some incredible vehicles from bygones eras, all competing for more than 30 plaques. The competition sets up just beyond the Square, in the Municipal Court Annex parking lot.

Then there’s the barbecue cook-off.

brisket, pork spare ribs, chick-en, and even beans chefs are battling for some dough and bragging rights.

Follow your nose into Springtown Park where the cooks will get busy.

Bringing the community to-gether in the name of Christ – that’s the common goal of local churches from the Springtown area that come together as the Fellowship of Christian Churches.

While there has always been camaraderie and cooperation between the churches, the Fel-lowship aims to unite the entire community in honor of the Lord.

“We do want to unite around Christ and around the cross as a body of believers,” said Pas-tor Doug Harris of Agnes Bap-tist Church.

“We do it together, and we do it for the Lord – let’s rec-ognize Christ, because he’s the glue that sticks us together.”

The Fellowship has once again come together to spon-sor the 31st Annual Wild West Festival as a way of serving the community while making a statement about their unity in the body of Christ.

This the second year the Fel-lowship will be an event spon-sor; they did so the previous year in honor of late Pastor

John Conway, who was pas-sionate about unifying the lo-cal churches.

“This is a legacy he wanted to leave,” Harris said. “He would want the community to see that their churches gather together around the cross.”

The Fellowship is involved in many other community events as well, Harris said.

They host the annual school prayer event, and they work in conjunction with the Spring-town Area Chamber of Com-merce to provide food and gifts at the annual luncheon for new teachers.

Harris said the Fellowship also gathers together monthly to eat and pray together in the heart of Springtown.

“We meet once a month and have lunch, and weather per-mitting, we go to the Taber-nacle and pray together for our community,” Harris said.

“Our greatest desire is that we want to see not only God’s blessing on our community, but our community blessing God by the way that we live.”

SPRINGTOWNGAS COMPANY

P.O. BOX 68 - SPRINGTOWN, TX 76082

Ward WestAir: Oldest business in town keeps up with times, serves community

Springtown’s longest operating business sits right in the heart of the town square.

Ward WestAir prides itself in being deeply rooted in the history of Springtown and is a participat-ing sponsor in the Chamber of Commerce’s Wild West Festival Saturday, Sept. 19.

The Ward family established Ward Welding in 1936 as a black-smith and service shop for local farmers and ranchers. They add-ed welding supplies and indus-trial gases as well.

Then in 1995, Dale Shaw and his son Quinn purchased Ward Welding and Supply and expand-ed the focus from welding and fabrication toward hard goods.

The Shaws partnered with Michael Crambes in 2012 and began to expand the business by adding concrete projects, fences, and buildings. More importantly, they were licensed with the Texas Department of Transportation which expanded the company’s industrial gas offerings.

Dale and Quinn decided to sell the business in 2013 so Crambes sought out WestAir Gases – an-other family-owned business – as

a partner to continue the compa-ny’s growth.

Since that time Ward WestAir has purchased two Fort Worth welding supply stores and opened a new store in Saginaw. In just two years the company has grown six times larger and hired 11 new employees.

“Supporting Springtown in events like the Wild West Festi-val is why we have been blessed with growth. We buy local when we can and try to help out where we can,” said Crambes, general manager of the company. “That is what this town is all about. Our goals and success would not be good enough if they did not in-clude the needs and development of our community.”

Ward WestAir offers a full line of products and is a distributor for major welding and industrial product lines including Lincoln, Miller, Victor, Tweco, Norton, and Sait.

They also sell an extensive line of safety products such as gloves, head gear, helmets, eye and face protection, burn resistant cloth-ing, and hoods from brands such as Revco, Jackson, Tillman, and

Save Phace. In addition, Ward WestAir is a

full-service medical gas provider and specializes in servicing den-tists, doctors, veterinarians, and surgery centers.

“We offer a wide range of guaranteed-pure gases and equip-ment to ensure the safe and ef-ficient handling of all gases,” said Crambes. “Our pure medical gases, classified by the Food and Drug Administration as drugs, are produced in accordance with the current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).”

No matter the production envi-ronment, Ward WestAir can pro-vide a complete line of welding and industrial gases to meet your contained-gas needs.

Ward WestAir employees take pride in treating each cus-tomer like a guest in their home. WestAir’s mission statement is “large enough to serve but still small enough to care.”

