    1. SCOPE1.1. This specification covers the general design and testing requirements for

    standard MV & LV three/single phase squirrel cage induction motors that

    shall be fabricated to drive process & other operational equipment in the South

    East Zagross Cluster, Sarvestan and Sadaat Abad Oil Fields Project for

    located in Iran.

    1.2. Motors shall be made suitable for outdoor installation and continuousoperation under the site conditions of the refinery, as defined in section 2,below, and as specified in the Data Sheets of the relevant motors.

    2. SITE CONDITIONSAll electric motors shall be designed and manufactured, to be suitable for their

    particular service & operational requirements, under the following site conditions.

    a) Site elevation (+/- mean sea level): (+)1560 m

    b) High/Low Temperature: (Max.) (+)43C/(Min.) (-)14C

    c) Relative Humidity: 85% (Maximum)

    d) Atmospheric Condition: Dusty, Humid and Saliferous

    3. STANDARDS AND CODES3.1. Motors shall be designed, constructed and tested in accordance with the

    pertinent sections of the latest editions of the standards and codes, as noted

    below, or elsewhere in this specification.

    3.2. Motors shall generally comply with the requirements of Iranian PetroleumStandards (IPS) & International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)

    Standards, with particular reference to the applicable sections of the following

    standards:

    3.3. Where reference is made to any standard and codes other than IEC, it isunderstood that the equivalent IEC standard is also acceptable.

    4. RESPONSIBILITIES4.1. When motors are furnished with the driven equipment as a package, the torque

    characteristics and speeds are the responsibility of the vendor.

    4.2. For motor sizing, reference shall be made to the specification of the respectivedriven equipment.

    4.3. When motors are directly ordered by the purchaser, the torque characteristicsand speeds will be supplied with the request for quotation and/or purchase

    order.

    5. DOCUMENT PRIORITYIn the event of any conflict(s) between this specification, data sheet, drawings, codes

    and standards, the priority will be given in the following order:

    a) Purchase Orderb) Data Sheets and/or Drawingsc) This Specificationd) Codes and Standards.In any case the vendor shall inform purchaser and obtain clarification before

    6. DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION6.1. Voltage and Output Rating

    If not specified otherwise, the following Low Voltage (LV) & Medium

    Fractional horsepower motors for critical services (compressor auxiliaries,

    lube oil systems, special pumps, etc.,) shall be 400 Volts, 3 phase.

    6.2. Electrical System VariationsMotors shall be capable of operating continuously with full-load at rated

    torque under the ambient conditions stated in section 2.0, at any frequency

    between -5% and +2% of the nominal frequency together with a voltage

    variation of 5% of the nominal voltage.

    6.3. Starting Conditions & Duties6.3.1. All motors, unless otherwise specified, are for coupled service.6.3.2. Method of starting will be Direct-On-Line (DOL), unless otherwise

    specified.

    6.3.3. Unless otherwise indicated in Data Sheet(s) the duty of the motor shallbe duty type S1, continuous running duty, as defined in IEC 60034-1.

    6.3.4. At any voltage between 80% to 100% rated voltage, motors shall becapable of:

    a) Three (3) successive starts with the motor initially at maximumambient temperature.

    b) Two (2) successive starts with the motor at full load operatingtemperature.

    6.3.5. A further start shall be possible after a normal motor run out and a re-cooling period of max. 30 minutes. Number of starts shall be indicated

    on the motor rating plate.

    6.3.6. Motors shall be suitable for 1000 starts per year unless specifiedotherwise.

    6.3.7. The starting performance shall generally be design "N" as perIEC 60034-12 for motors up to 150 kW. For loads requiring high

    torque and for all loads above 150 kW motors of high starting torque

    equivalent to design "H" shall be utilized.

    6.3.8. Motors shall have sufficient starting torque and thermal capabilities toovercome the load inertia for starting and accelerating the connected

    load to rated speed at 20% reduced voltage, without injurious heating.

    6.3.9. The minimum accelerating torque shall be at least 30% more than thetorque required by the load, at starting and pull up stage, when theapplied voltage is 80% of the nominal voltage.

    6.3.10.The motor shall be capable of starting and accelerating the connectedload to rated speed at 80% of the nominal voltage.

    6.3.11.Starting Characteristica) Starting and acceleration of motors to the rated speed must be

    ensured with the starting load inertia and torque.

    b) The sizing of the motors versus the driven machines shall

    generally be as follows:

    For pumps according to API 610. For compressors according to API 617.

    c) To ensure successful acceleration, the motor torque speed curve

    shall be at least 10% of the rated motor torque higher than the

    loaded driven machine torque-speed-curve at all speeds, with

    the motor terminal voltage of 80% of the rated voltage, unless

    specified otherwise. All possible tolerances to be considered.

