not open to visitors during camp sessions so that we may provide a safe and secure environment for all participants. All participants and staff must be registered prior to camp in order to attend. Please plan to visit the camps during the open house to see the units, staff and program areas.

MealsLunches and snacks for each day will be provided. Thursday dinner, evening snack, and Friday breakfast are provided for those staying overnight. To ensure camper safety, food allergies and/or special diets cannot be accommodated. No discount can be provided if a camper does not eat the camp meals or snacks.

TransportationBus riders: optional bus transportation is available. Girls may attend the session of their choice. However, transportation will only be provided according to the 2015 day camp bus transportation schedule per camp. Information will come via email a few days before each session with bus stop times. Typical bus pick up times fall between 7:15-8:30 a.m. and drop off times fall between 3:30-4:45 p.m. Bus stop selection can not be changed after being submitted with the registration due to the safety of the girls. Please note that bus transportation is not available on Thursday afternoons or Friday mornings due to the camp overnight. No price adjustment will be given if a girl chooses not to participate in the overnight.

Car riders: parents may drive their daughter to and from camp. Campers must be dropped off at camp no earlier than 8:30 a.m. and picked up between 3:40-4 p.m.

Older girl leadership at day camp Day camp aides have long been a part of the day camp experience. Day camp aides provide a variety of skills, talents, and support to younger campers while continuing to develop their leadership skills in an adult supported and supervised environment.

If you want to be a day camp aide this summer, here’s what you need to do: Attend a day camp Aide-in-Training week at Camp Dellwood (for new day camp aides).

This training is designed to reinforce basic skills and to give a foundation for leading and working with younger girls in the outdoors. During the week the girls will also complete the Program Aide Training. Registered Girl Scouts must have completed 7th grade. Cost is $35. The fee of the training includes materials, a day camp T-shirt and patch.

Day Camp Aide-in-Training will be offered during the following day camp sessions:

The fee for day camp aides defrays transportation, meals and incidental expenses. The fee also includes a day camp T-shirt and patch. You must attend all fi ve days, including the overnight.

amp Become a day camp volunteer!

Do you enjoy the outdoors and have a passion for working with children? Are you physically able to walk around camp all day? If so, please consider volunteering at day camp this summer. Volunteers are the core of the day camp staff. This valuable learning experience would not be possible for the girls of central Indiana without volunteers. Interested parents and adults are invited to register. Each adult volunteer can send one girl to camp for free!

Volunteer selectionThe Camping Services Department in consultation with the day camp directors approve all registrations. The selection of staff is based on the qualifi cations of the applicant and the staffi ng needs of each session. For the safety of all campers, volunteers must be physically able to stand for long periods of time and walk on rough terrain All volunteers must be registered Girl Scout members and complete a background check. See forms provided.

Tag-a-long programIf you are a registered day camp volunteer attending all week and have a younger child, she or he may enjoy participating in the tag unit. Trained staff will provide activities on site for the child. Day camp volunteers can place a younger child in the tag unit for $30/child for the week. This fee includes a day camp T-shirt, patch, daily snack, meals on all days, bus transportation, and supplies. This fee cannot be pro-rated if your child does not stay every day. The tag unit is for the children of volunteer day camp staff only. Girls registering for the tag unit must be three through fi ve years of age; girls who have completed kindergarten should register for day camp as a Girl Scout Daisy. Boys registering for the tag unit must be three to eight years of age. All children registering for the tag unit must be out of diapers.

To waive a camp fee, volunteers must attend a pre-camp meeting, attend day camp fi ve full days (Monday through Friday), and stay on the overnight (Thursday night).

Please understand that all adult volunteers are expected to volunteer Monday through Friday and stay on the overnight (Thursday night). This is for the safety and well being of our campers. No exceptions!

Volunteer trainingAll day camp volunteers must attend the pre-camp meeting for the session(s) they are assigned to. At this meeting, volunteers will receive a day camp volunteer staff manual; receive unit assignments, unit lists, and unit schedules; learn about the specifi cs of the session; meet the people they will be volunteering with; and work with others to develop activities for their unit.

Day camp skills trainingThis training is highly recommended for fi rst time adults planning to volunteer at Dellwood day camp this summer. Attending this training will orient you to Camp Dellwood, make you more familiar with your role at camp, and help you enjoy your volunteer week. We will take a walking tour of camp so you can learn your way around and recognize sites and landmarks. Participants will get hands-on training on equipment use, cleaning procedures, and fi re building. Dress appropriately for training and hiking, and wear comfortable, closed-toed-shoes. Volunteers will also have to attend the pre-camp meeting for their specifi c session. Training will start at Camp Dellwood's Program Center.

assistance (PAG)Girl Scouts of Central Indiana is committed to providing a positive experience to every girl who wants to be a Girl Scout. Program Assistance Grants are provided so that a family’s economic status will not be a barrier to participation.