With the resources of WestAir, the business continues to flour-ish and expand new offerings to the community it serves. Cram-bes went on to say, “We never stop listening to the needs of the

people – understanding the needs of the community helps us recog-nize opportunities to grow and is the cornerstone of what has given us success here in Springtown.”

Learn more about WestAir Gases by visiting its website www.westairgases.com or by calling 817-220-7291.

At Ward WestAir on the Springtown Square, (l-r) Philip Self, branch manager; Rudy De La Fuente, account man-ager; Michael Lemmons, production lead; and Michael Crambes, general manager, can take care of all your contained-gas needs. And they’ll treat you like a guest in their home while doing so.

by Natalie GeNtryBrookshire’s employees are

excited about the upcoming Wild West Festival benefiting the Springtown Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Like always, we will have a drink station at the festival,” store manager Mark Baumann said.

But Wild West isn’t the only thing Brookshire’s supports in the Springtown community through-out the year.

There’s Spirit of Christmas; Relay For Life; numerous food drives for Neighbor To Neigh-bors; and countless donations of gift cards, food items, and drinks to Springtown ISD schools and events.

The Brookshire’s experienceThe Brookshire’s chain has put

in place several programs to help shoppers save during their grocery experience.

The cornerstone plan is the YourPoints program.

Customers simply need to regis-ter their free Thank You Card, and they will begin earning one Your-Point per dollar on most purchases at participating Brookshire’s Food Stores.

In addition, Brookshire’s also offers eDeals of the week.

Customers register to receive eDeals and then just watch their inbox for a great offer each week that’s already loaded to their Thank You Card.

Then they simply put the items in their cart, use their Thank You Card at the checkout, and the sav-

ings are automatic. The Text Club is another way

for customers to receive additional deals from Brookshire’s.

By registering online or texting “GROCERY” to 43101, custom-ers can get bonus Your Points and special offers.

Brookshire’s also created a app that allows customers to make and manage shopping lists, view YourPoints balances, load up on coupons, browse recipes, and check out weekly sales – all with the their phone.

The load-to-card coupons make saving money easy by allowing shoppers to select coupons online or through their app.

The coupons are stored on the customer’s Thank You Card and automatically redeemed at check-out.

Now that’s shopping in the digi-tal age.

Brookshire’s also offers an op-portunity for shoppers to win cash for Springtown High School as well as special offers through the ongoing Extra Point competition.

By texting PORCUPINES to 43101 each day, Brookshire’s cus-tomers give SHS the chance to win $10,000 as well as earn week-ly specials for themselves.

Giving back to the communitySimply put, Brookshire’s aims

to keep their focus on providing excellent customer service and giving back to the people and the community.

Just last month in August, the store collected donations of Gato-

Brookshire’s: Groceries with friendly service and an engaging atmosphere

rade for local fire and police de-partments as part of a company-wide campaign.

All in all they were able to contribute eight pallets of Gato-rade to the cause.

“I think people want to help, but they don’t always know how,” Baumann said. “This was

an easy way for them to help their community, and I’m very thank-ful for the citizens of Springtown.”

Baumann went on to say Springtown is a great town to live and work in.

“This community re-ally reaches out and helps everyone, when-ever there’s a need,” he said. “We just try to do our part, as well.”

From the carryout tradition to the ad-dition of niche offer-ings, like sushi, the staff at brookshire’s strives to make the shopping experi-ence enjoyable. Photo by Natalie Gentry

“I appreciate the close-knit feel of this community,” May said, adding that it’s a dynamic not of-ten found in more metropolitan areas.

The 2004 Springtown High School graduate said he enjoys interacting with customers and that earning the approval of his clients makes the hard work

worthwhile.May said he strives to be a fa-

miliar face in the area and stays involved with the Springtown Area Chamber of Commerce as a means to help the community.

In fact, he was nominated as Ambassador of the Year at the 2014 chamber banquet.

May knows that customer ex-perience and referrals means a lot in his line of work.

Diamond B Roofing boasts a number of industry certifications; the company is a GAF-certified installer and holds membership in the North Texas Roofing Con-tractors Association and the Na-tional Roofing Contractors Asso-ciation.

The company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and maintains $1 million in gen-

eral liability insurance.Additionally, Diamond B Roof-

ing has licensed adjusters on staff to assist customers throughout the claims process and to ensure they get the money they deserve.

“I want the hardest thing my customers do to be picking up the phone and calling in the claim,”

May explained. “We work close-ly with local insurance compa-nies that are more than happy to help.”