    6.3.12.Breakdown/Stalling TorqueThe breakdown/stalling torque shall be higher than 180% of rated

    torque at rated voltage. However, motor shall not stall during operation

    at full load and a transient system voltage drop to 80% of rated voltage

    and frequency variation as specified in data sheets.

    6.3.13.Stalling TimeLocked rotor withstand time (stall-time) at hot conditions and at anyvoltage between 80 and 100% of rated voltage shall exceed

    acceleration time of motor.

    6.4. Construction & Miscellaneous Requirements6.4.1. Motors with horizontal shaft shall not be used in vertical service (e.g.

    air-cooled heat exchangers). Where vertical motors of symbol

    "IM V*", as per IEC 60034-7, are specified, the following special

    precautions shall be taken to preclude water ingress through

    mechanical gaps, motor shaft, etc.

    a) Flinger ring shall be provided on the motor shaft directly

    above the motor housing. The flinger ring shall be installed

    with adequate fit to divert water away from the shaft and

    bearing enclosure.

    b) Grease nipple or bearing cover fixing bolts etc., shall not be

    located where there is any possibility of water accumulation.

    6.4.2. Generally, the start/stop control stations for motors will be a separateitem supplied by others, and located near or within the sight of the

    motor.

    7. ENCLOSURES7.1. Electric motors, supplied in accordance with this specification, shall meet the

    requirements of the area classification, and enclosure ingress protection, as

    defined in the relevant Data Sheet and in compliance with the applicable

    sections of the latest edition of the pertinent standards and codes. The motor

    enclosure and fan cover material shall be cast or nodular iron, cast steel or

    steel plates with proper protective coatings. Any special requirements will be

    indicated on the motor Data Sheet.

    7.2. Motor for Hazardous Areasa) Motors to be used in Zone 0 & 1 (Class 1, Div.1) areas, indoors,

    shall be flameproof type (Exd-IIB-T3) according to IEC 60079-1

    with IP 55 Protection, per IEC 60034-5. For outdoors use, they shall

    have additional degree of protection to IP 55W.

    b) Motors to be used in Zone 2 (Class 1, Div.2) areas, indoors, shall be

    Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC), IP 55 as per IEC 60034-5 and

    shall meet the requirements of increased safety (Exe-IIB-T3) or nonsparking (Exn-IIB-T3) in accordance with IEC recommendation

    60079-7 or equivalent national standards. For outdoors use they shall

    be additionally weatherproof equivalent to IP 55W per IEC 60034-5.

    The increased safety motors shall be suitable for the appropriate gas

    groups in Zone 2 (Division 2) areas and hence shall cope with the

    limiting temperature groups T1 through T6 as defined in

    IEC 60079-7, and specified in the relevant Data Sheets.

    c) All single phase motors shall be flameproof (Exd) throughout

    process, utility and tankage areas.

    7.3. Motors for Non-Hazardous Areasa) Motors to be used in non-hazardous areas, indoors, shall be TEFC

    with degree of protection IP 55 according to IEC 60034-5. For

    outdoor use they shall be additionally weatherproof equivalent to

    IP 55W.

    b) All single phase motors outside, process, utility and tank farm areas

    shall be standard industrial type with IP 55 degree of protection in

    accordance with IEC 60034-5.

    7.4. Motors specified as weatherproof shall require an additional protection.Special attention shall be paid to joint gasketing and the provision of shaft

    water throwers.

    7.5. Medium Voltage motors should be provided with space heaters.7.6. On flameproof motors, means shall be provided for withdrawing end plates

    and cartridge housing (where fitted) in a manner, which will avoid damage to

    flameproof flanges.

    7.7. The type of motor enclosures shall be marked on the motor nameplateaccording to IEC, and for motors installed in Zone 2 (Division 2) area this

    statement shall be clearly shown: "Suitable for Zone 2 (Division 2) use".

    7.8. The manufacturer shall submit certificates issued by recognized certifyingauthorities for motors, which have, flameproof (Exd), increased safety (Exe)

    or non sparking (Exn) enclosures.

    7.9. The main dimensions and type of construction of motors shall be inaccordance with the IEC 60034.

    7.10. Terminal boxes of all motors for outdoor installation should have ingressprotection degree IP 55W.

    8. INSULATION SYSTEMS8.1. All motors shall be designed to operate under unusual ambient conditions of

    high temperature, high humidity, with fungus, and salt-laden, corrosive

    atmosphere.

    8.2. Windings shall be adequately braced to prevent any relative movement underoperating conditions, and, in particular the stator windings of direct-on-line

    starting squirrel cage motors shall be strongly braced to withstand start-up

    shocks.

