THE GREAT HYMN TO LOVE

It is doubtful that Saint Paul, when he sat down to write what we now know as the thirteenth chapter of First Co-rinthians, knew that he was penning what was to be-come one of the keystones of Christian ethics. In this

brief passage, he set down ideals about love that have held fast through the centu-ries. Sometimes we may think that because these are ideals to which we as-pire, we are excused from them in our daily living.

But what Paul was writing was a letter to his friends, providing them with some

sound advice about what it meant—and still means—to live in love, day by day, as a follower of Christ. We find in his words to his friends a broadening of the great commands of Jesus to love God and neighbor. Today we hear what this love must look like in our own actions, and how it ought to guide our relationships with others. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Cabe dudar que, cuando san Pablo se sentó a escribir lo que ahora conocemos como el capítulo trece de la primera carta a los corintios, supiera que lo que estaba escribiendo se conver-tiría en una clave principal de la ética cristiana. En este breve

Deficit Reduction Collection 7 February

At the end of November, we were $16,720 in deficit spending since 1 July representing an average of $3,000 per month less income than our expenses which are paid from our Sunday collections. Thanks to the Deficit Fund Collection on 3 January (for a total of $12,192 of which $10,000 was a special gift) we were able to reduce the deficit for the year to date at the beginning of January to $4,528.

In this month of January (as of 25 January), we are showing a deficit of $1,870, which when added to the previous $4,528 brings us to $6,398. Your added contribution to the support of the parish with next week’s Deficit Fund Collection will be greatly appreciated.

Our Corporal Work of Mercy for February Shelter the homeless

This month, let us show God’s mercy to homeless

students by collaborating with Youth on Their Own. In support of homeless teens, this organization has a “Mini Mall” stocked by donations from members of the Tucson community.

They are always in need of regular size personal care products:

Feminine hygiene products Deodorant Razors Shaving cream Body wash/soap Shampoo and con-ditioner Toilet Paper; as well as new undergarments (sizes to fit 13–21 year olds): Ladies underwear Men’s boxers (no briefs, please) and t-shirts Socks (short/ankle, to wear with athletic shoes) Bras (all sizes and styles).

You may place these donated items in the basket at our Mercy Center in the back of church throughout the month of February.

January 31: NO Class – Catholic Schools Week

Children in Kindergarten (5 years old) – 8th grade meet on Sundays from 11:15 AM until 12:45 PM. Stu-dents in 7th, 8th or 9th grade who have not cele-brated First Reconciliation and/or First Eucharist also meet on Sundays at this time.

Preparation for sacraments of reconciliation and first communion is a two consecutive year process. The child must be in Second Grade or older. The child must be baptized and attend all catechetical sessions. The fam-ily must be registered at St. Cyril Parish.

Registration closes for this semester THIS SUNDAY. Registration forms can be picked up from the table in the vesti-bule of the church. If your child is not in a Catholic school, he/she should be in a Religious Education Program.

Enero 31: NO hay clases por la Semana de Escuelas Católicas

Los niños desde Kinder hasta 8° grado se reúnen los domin-gos de 11:15 am hasta las 12:45 pm. Los alumnos de 7°, 8° o 9° grados que aún no han celebrado su Primera Reconciliación y/o Primera Eucaristía, también se reúnen los domingos a la misma hora.

La formación para los sacramentos de reconciliación y primera communion es un proceso consecutive de dos años. El niño debe estar en Segundo Grado o en un Grado mayor.

El niño debe estar bautizado y debe asistir a todal las clases de cate-quesis. La familia debe estar registrada en la Parroquia.

ESTE DOMINGO se cierran las inscripciones para este se-mestre. Los formularios de inscripción se pueden encontrar en la mesa en el vestíbulo de la Iglesia. Si su hijo/a no está en una escuela católica, debe de asistir a un programa de Educación Religiosa.

Nuestra parroquia esta buscando contratar a una persona para supervisar las necesidades de limpieza y manteni-miento de nuestros edificios (Iglesia, oficinas parroquiales, edificio de actividades Dougherty, y en colaboracion con el departamento de mantenimiento de nuestra escuela, Nicholson Hall) asi como tambien los terrenos en general.

