strip in which the cord is designed to visualize the energy ratherthan hiding it.

‘Free Energy’ consists of conceptual design examples basedon experimental user methods to expose alternativeexpressions and choices with respect to energy use ineveryday life.

Two prototypes – the ‘Energy Tap’ and ‘Kinetic Door’ havebeen developed to explore relations of design to energyperceptions and changing behaviors. The ‘Energy Tap’ is a self-sustaining energy outlet for openuse it may be inserted into any space, and cranked to

generate energy to power an electric or electronicappliance to facilitate any sort of activity.

The ‘Kinetic Door’ intervenes into a common energy choicein Sweden, augmenting existing revolving doors in order toreward door-pushers for making an extra energy-friendly

effort.

Michelin first announced the Tweel in2005. The name is a combination of thewords tire and wheel because the Tweeldoesn’t use a traditional wheel hubassembly.

A solid inner hub mounts to the axle.That’s surrounded by polyurethanespokes arrayed in a pattern of wedges. Ashear band is stretched across the spokes,forming the outer edge of the tire (the

part that comes in contact with the road).

The tension of the shear band on thespokes and the strength of the spokesthemselves replace the air pressure of a

traditional tire. The tread is then attachedto the shear band.