    8.3. Random wound drip-proof motors shall have a sealed insulation systemconsisting of a complete encapsulation in an epoxy resin of the vacuum

    impregnated, molded or cast type.

    8.4. Form wound motors shall have a sealed insulation system consisting of acomplete encapsulation in an epoxy resin mica compound impervious to

    moisture.

    8.5. Vacuum impregnated windings shall be free of voids.8.6. Insulation materials shall be class F as defined in IEC 60034-18. The rating of

    motor shall be based on class B temperature rise for all parts of the motor.

    8.7. Stator windings shall be fully insulated for an ungrounded system.8.8. Adequate insulation shall be provided between coils of different phase, which

    are in adjacent positions.

    8.9. The winding insulation shall be suitable for restarting of the motorimmediately after power interruption, caused by residual voltage at 40% of the

    nominal voltage. The restarting operation should be possible with systemvoltage at 80% of the rated voltage.

    8.10. Motors shall be suitably treated to withstand the service conditions specifiedin section 2 and the pertinent Data Sheet. Where special service conditions are

    specified, the motors shall, in addition, be impregnated and finished to

    withstand these conditions.

    9. ROTOR (SQUIRREL CAGE)9.1. Rotor Cage Built from Conductors Brazed to End Rings

    Adequate means should be provided to eliminate the risk of sparking duringstarting and running. Particular attention must be paid to the following points.

    a) The rotor cage for LV Electric motor shall be made of cooper or

    pressure die cast aluminum as per IPS-M-EL-131 Rev. 1, Item 6.5.3.

    b) The rotor cage for MV Electric motor shall be made of copper and the

    rings end rings shall be brazed or welded as per IPS-M-EL-132

    Rev. 1, Item 6.7.3..

    c) The conductors throughout the length of the rotor core shall be

    mechanically tight with respect to adjacent stampings.

    d) The joints between conductors and short circuiting rings shall be

    brazed or welded and compatible materials shall be used to enable

    quality joints to be made.

    e) The whole rotor construction shall be such as to avoid fracture of

    conductors, joints or short circuiting rings throughout the life of the

    motor.

    f) Where the type of construction employs impregnating varnish to

    provide the necessary degree of tightness, the manufacturer must

    ensure that full penetration of the varnish has been achieved and that

    the grade of varnish is suitable for the design temperature and

    operating conditions.

    g) The manufacturer shall, upon request by the purchaser, demonstrate

    what positive means have been adopted to meet the above

    requirements.

    9.2. Cast Rotor CageThe soundness of cast rotor cages shall be established by test. The method of

    test being subject to agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser.

    Generally, only smaller rotors shall be of die-cast type.

    9.3. Rotor shall be dynamically balanced (a) with half depth keys or (b) with themotor half-coupling keyed on the shaft.

    9.4. The rotor design shall allow for the addition of balancing weights, which shallnot be of lead or similar unstable material.

    9.5. The shaft ends shall be provided with a suitably threaded hole or holes tofacilitate the putting on of couplings, etc.

    10. STATOR WINDINGS10.1. All insulated windings shall be non-hygroscopic, oil resistant and the materials

    shall be resistant to flame propagation. Insulation shall comply with the

    requirements of IEC 60085.

    10.2. The ground insulation of the slot portion of the 6.0 kV coil shall be of thebounded mica type or equivalent. Internal insulation shall be such that on

    sample coils a high voltage test carried out between adjacent turns for one

    minute will withstand 3.0 kV on 6.0 kV windings. Random windings are not

    acceptable at medium voltage.

    10.3. The windings, particularly in case of medium voltage motor shall be of form-wound copper and shall withstand an external three phase bolted fault at full-

    load and 110% of rated voltage.

    10.4. Low voltage motors rated below 75 kW may have random wound coils.11. AIR GAP

    Taking into consideration all causes of eccentric positioning of the rotor in the stator

    bore (bearing clearance, clearances between bearing bracket spigots, deflection of

    shaft due to rotor weight and loading external to the shaft), and the deflection of the

    shaft due to the unbalanced magnetic pull resulting from this eccentricity, allowing

    for the permissible reduction of the nominal gap to 90% of the calculated value, the

    final minimum radial air gap for ball and for roller bearing motors shall be not less

    than 0.2 mm and for sleeve bearings not less than 0.3 mm. The manufacturer shall

    upon request by the purchaser, make available calculations establishing these limits.

    12. COOLING METHOD12.1. The low voltage motors shall be totally enclosed fan cooled designated by

    characteristic numerals IC 4A1A1 (or simplified IC411) as defined inIEC 60034-6 second edition. Internal and external cooling fans shall be

    12.2. For small motors where the temperature rise is within the acceptable value, thecooling type IC4A1A0 (or simplified IC410) is acceptable.