Diamond B Roofing provides much more than roofing repairs, with crew members ready to tack-le residential additions, remodels, porches, decks, and many other projects – they handle jobs rang-ing from small residential to large commercial projects.

Since the inception of the com-pany, May has consistently spon-

sored Springtown’s annual Wild West Festival and makes a prior-ity of supporting numerous other community events.

Driven by his desire to provide an excellent service to the com-munity, May said he is glad to be based in Springtown.

“Roofing is our business,” he said. “My team and I are moti-vated to deliver the best possible product of any competitor.”

Diamond B Roofing offices are located at 426 East Highway 199. For more information, call (817) 523-4137.

For family owned Taco Casa, having a location in Springtown revolves around family and com-munity.

Owner Tom Loughrey said, “We think of our customers as a big family. We have so many who have been so loyal from day one.”

Historically, the Taco Casa chain is 43 years old; the Spring-town Taco Casa has been here 14 years now, and Loughrey has owned it for 13 of those.

Loughrey said getting involved in the community is essential for the restaurant.

“Our focus is to support the community,” he said. “We’re very active in the schools and churches, and there are a lot of non-profits we help.”

That’s why you’ll see Taco Casa involved in the 31st Annu-al Wild West Festival again this year – they think of the commu-nity as family.

Taco Casa remains committed to serving the people of Spring-town, where they enjoy such a loyal following.

Even local Taco Casa em-ployees tend to stick around, Loughrey said.

“There are some employees that have been with us for 13 years,” he said. “To me, it’s about

the community as a whole, but our employees become like fam-ily, also.”

For years, locals of all ages have poured into the restaurant at 101 Highway 199 West, Suite A – at the intersection of the Jacks-boro Highway and Main Street.

Springtown folks know that their Taco Casa lives by the com-pany motto of “Real Fresh...Real Food...Real Good...”

They are present throughout the town – every visitor to Porcupine Stadium sees the company’s bril-liant sign displayed, and many a sportswriter and stadium worker has enjoyed food delivered to the press box on fall Friday nights.

Choosing a menu favorite at Taco Casa is not easy.

Aside from the generous filling in every regular taco – crunchy or soft – there’s a “Super Taco” as well as a “Taco Lite,” and “Taco Casa Delights,” a crispy cinna-mon treat for dessert.

Not to mention huge burritos, a salad, tostados, nachos and chila-das.

Especially popular are the fa-mous chiliburgers and the gotta-have-it, fresh brewed tea.

If you’re looking for good food served by good people – just like family – look no further than Taco Casa.

Good food, good people at Taco Casa

Today, 45 years after Du-rant first began, he finds himself at the helm of a com-pany that provides jobs for more than 400 employees.

It has grown to one of the largest auto dealerships in the Metroplex, consisting of Jerry’s Chevrolet, GMC/Buick, Cadillac, Toyota, Sci-on, Hyundai, and pre-owned sales.

But Jerry Durant Auto Group is about more than just vehicles.

Jerry’s takes great pride

in community involvement, paying it forward, and giv-ing back to area communi-ties.

The company is once again sponsoring Spring-town’s Wild West Gun Fight show on Saturday, Sept. 19, during the 31st Annual Wild West Festival.

You can find Jerry’s Auto Group in the 3000 block of Fort Worth Highway in Weatherford and Jerry Du-rant Toyota at 5100 High-way 377 East in Granbury, so remember to come out our way and trade your way!

The Wells Fargo stagecoach is scheduled to make its annual appear-ance in the Wild West Festival’s annual parade Saturday, Sept. 19.

Missy Grubis, Springtown branch manager, said she receives re-quests every summer inquiring if the stagecoach will ride again.

Luckily, the answer has been pretty consistent.Grubis said she usually schedules the iconic artifact of bygone

days in December each year for the following September. While the 31st annual festival is all about fun, it undeniably also

celebrates the more colorful facets of Springtown’s history includ-ing pioneers, bank robbers, cowboys, and gunfights.

The stagecoach was an integral to civilizing the wild western frontier – a symbol of getting money, mail, and passengers across the continent – and the Springtown Wells Fargo branch arranges for it to be in the parade each year.

This year is no dif- ferent; the Wells Fargo stagecoach will once again feature in the Wild West Festival parade, which begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.

The parade route will circle much of the commercial section of the town; beginning at Brookshire’s parking lot on State High-way 199.

It will roll west on the highway to the intersection with FM 51 where it will head north, past Tabernacle Square, turn right again on Second Street, and travel east to Springtown Elementary.