To apply, submit the Program Assistance Grant application with your camp registration form and health history form. A $10 deposit per girl is required. This deposit is not refundable unless your child cannot be placed into a session. Use a separate grant application per girl. Please do not mail in your PAG without your camp registration form. We can not process the PAG until the camp registration is received.

All applicants will be notifi ed via email with their confi rmation packet as to the approval of the request.

All Program Assistance Grant information is kept strictly confi dential. Grants are available for one camp session per girl.

Camp feesFull fee must be paid no later than May 31 for all camp dates. Failure to do so will result in loss of reservation.

Registration closesRegistration closes 2 weeks before the beginning of each day camp session or when session is full, whichever is fi rst.

Refund procedureThe day camp fee does not cover the entire cost of your child attending camp. The remainder is covered by various funding sources that support Girl Scouts of Central Indiana. For this reason the refund policy is:

Refunds are given only if cancellation is received at least two weeks prior to sessions.

$25 of fee will be retained for handling charges.

Refunds are not given to no shows or campers leaving camp early due to personal reasons including homesickness, sports, family vacations, behavior, etc.

Questions and answersWhat do I wear to day camp?Old clothes are the best and should include shorts or long pants, T-shirts or tank tops (no halters or midriffs), socks/shoes (closed-toe and heel only – no sandals or crocs), jacket or sweatshirt, raincoat or poncho if the weatherman predicts wet conditions.

What do I bring to day camp each day?Bring these items daily to camp in a backpack or similar type bag. Mark the bag with the camper’s name, unit name, and bus stop name or “car rider.”

• Hat or bandana• Swim suit and towel• Raincoat or rain poncho (if weather warrants it)• A water bottle (bottles with a screw on lid are

best; no bottles with straws please)• Sunscreen and insect repellent (non-aerosol)

We do not allow any of the following at camp:• Electronic devices (including cell phones and MP3 players)• Weapons, alcohol or tobacco products• Drugs (prescription and over-the-counter drugs must be turned into Camp Health Supervisor)

What do I bring if I am staying overnight on Thursday? Bring these items to camp in a duffl e bag or similar type bag on Thursday. Place all items in a trash or water-resistant bag that the camper can carry. Please label all bags with the following information (duct tape and a permanent marker works best): Camper name (fi rst and last), unit name, bus stop name or "car rider"

… is a camping experience for girls to live in the outdoors for fi ve or more days. Girls from different troops and/or groups sign up as individual campers and are placed in units according to their desired session. The girls and their counselors plan activities, taking advantage of the opportunities available to them.

Resident camp staffMembers of our camp staff are enthusiastic, talented, fun-loving and caring individuals. They are selected based on their experience, ability to serve as role models and their genuine desire to work with children. Our staff is committed to creating a caring and supportive environment that respects each girl as an individual.

Staff candidates are recruited from colleges and universities, local community agencies and referrals. Individuals must be at least 18 years old and complete a thorough application process which includes a background check. The health and safety of our campers is always the fi rst priority of the staff.

Staff training prior to camp includes supervising and caring for campers, activity programming, fi rst aid and CPR, team building, and much more.

• List a second and third choice only if your camper wants placed in those sessions. We will refer to those choices if we cannot place a camper in her fi rst choice.

• Any incomplete forms or registrations without payment will be returned. If forms must be returned to you for any reason, the receipt date for processing purposes will be based on the date in which complete forms and payment (or PAG form) is received in our offi ce.

Bus transportationOptional bus transportation is available. Qualifi ed public carriers transport girls to and from Camp Gallahue. The bus fee is $35 per person. This fee is non-refundable, not included in the camp fee, and is $35 regardless if the camper is utilizing the bus for one-way or round-trip transportation. The following bus stops are used for resident camp bus transportation. Please plan to arrive 15-20 minutes prior to pick-up and drop-off times. We

will be conducting head checks before children will be allowed to board buses/vans. The buses must leave at the scheduled time to make it to the next stop on time. We will not be able to wait.

Questions and answersWho may attend Girl Scout camp?Camp sessions are open to all girls entering grades 2-12 in the fall regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin. All girls who are registered Girl Scout members may attend. Girls who are no longer active in a troop or have never been members may attend camp by paying a one time fee of $30.* For girls with a chronic illness or disability, a written statement from her physician is required and must indicate the girl can participate in routine activities without harm to herself.



Can my daughter request to go to camp with a buddy?Resident camping is about camping with friends, both old and new. Girls may request to stay in the same unit with one girl in the same session. Please write the buddy’s name in the appropriate space on the application. Requests must be mutual and only one buddy will be honored. Please mail in the two forms at the same time or we might not be able to place both girls in the same session. Because making new friends is also important, only one request per girl, per unit will be honored.