    12.3. The medium voltage motors up to and including 1000 kW shall be totallyenclosed fan cooled designated by characteristic numerals IC 4A1A1 (or

    simplified IC411) as defined in IEC 60034-6 second edition. Internal and

    external cooling fans shall be provided.

    12.4. The cooling method for motors above 1000 kW can be selected as IC 411,IC 511 or IC 611 as defined in IEC 60034-6 second edition, and shall beapproved by company representative prior to manufacturing. Other cooling

    methods can be adopted based on prior agreement with company

    representative.

    13. FANS13.1. Fans shall be inherently balanced and shall be located so that it is impossible

    to assemble them incorrectly. They shall force the cooling air in the direction

    of the driving end and preferably be suitable for rotation in either direction.

    13.2. In the case of motors supplied with unidirectional fans it is essential that themanufacturers state this fact in their tender. In such cases the direction of

    rotation for which the motor is arranged shall be clearly indicated by means of

    a permanent arrow on the non-driving end, preferably on the stator body and

    not on a removable end shield. A painted arrow only is not acceptable.

    13.3. Fans for motors shall be made of Brass, Bronze or Aluminum material.Aluminum Alloy Fans shall not contain more than 0.2% copper. Fans shall be

    balanced before assembly on shaft.

    13.4. Plastic, fiberglass or other non-metallic fans are acceptable as per as perIEC 60034-5 and shall meet the requirements of increased safety (Exe) or non

    sparking (Exn) in accordance with IEC recommendation 60079-7 or

    equivalent national standards..

    13.5. Fans for low voltage motors shall be bi-directional.13.6. Fan clearance shall not be less than 6 mm radial and 4 mm axial. Radial

    clearance between the fans and adjacent stationary material may be reduced to

    3 mm in those cases where both adjacent surfaces are machined.

    13.7.

    Fan cover (cowl) material shall be cast or nodular iron, cast steel or steel plate,adequately protected with coatings of anti-corrosion and finish paints.

    14. BALANCING, VIBRATION AND NOISE LEVEL14.1. Motors shall be dynamically balanced. The use of solder or similar deposits

    for balancing is not acceptable. Parent metal removal to achieve balance shall

    be carried out in such a way as not to affect the structural strength of the

    rotating element.

    14.2. Vibrations shall be measured on the bearings along the three axis, and shallnot exceed the limits specified in IEC 60034-14.

    14.3. Noise level shall be in accordance with the requirements stated in Data Sheet;but, in the event of no requirement made, the noise level shall not exceed

    85 dB(a).

    14.4. For motors rated 1500 kW and above vibration monitoring system shall beprovided together with non-contacting vibration probes at each bearing of the

    motor in accordance with API 670.

    15. BEARINGS AND LUBE OIL SYSTEM15.1. General

    15.1.1.Bearings shall be of the anti-friction, sleeve or thrust type as requiredand approved for the application. They shall be in metric sizes with

    maximum interchangeability and shall comply with ISO

    recommendations.

    15.1.2.Roller bearings should have machined yellow metal cages. Ballbearings may be supplied with pressed steel cages. Special attention

    shall be paid to ensure that the dismantling of bearings shall be simple

    and free from risk of damage.

    15.1.3.Grease lubricated integral horsepower motors shall have bearinghousings supplied with threaded fill and drain openings. Openings

    shall be plugged. Grease type bearing housing shall be equipped with

    fittings so that old grease will be forced out of the bearing as new

    grease is added. Grease nipples or plugs shall be provided.

    15.1.4.Pre-lubricated ball bearings are acceptable, provided that the servicelife is guaranteed to be not less than 40,000 working hours without

    regreasing.

    15.1.5.Grease lubricated ball bearings shall be supplied with inside end capsto prevent grease from migrating into the motor.

    15.1.6.Oil lubricated bearings shall be provided with oil lubricators withconstant level reservoir(s), or a gear driven oil pump (fitted with device

    indicating oil flow) if such is preferred by the manufacturers. Oil

    throwers or seals of suitable design shall be provided to prevent the

    escape of oil from the bearing housing.

    15.2. Ball & Roller BearingsThe calculated life for ball and roller bearings ("90% survival" under the

    estimated bearing loads) should comply with the following requirements.

    Up to 75 kW 15,000 hrs

    75 kW to 250 kW 25,000 hrs

    250 kW and over 50,000 hrs

    15.3. Sleeve BearingsMotors with sleeve bearings shall have provision for testing the air gap at each

    end of the motor, and in case of flameproof motors the gland gap at each end

    of the motor shaft.