Los requerimientos para esta posición son: tener buena coordi-nación y adiestramiento manual; poder leer y comprender instruc-ciones para diferentes agentes de limpieza; tener iniciativa para trabajar independiente, ser organizado, poder dirigir y trabajar con miembros del personal de limpieza, realizar diferentes tareas simultáneamente, y poder trabajar con urgencia de ser necesario. Esta persona deberá pasar verificación de antecedentes y ser elegi-ble para trabajar en los Estados Unidos.

FACILITIES MANAGER / MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR

Our parish is currently looking to hire a full-time person to oversee the custodial and maintenance needs of our buildings (Church, Parish Office, Dougherty Activity Building, and in collaboration with the school’s mainte-nance staff, Nicholson Hall) and grounds.

Qualifications for this position are: having coordination and manual dexterity; normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift 45 lbs or as required in a normal maintenance environment; able to read and comprehend instructions for various cleaning agents; be a self-starter as this person works independently, be well organized, be able to direct and to work with custodial staff member, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and work with a sense of urgency when necessary. Person must be able to pass a background check and be eligible for employment in the U.S.

Catholic Schools Week is the week dur-ing the school year that ALL Catholic schools, nationwide, celebrate who we are and express our gratitude. The shar-ing of faith with our future leaders is so important today. Our world is wrought with so many things askew that the abil-ity to have one's children in a faith filled environment is such a blessing. During

Catholic Schools Week, St. Cyril School celebrates all our share-holders with special celebrations. The following is a list of our celebrations:

31 January… After the 10:00 AM Mass, we invite our parishion-ers to join us for coffee and donuts on the plaza. We will swing open our doors to our parishioners and commu-nity members from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Come by and feel the magic of YOUR parish school. Meet our fabulous faculty and staff. If you know anyone that might be interested in our school, please let invite them to come and experience the beauty of the school.

1 February… PJ’s and Pancakes Day. Students will be treated to a pancake breakfast and allowed to wear their PJ's on that day.

2 February… Grandparent Appreciation Day. Grandparents join their grandchildren for Mass at 8 AM. After Mass grandparents will enjoy a breakfast and then head to the grandchildren's classrooms for fun and frolic.

3 February… Parent Appreciation Day. Parents will join us for breakfast and then head to the child's classrooms to “be a stu-dent with their student.”

4 February… Act of Mercy Day. Each department will reach out to a specific cause in town and collect items to donate WHILE standing out by wearing a specific color shirt. The organizations that the departments are working with are: St. Vincent de Paul (canned goods and new/used clothing collected by Kindergarten and Primary); Pio Decimo Center (new/used books collected by Intermediate); Hero Dogs (loose change collected by Advanced Intermediate); and Kino Border Initiative (toiletries and/or clothing collected by Junior High).

5 February… Staff Appreciation Day! All faculty and staff will be treated to an afternoon of bowling and camaraderie.

02 de febrero... Día de Agradecimiento a los Abuelos. Los abuelos se unen a sus nietos para la misa a las 8 AM. Después de la misa los abuelos podrán disfrutar de un desayuno y luego pasar un tiempo divertido en los salones de sus nietos.

03 de febrero... Día de Agradecimiento a los Padres. Los padres se unirán a nosotros para el desayuno y luego irán a los salones de clase y "ser un estudiante con sus hijos."

04 de febrero... Día de Obras de Misericordia. Cada departamento se unirá a una causa específica en la ciudad y recogerán objetos para donar mientras visten camisas con colores específicos. Las organi-zaciones que los departamentos están apoyando son: San Vicente de Paúl (productos enlatados y ropa nueva/usada recogida por Kinder y Primaria); Pio Decimo Center (libros nuevos /usados recogidos por Intermedio); Perros Héroe (monedas y dinero suelto por Advanced Intermedio); y Iniciativa de la Frontera Kino (artículos de higiene personal/Ropa recogida por Junior High).

05 de febrero... Día de Apreciación al Personal! Todos los profesores y empleados podrán disfrutar de una tarde de bolos y camaradería.