Can I take my camper out of camp to play sports? Can I pick her up early?We do appreciate all campers remaining in camp for the entire session. It is disruptive to your daughter and the other campers in her unit if you pick her up midway through her session and bring her back a day later.

How may I contact my camper? May I visit or call her?Parents and other family members may visit the camps during their designated open house. We do not accept visitors during resident camp as seeing a mom or dad may spark homesickness in many campers. Also, because telephone calls from home tend to increase the likelihood of homesickness, we ask that you refrain from calling camp. We need to keep our phone lines available for business and emergency purposes. We also ask that you do not allow your daughters to bring

cell phones to camp. Parents are always welcome to call the camp director for an update on their daughter.

What health precautions are taken? Is a physical exam required?All campers attending camp this summer must have a medical history form that has been signed by their doctor, which means they need to have been seen by a doctor in the last 24 months. A resident camp health history and exam form will be included in the camper’s confi rmation packet. As part of our check-in procedures, all campers must be seen at the infi rmary on opening day. We will do a head check and discuss any special needs with each camper. If your daughter is on medication, we will administer her medication as noted on the bottle. Campers are required to turn in all medications, both prescribed and over-the-counter, in the original containers, to the health director on opening day.

What if my daughter has special needs?At camp, we make every effort to allow all girls to enjoy our camp sessions. If you have concerns about your daughter’s ability to participate in our camp, please call us before registering her for camp. For girls with a chronic illness or disability, a written statement from her physician is required and must indicate the girl can participate in routine activities without harm to herself. Routine activities include hiking at least two miles each day, living in a tent with steps, showering and changing clothes by herself, and walking up and down sizeable hills possibly in the dark with a buddy. If your daughter cannot do these activities without help, we can suggest other camp opportunities that she might enjoy. Unfortunately, we cannot offer one-on-one helpers for campers.

During the horse session, how many lessons will she have? What might she learn about horses at camp?Weather permitting, girls in Yearlings will go riding in the ring two times. They will also have two ground lessons. Campers in Hoofprints will be split into four riding groups. Each day, the groups will rotate through cleaning, tacking, and riding the horses. Each girl will have time to ride each day, not including opening day, closing day, and Sundays. Girls attending Ringmasters, and Mini Wranglers and Wranglers will also have time to ride each day. They will spend some of their time

at the barn learning more advanced horse care and do some trail riding. Yearlings will not leave the riding ring.

How often do campers swim and shower?Weather permitting, all campers have the opportunity to swim and shower every day of their session with the exception of opening and closing days.

Will my daughter need money at camp?No, she will not have the opportunity to purchase anything while at camp. She will receive her T-shirt at the end of the session. If, however, your daughter is in a session that will be traveling out of camp, you may send extra money along with her. We ask that your daughter does not bring an excessive amount, as her needs will be taken care of while attending camp. The money you send will be spent on anything she wants.

What if my daughter gets homesick?Because homesickness is common at camp, especially for fi rst time campers, our staff members are trained to provide a caring, supportive environment for your child. Homesickness usually passes in a day or two. Please do not be alarmed if the fi rst letter you receive from your daughter refl ects her feeling of homesickness. It was probably written at a low time, and by the time you receive it your daughter is having a great time playing with her new friends. Your encouraging attitude both before and during camp will help prevent homesickness. Please remember that campers who overcome homesickness have met a real challenge and can feel a sense of pride in themselves. If a camper’s homesickness should persist, the parents/guardians will be notifi ed by the camp director. More information on homesickness will be mailed with confi rmations. Campers do not have access to phones and may not bring cell phones.

What if the weather is bad?While at camp, every counselor is in touch with the camp director who has access to a weather radio. We are aware of any storms headed our way and have procedures in place to protect our campers. Some activities may be affected by weather, and in this case refunds are not issued. Please keep in mind that there is only one phone line that does need to be kept open during inclement weather in case of emergency.

What grade does my daughter need to be in to attend camp sessions at camp?The grades listed for each session are the grades that your daughters should be going into in the fall. All campers must be entering second grade or higher to attend resident camp this summer.

How can I prepare my camper?It is important for parents to talk with their camper about what to expect at camp this summer. Be sure to emphasize the good time she will have. The American Camp Association has great resources for parents available at campparents.org.

What is camp life like?All campers are expected to participate in all-camp kapers, including making their bed, maintaining their living area, and rotating responsibilities in the dining hall. Each camper is also responsible for her own personal care and grooming. Campers will sleep either in a unit house with their counselors in a separate room nearby, or in platform tents with the counselors in their own tent in the unit. Campers are given a voice in planning all activities, which could include art projects, swimming, cookouts, and campfi re activities.