    15.3.1.Oil lubricated bearings shall have reservoirs of generous capacityeffectively covered so no dust or other foreign materials can enter the

    bearing. Oil slingers and catchers shall be designed to prevent the

    escape of oil from the bearing and creepage along the shaft. Reservoirs

    shall be provided with drains, tapped fill openings and separate level

    gauge glasses. A permanent indication of proper oil level shall be

    provided. For sleeve bearings the end floats shall be within the limits

    specified in the latest edition of NEMA MG-1-20.81.

    15.3.2.Sleeve bearings shall normally be fitted with oil rings, discs or othersuitable means of lubrication. Alternatively, lubrication may be

    provided directly by a gear driven pump. In all cases a transparent oil

    indicator or a device indicating oil flow shall be fitted.

    15.3.3.100 mm Dial type temperature indicator should be provided to indicatebearing oil temperature on each bearing, at a visible level, with

    mechanical protection at motor frame opposite cable connection box.

    15.3.4.The design of thrust bearings for vertical motors shall be submitted forpurchasers approval. Vertical motors shall have thrust bearings

    suitable for thrust load imposed by the driven equipment. Bearingsshall be rated for a minimum 1 year (5 years average) life, according to

    ISO 281.

    15.3.5.Motors shall be equipped with suitable seals to prevent moisture fromentering through the shaft opening.

    15.4. Forced Feed Lubrication MotorsForced feed lubrication systems shall be provided on motors only when it is

    the motor Vendors recommendation and standard practice. When a forced

    feed lubrication system is furnished, complete information and details shall be

    furnished with the quotation. Oil pressure lubrication system for bearings shall

    conform with the following minimum requirements:

    15.4.1.The main lube oil pump may be driven from the motor shaft. Auxiliarylube oil pump and electric motor shall be interlocked to assure

    adequate oil pressure to the motor bearings for start up, coastdown or

    emergency.

    15.4.2.Lube oil systems shall be arranged with dual oil filters, switch overvalves and oil pressure gauges to indicate pressure differential across

    the filter.

    15.4.3.Oil filters shall be replaceable while motor is in service.15.4.4.A pressure switch shall be installed in the lube oil pump discharge for

    alarm and control functions. Contacts shall be separate for each

    function.

    15.4.5.If bearings are insulated, the motor vendor shall furnish insulatingfittings in the oil supply connections to prevent the oil supply lines

    from bypassing the bearing insulation.

    15.5. Non-Forced Feed Lubrication MotorsThe bearing housing of motors with non-forced feed oil lubrication shall have

    oil reservoirs of sufficient depth to serve as settling chambers. Housings, shall

    each be fitted with an adjustable constant level, and with sight feed oiler or a

    sight gauge, mounted on the housing and marked with the proper oil level. The

    oil system shall meet the following requirements:

    a) The oiler bottle shall be of plastic or pyrex glass. Plastic bottles shall be of a

    plastic inhibited against sunlight attack.

    b) The oil system shall have sufficient surge capacity to absorb withoutoverflowing oil from the bearing, when motor is stopped.

    c) Bearing housing shall be provided with fill and drain openings accessible

    from outside the motor enclosure, necessary slingers, equalizers, vents, or

    other devices to prevent loss of lubricant.

    15.6. LubricantsLubricants which will be used on site will be the subject of agreement between

    the manufacturer and the purchaser, and grease lubricated bearings shall be

    packed with the agreed lubricant before the motor is dispatched.

    Suitable monitoring devices such as a pressure switch in the lube oil pump

    discharge, if any, shall be provided to initiate an alarm in case of malfunction

    of the lube oil system.

    Dial type temperature indicator shall be provided for each sleeve bearing to

    indicate the bearing oil temperature.

    15.7. End Thrusta) Where motors are supplied without thrust or location bearing, it is essential

    that motor manufacturers shall state this fact in their tender and on theirdrawings and indicate also the permissible amount of end float in order that

    a suitable coupling may be supplied to keep the float within the specified

    limits. End float shall be per NEMA MG1-72 or equivalent. Vertical motors

    shall include suitable bearings to withstand the thrust of motor rotor. Where

    the motor is to be subjected, to external thrusts, in addition, e.g. from the

    driven machine, then full particulars of these external forces shall be

    supplied by the purchaser.

    b) The design of thrust bearing for vertical motors shall be submitted for

    purchasers approval.

    16. ANTI-CONDENSATION REQUIREMENTS16.1. All totally enclosed motors should be provided with adequate protections to

    prevent the accumulation of moisture inside the motor enclosure.

    16.2. All medium voltage motors shall be equipped with completely wired anti-condensation space heaters.

    16.3. Space heater voltages will be as follows:a) 3000 Watts or less 230 Volts, single phase

    b) Over 3000 Watts 400 Volts, three phase

    16.4. The maximum sheath temperature of anti-condensation space heaters shall notexceed 200C, and it shall be less than the maximum temperature of the

    respective temperature class as specified in the Data Sheet of the relevant

    motor.