The Springtown branch of Wells Fargo is located at 201 South Main Street, on the southwest corner of Tabernacle Square.

Lobby hours are Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The drive-through is open Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Fri-day 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Grubis and her staff make it their mission to offer a hometown touch to your banking needs, so call 817-220-4823 for additional information.

Then find a spot to watch the parade and keep an eye out for that classic symbol of the West; the Wells Fargo stagecoach.

We are all connected by the people we know, the places we’re from, and the things we hold dear.

The staff at Pinnacle Bank Springtown knows that not only in banking but also in life, community matters. This is why Pinnacle Bank is a $1,000 Platinum sponsor for the Wild West Festival – an indication of its strong support for all things Springtown.

Janelle Summers, vice presi-dent, along with Paige Pearson, branch manager, talked about spending a few hours in Sep-tember, along with the bank staff and their families, driving folks around in golf carts to and from the event.

They all look forward to it.“It’s fun,” Summers said.

“It’s just part of living in a small town. You usually know where to go to get things done. It’s all about people helping each other.”

“It’s all about giving some-thing back to the community,” Pearson – who was recently promoted after 15 years with the bank – added. “I’ve been

chauffeuring people around the Wild West Festival for eight years now, and love to see all the families who come out and enjoy the day. It’s always such a pleasure getting to talk with everyone.”

The bank’s support of Wild West has a lot to do with its fo-cus on community banking – a concept fostered by the home office in Nebraska several de-cades ago.

Pinnacle Bancorp was found-ed by a Ne- braska bank-i n g family i n 1938. T h a t same f a m - i l y r u n s t h e organization now. Pinnacle Bancorp bought Springtown’s First Bank and several other area branches in 2008.

“I think it helps that Pinnacle Bank is still family owned and operated,” Summers said.

With the backing of a large organization, the Springtown bank can provide its customers with all the services they need – from free checking and debit cards to an array of online bank-

ing services. And in an economy strug-

gling to recover from reces-sion, the bank is still handing out loans and helping folks get into new homes – or refinance mortgages. Rates are still at an all-time low.

“We have it better in this part of the country than most folks,” Pearson said. “We’ve been blessed.”

Both Pearson and Summers say they feel blessed to work with employees who actually care about the community they serve – and are willing to spend an entire Saturday chauffeuring people around in golf carts.

“Many of our people grew up in this area went to school here and know the people they serve,” Summers said. “I couldn’t do it without them.”

NORTH SIDE OF SQUARE

817-523-7227

For 10 years now, folks from all around have enjoyed the superior offerings of Woody Creek Bar-B-Q on the Springtown Square.

From its beginnings in the backyard of Jimmy Neeley who cooked in an old bread truck, the popularity of the restaurant has been so great that there’s a loca-tion in Fort Worth, too.

Here on the Square, Jimmy’s wife Mary and children Jimmy and Jennifer Neeley Smith carry on the tradition of Jimmy, Sr. who

The friendly staff at Woody Creek Bar-B-Q is ready to serve you in Springtown, dish-ing up everything from their famous ribs and chopped beef sandwiches to homemade sides and desserts. in the fabric of Springtown, from catering varsity football games to weddings and other events.

The restaurant remains popular because of the high quality food.

Both Jennifer and Mary said the ribs are exceptionally popular, and so is the famed Double Bar-rel, a giant baked potato stuffed with chopped barbecue as well as all the usual fixin’s. Another big seller is the Gunslinger – sliced

hot links and sausage and chopped beef all under one giant bun.

Customers return again and again to Woody Creek. Jennifer said, “I tell people to just try us once. You can’t please everybody, but I tell them ‘you will be back.’”

The portions are impressive and that amplifies the store creed: “If you walk out of here hungry, it’s your fault.”

Mary said a big reason for the business’ success is her talented crew. “We have a good staff – the

best you could ask for.”That talented group can help

you reserve one of the party rooms. Plenty of people have tak-en advantage of a room, Mary said, for birth-day parties or anni-versaries.

A group of 20 or more can lay claim to one of the spacious areas by calling 817-220-2008.

While the big burgers with “right off the potato” homemade

French fries tempt and the banana pudding and peach cobbler call, Jennifer said Woody Creek really

excels at their namesake.“We are known for our barbecue and

we want to keep it that way,” she said. “We want

to keep it just like Dad wanted it.”

In whatever mode you enjoy the food, you can expect one thing from the restaurant in every facet: The customer is No. 1.