There is something for everyone to do! We will travel by school bus and stay in a hostel Monday through Thursday. End the week back at camp before you leave on Friday. Don’t worry- we sleep inside a building, not actually with the wolves!

Splendid Spelunking • 1 weekGrades: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12In this session we will travel to the caves of southern Indiana to explore the stalagmites and stalactites! Horse unitsAll camp sessions will swim every day; do crafts twice a week, cook-out, canoe and other types of boating along with the themed activities described.

Girl Scouts of Central Indiana offers a wide range of horseback riding programs aimed to help girls experience the joy and adventure of this exciting sport. Whether a girl dreams of being an Olympian, riding in rodeo, or simply loves to ride horses every summer, campers will be taught in a safe and comfortable learning environment. Our instructors all have previous experience teaching horseback riding, and provide close and constant supervision during all aspects of the riding program.

Emphasis in all programs and levels is on skill development, progression and expanding knowledge of horses and horse care. Girls will take part in the horse care and management by feeding, cleaning and grooming. Within their registered program, campers are placed in classes based on their skill level. Classes are kept small with a ratio of at least 1 instructor to 6 campers. Campers in riding programs will also participate in other camp areas and activities.

Care and Keeping of Magical Creatures • 1 weekGrades 5, 6, 7, 8, 9Do you know what a Bowtruckle is? Or a blast-ended Skrewt? What should you give a sick unicorn? This unit will help you earn your O.W.L. while also riding our horses! Enjoy the world of Harry Potter’s weird animals while spending time at our barns. By completing your O.W.L at camp you could become a magizoologist!

Note: This is a horse unit where we teach horseback riding with other fun!

Hoofprints • 2 weeksGrades: 6, 7, 8What could be better than being with a group of girls who love horses as much as you do? Learn riding skills and how to care for horses. Spend time each day grooming, tacking, riding horses, and learn the basics so you can move on to our more advanced horse activities. You'll also get to experience bareback riding, bathing horses, confi dence-building games, and competing in a fun show! Don't forget all the traditional camp activities like camping out and swimming availble,too.

Mini Wrangler • 2 weeksGrades: 8, 9, 10Let's hit the trails! If you have completed Hoofi es and Ringmasters, you are ready for more trail riding with the horses. You must take the profi ciency test at the Camp Gallahue open house on Sunday, May 31, 2-4 p.m. The Mini-Wrangler profi ciency test includes control of the horse at a walk, trot, and canter; hands, body position, saddle; and bridle a horse, seat, leg.

Camp GallahueLabor Day • Sept 4-7

Enjoy the lovely hills and valleys of Camp Gallahue. This beautiful resident/troop camp is located in Brown County.

Lifeguards will be on duty at the waterfront for swimming, canoeing, open kayaking, and fi shing.

Hillcrest – three wings; each wing has either 12 or 14 beds, private restrooms, showers, and modern kitchen.Fee per wing: $125

Four tent units – units consist of a large activity cabin with ten nearby platform tents for sleeping and pit latrines. Cabins have modern kitchens and substantial activity space to be shared by families staying in the unit, for get-together, cooking, etc.Fee per family $50

Adirondack unit (Harley’s Hill) – three sided shelter for sleeping, picnic style shelter with tables, a pit latrine, and a fi re bowl. No electricity or water.Fee per family:$25

Primitive camping sites – unlimited site capacity. Sites include fi re bowls, fi re grates and picnic tables. Water available from a pump located in the center of the valley. No electricity. Fee per family: $25

Picnic area – available for day use.

Hills of Gallahue trail – provides a rugged seven and a half-mile trail through the hills of Brown County. After hiking the trail, The Hills of Gallahue patch is available for purchase from any Girl Scouts of Central Indiana Showcase.

Someone in the family must be a registered Girl Scout member. A family consists of individuals living in the same household.

Each family must bring their own equipment and food. No campers, trailers, or motor homes, no hookups. No pets, smoking or alcohol allowed.

Please complete the Program Assistance Grant Application online at girlscoutsindiana.org, or mail the following form to Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, Suite 100, 2611 Waterfront Parkway East Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46214.

Grants are given for individual girl or troop participation in Girl Scouts of Central Indiana and Girl Scouts of the USA endorsed events such as GSUSA national and international Destinations, resident and day camp, and council, service unit, or troop program activities. Grants are only given to registered Girl Scouts.• Each girl may apply for one troop, one camp and one individual grant per year. • Financing is seldom more than matching funds with the exception of extreme need and or unforeseen

circumstances beyond the control of the applicant.• All applicants will be notifi ed by mail as to the disposition of the requests.