    16.5. Space heater leads shall be brought out to a junction box separate from themain power terminal box or the junction boxes of other auxiliary devices.

    17. RESISTANCE TEMPERATURE DETECTORS17.1. Motors 150 kW and larger shall have at least six (2 per phase,

    1 for Alarm+1 for Trip), 100 ohm at 20C platinum, Positive Temperature

    Coefficient (PTC) or Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD) in the stator

    windings.

    17.2. PTC or RTDs shall be wired to a junction box separate from main terminalbox and space heater or other auxiliary equipment junction boxes.

    17.3. The temperature detectors shall be spring-loaded, tip-sensitive, 3 wire elementplatinum PTC/RTDs.

    17.4. Bearings of motors rated 1000 kW and above, and also the thrust bearings ofall MV and HV vertical motors shall be equipped with Resistance

    Temperature Detectors (RTD). The numbers of RTDs for such purpose shall

    be agreed by Owner Representative.

    18. MOTOR DIFFERENTIAL PROTECTIONMotors above 1000 kW shall have three 50/1 ratio window type current transformers,

    supplied and mounted in the main power terminal box, for differential protection of

    the motor windings. Motor leads T1 and T4 shall pass through one CT, leads T2 and

    T5 through the second CT, and T3 and T6 through the third CT. Lead ends, T4, T5

    and T6 are then connected together for the "WYE" point. Each CTs secondary

    terminal shall be brought to terminal strip located in the main power leads terminal

    box. The differential relay will be at the motor control center.

    19. SURGE PROTECTION19.1. Starters for motors rated 150 kW to 1000 kW shall be equipped with vacuum

    contactors.

    19.2.

    Motors rated above 1000 kW shall have starters equipped with vacuum typecircuit breakers.

    19.3. Appropriate surge protection devices, such as suitable capacitors connectedfrom line to earth at machine terminals shall be provided for all medium

    voltage motors with high outputs. However, these motors shall be suitable for

    operation to withstand lightning and other surges without any surge protection.

    20. TERMINAL BOXES AND MOTOR ACCESSORIES20.1. All motors shall be supplied and equipped with terminal boxes for lead

    connections & cable terminations. The main power terminal box shall be

    positioned on the right hand side, when facing the driving end. For motorsfitted with compound-filled cable terminations, the sealing box shall be

    positioned to accommodate cables which rise from the floor.

    20.2. Terminal boxes, including removable covers, should be made of steel platesfor motors rated over 150 kW and shall be cast iron for less than 150 kW.

    They shall be totally enclosed, and all joints shall be fitted with gaskets of

    polychloroprene or equivalent material to prevent the ingress of moisture and

    dust.

    20.3. The minimum degree of ingress protection of terminal boxes shall be asfollows:

    a)IP 55: for Indoors

    b) IP 55W: for Outdoors

    20.4. The short circuit capability for terminal boxes shall be as per BS 4999.20.5. Ample space shall be provided for cabling and changing connections but the

    design must be such that it is impossible for small parts to be dropped into the

    interior of the motor.

    20.6. Terminal Box Assemblies20.6.1.When connected to an electrical system having a nominal short circuit

    kA capacity as specified by the Purchaser, terminal box assemblies

    shall withstand the effects of:

    a) Through faults

    (b) Internal faults in uncompounded compartments, without

    disintegration of the outer enclosure and without emission of flame

    which could be injurious to personnel in the vicinity of the motor.

    20.6.2.Terminal boxes for space heaters, temperature detectors and othersauxiliaries shall be equipped with terminal boards. These boxes shall

    be rotatable to four fixing positions in 90 degree turns, and shall

    generally be located on the opposite side of the main power terminal

    box.

    20.6.3.The differential protection current transformers and their terminalboards & cable termination should be located in the main terminal box.

    20.7. Terminals20.7.1.All terminals shall be substantially designed. Line terminals shall be

    thoroughly insulated from the frames with material resistant to

    tracking.

    20.7.2.Natural rubber insulation shall not be used for terminal leads.20.7.3.Means shall be provided to prevent accidental reduction of clearances

    at terminals.

    20.7.4.Terminal identifications shall be in clear and permanent markings.20.7.5.A grounding terminal with the same capacity as the line terminals shall

    be provided, external to the terminal box, unless otherwise stated.

    20.7.6.Motors which are only uni-directional shall have the direction ofrotation clearly indicated on the motor frame, together with the phase

    sequence of terminal connections associated with the rotation.

    20.7.7.Studs shall be designed & fixed, so as to prevent their turning whennuts are tightened.

    20.7.8.Adequate means shall be provided to prevent slackening of terminalconnections due to vibrations. Connections having pinch screws

    bearing directly on the cable will not be acceptable.

    20.8. Cable Entries20.8.1.Each terminal box shall have cable entry(ies) with threads of ISO form

    according to IEC 60423. The number and size of hub on each terminal

    box will be indicated on Motor Data Sheet.

    20.8.2.For all forms of cable connection it must be possible to remove themotor without breaking or stressing the seal or the cable.

    20.8.3.Where PVC or rubber insulated and sheathed multi-core cable isspecified a compression gland of acceptable design should be

    provided.

    20.8.4.Cable glands, suitable for lead covered and armored cable shall be ofthe "stuffing" or similar type to avoid sweated or wiped joints, unless

    otherwise specified.

    terminal box.

    20.8.8.Motor manufacturer shall provide pertinent cable sealing boxes and/orglands within the scope of supply of each motor. The sealing box

    and/or gland shall be suitable for type and size of cable/entry specifiedin the respective Data Sheet.

    20.8.9.400 Volt motors should have cast iron end shields, cast iron cable box,cast iron or rust proof steel plate fan cover, gaskets between cable box

    cover and boxes, neoprene gaskets and lead seal between cables boxes

    and motor frame. The rotating shaft seals shall be impervious to liquids

    and chemicals.

    20.8.10.Where heater or other auxiliary connections are specified, they should

    be brought out to a terminal box which is separate from the main

    terminal box.

    20.9. Where cable sealing and dividing boxes are required, then clearance andcreepage distances shall comply with the relevant IEC specification. Main

    terminal box on 11 kV and 6 kV motors shall be made of steel. The

    construction of all joints shall be such as to prevent the ingress of moisture and

    dust.

    20.10. Heater and its terminal box should satisfy the requirements of division 1 forboth division 1 and 2 areas. Hazardous classification certificate number should

    be stamped on the nameplate.

    20.11. Where conduit entry is employed, a detachable plate incorporating the conduitentry shall be provided. Use of conduit is subject to the purchasers approval.

    20.12. Where armored cable entry associated with a sealing box is employed, thelatter shall be of a detachable type.

    20.13. Corrosion resistant screens or louvers shall be provided on high voltagemotors.

    21. SURFACE COATING & PAINT21.1. Prepared surfaces shall be free from rust, scale, sand, dust, and grease before

    painting.

    21.2. Finish shall be manufacturers standard type for tropical use, and inaccordance Manufacture Standard on painting. For corrosive environments or

    areas subject to chemical spillage, painting shall be suitable for such

    applications.

    22. TEST AND INSPECTION22.1. General

    The performance test given below shall be undertaken on the completed

    machine. The tests shall, as far as applicable, be carried out in accordance with

    IEC-60034, unless otherwise specified.

    22.2. Abbreviated Tests1) Measurement of winding resistance (cold).

    2) Measurement of no load losses and current.

    3) Measurement to allow calculation of locked rotor current.

    4) High voltage test plus insulation resistance test.

    5) Inspection (at no load) of bearings and mechanical operation of the

    motor.

    6) Vibration check.

    7) High voltage and insulation tests on built in temperature detectors.

    8) Direction of rotation and phase sequence checks.

    For motors rated above 1000 V:

    9) Determination of Polarization Index.

    The polarization index is the ratio of the insulation resistance of a

    machine winding measured at 1 min. after voltage has been applied

    divided into the measurement after 10 min.

    22.3. Complete Tests1) Measurement of winding resistance (hot and cold).

    2) Measurement of no load losses and current.

    3) Measurement to allow calculation of locked rotor current.

    4) High voltage test after heat run and insulation resistance before and

    after heat run.

    5) Inspection (at full load) of bearings and mechanical operation of the

    8) Measurement to allow calculation of pull out torque.

    9) Measurement to allow calculation of starting torque characteristic.

    10) Momentary overload.11) Measurement to allow calculation of efficiency at full load, three-

    12) Measurement to allow calculation of power factor at full load, three-

    quarters, and half load.

    13) Measurement of vibration.

    14) Measurement of noise.

    15) High voltage and continuity tests on built in temperature detectors with

    tests to demonstrate satisfactory operation and compliance with stated

    characteristics.

    16) Direction of rotation and phase sequence tests.

    17) Unless otherwise agreed, for machines above 1000 V, determination of

    the polarization Index.

    22.4. For motors up to and including 150 kW complete tests will not normally berequired if evidence of type tests on identical machines is produced at the time

    of tender. Abbreviated test shall be made on every motor and certified test

    reports shall be provided.

    22.5. For motors above 150 kW complete tests shall be made on at least one motor,out of a group of identical motors being supplied and these tests will be

    witnessed at the discretion of the Purchasers Inspector. Abbreviated tests

    shall be made on the remaining motors of each group, and certified reports of

    all tests performed shall be provided.

    22.6. All testing that requires voltage on the motor shall be carried out using fullmotor voltage.

    22.7. For flameproof and (Exe) machines a prototype box with sealing chambershall be tested under fault conditions to demonstrate that the box contains the

    explosion without emission of flame, and a test report shall be provided. Phase

    separated or phase segregated boxes shall be tested under internal single phase

    to ground fault conditions to demonstrate that they do not emit flame and that

    a fault is not propagated involving either of the other two phases. Phase

    insulated boxes shall be tested under conditions of internal 3 phase fault to

    demonstrate that they do not emit flame.

    22.8. Certificates of type tests shall be considered as evidence of the compliance ofterminal box assemblies with the requirements of the relevant clauses of this

    specification, and the manufacturer shall hold available such certificates,

    together with detailed drawings of the terminal box assemblies and a record of

    any alterations that have been made in them subsequent to the type tests.

    22.9. Purchaser and/or his appointed inspectors reserve the right for inspections atany stage of equipment manufacture, testing or preparation for shipment.

    22.10. Manufacturer shall notify Purchaser to witness test at least 10 days before thedate of test performance.

    22.11. Inspection by Purchaser shall in no way release the Vendor from guaranteeson the workmanship, materials and performance of the equipment supplied.

    23. NAMEPLATE23.1. Nameplates shall be of stainless steel, monel, brass or bronze. They shall be

    fixed to a non-removable part of the frame with the same material, and shall

    be according to manufacturers standard.

    23.2. Minimum information on the nameplate shall be according to IEC 60034-1.23.3. When special features are embodied, a plate showing appropriate instruction

    shall be affixed to each motor.

    23.4. For space heater terminal boxes on motors a sign shall be included that states"Caution-Space Heater fed from alternative supply".

    23.5. Type of oil and instruction for sight oiler adjustment should be indicated on aseparate data plate. Oil specified shall be B.P., EXXON or SHELL.

    23.6. Labels for direction of rotation shall be mounted on both ends of the motorframe.

    24. INFORMATION TO BE SUPPLIED AT TIME OF QUOTATIONInformation to be supplied by the manufacturer with tender for electric motors shall

    be as follows and as required in the Data Sheet of the relevant motor:

    1) Rated power (kW)

    a) Maximum continuous rating.

    b) Short-time rating.

    2) Nominal line-line voltage.

    3) Nominal frequency.

    25. SPARE PARTS25.1. Spare parts shall be interchangeable, as far as practical, between different

    motors and suitable for use in place of the original parts and comply with the

    same specification and tests.

    25.2. Spare parts shall be marked and numbered for easy identification, andpreserved against damage and deterioration during transport and/or storage in

    a damp or humid, tropical atmosphere.

    25.3. Adequate commissioning spare parts shall be supplied with each motor.25.4. Recommended lists shall be submitted at the quotation stage for the following

    spare parts: a) Commissioning spare parts

    b) 2-years operation spares (for separate and later purchase)

    26. DRAWINGS & TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS26.1. Vendor shall submit the required drawings and technical documents in

    compliance with the Requirement for Documents (RD) for Motors. These

    drawings shall be forwarded at the bid stage and at indicated periods after the

    Purchase Order, as shown in the relevant RD.

    26.2. Motor Data Sheet shall be completed by the Vendor and submitted with thetechnical proposal at the bid stage.

    27. PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT27.1. Electric motors shall be supplied with bearings lubricated.27.2. Silica gel or similar dehydrating compound shall be enclosed in each motor

    package. Vents shall be waterproof sealed.

    27.3. Preparation for shipment shall be in accordance with Manufacturersstandards, unless otherwise noted on the request for quotation and/or purchase

    order. The Manufacturer shall be solely responsible for the adequacy of the

    preparation and packaging for the required methods of shipment.

    27.4. Rotors shall be locked to protect against damage during shipment.27.5. Instruction shall be provided for lifting large motors and removal of protective

    & safety features used for shipment.

    28. GUARANTEE28.1. The Vendor guarantees that the motors supplied are free from fault in design,

    workmanship and materials are properly sized and suitable for operation under

    the specified service conditions.

    28.2. The supplier shall repair and/or replace free of charge any damaged equipmentresulting from poor workmanship, material and faulty design. The replacement

    of defective equipment, free of charge, shall be the responsibility of the

    Vendor for the following cases:

    a) Failure of the equipment under pre-commissioning and/or commissioningtests.

    b)

    Equipment failure under normal operation in the specified service, upto12months after installation or 24 months after shipment, whichever occurs

    earlier.
